So I just paid $ 67 for two burgers that were cold and inedible. Patties that would have been substandard if you bought them from McDonalds! Accompanied by wine so cheap tasting it literally had a fruit fly buzzing around the rim of the glass. Horrific.

Consistently good quality food, I’ve never once had a bad meal here. However, serving one person at our table 15 minutes before anyone else was more than a little awkward; and closing the kitchen at 7.45pm just seems ridiculous when you’re located in an airport, of all places.

I’ve eaten that this place a few times, and the service and food quality are consistent. The service is friendly, but if it weren’t in the middle of Adelaide Airport it would be easy to compare the service to an average local pub. There are a few options on the menu. Taking into account that the food really is ‘pub food’ — it tastes good and presents well. With limited food options in the airport, this would be my go-to option.

I don’t have too many reasons to have a drink at the airport. Is it really that stressful? If anything, a drink whilst you’re in the air seems more appropriate, what with the screaming children, crying babies and idiots reclining their chairs so far back that the television screen is centimetres away from your face. Perhaps that’s why these bars are here — to drink yourself stupid before having to put up with any of the aforementioned annoyances. If you a require a pre-emptive hit of booze before boarding your flight, then 1862 Bar is a relatively classy way to do it. They have a large selection of beers, wines and spirits, and the bartenders are capable of concocting some lethal cocktails. The décor is simple yet attractive, and though there is a television within, it’s not quite necessary. If watching sports is what you’re after, then you’re better suited to the Alehouse next door. Prices are higher than what you’d expect to see at your local pub, but that’s not unusual for an airport business. The payoff of a boozy nap may be worth it once you’re on that plane and the chaos of noise ensues.

This is my favourite place in all of Adelaide Airport. Whether seeking refuge from the sadness of departures or wanting to immediately celebrate someone’s return, this is the best place to do it, pretty much any time of day. The bar itself isn’t huge or massively comfortable. It’s been designed more for passing drinks. Those who want their last sip of Coopers in South Australia or their first back home are the general patrons of this bar, but it’s that nostalgic element that make the Coopers Bar cool and special. It’s a matter of South Australian identity and pride to indulge in our infamous beer. I’m pretty pessimistic about airport businesses with their exploitative prices for a cup of coffee and sandwiches, but that pessimism dissolves here when the first drops of a frosty pale hit my lips.
