1 star for good naan bread but nothing else… I had the tandoor selection plate of which only the chicken was nice enough to eat… The lamb was really tough with an old flavour and the fish… Well I should’ve known not to order fish at an Indian restaurant. I think there was a beef sausage but can’t be sure, I took one bite and left it right alone with the lamb and fish. The fact that it has good Baan bread meant u didn’t go hungry but I’ve never been to an Indian restaurant and disliked Baan bread so I don’t think it’s much of an achievement. The actual venue is just so strange, it’s old — sometimes that shows evidence of former glory but this place looks like a shed done up into an eating hall with desk lamps clipped onto the ceiling… Maybe some will think it’s charming but I don’t. Im certainly not coming back(and by the few guests there on a Friday night, it seems the neighbourhood feels the same way)

This was the first place that I ever got to try Indian food at and it was amazing! Definitely get the cheese naan, but be prepared to want to go back for a second order — it’s that good! Decent amount of vegetarian options on the menu also and all very yummy. Portions aren’t massive, but are definitely more than enough. Don’t think I’ve ever managed to actually completely finish a dish(maybe because I’ve eaten so much cheese naan beforehand). Staff are friendly and willing to accommodate to dietary requests. Lunch specials are ridiculously good value. Only downside is sometimes it seems to be closed when it says online it should be open? Best to ring ahead and make sure. As others have said, the wait can be a bit long on the busier nights.

First and foremost cheese naan is ridiculously good. This may be the best cheese naan I have had. The range of dishes available is quite vast and very reasonably priced. It took quite a while for our meals to come out after we placed our order but they were happy for us to sit around long after we finished our meals. Everyone was able to find something they liked and we were all happy with our meals

Admittedly it’s been a few months since i visited Charminar and I am due for another visit(had the take-away menu out last night to whet my appetite!). I have been a few times and loved it. The food was really, delicious. I thought the portion sizes were spot on and it all was fresh and flavoursome. Love the mural outside — fun, vibrant and adds character. Love that I can walk there! And stumble home… So close to the beach that an after-meal walk along the beach is a great way to walk off any over-indulgences. Friendly and helpful staff, funky décor, good atmosphere. A great improvement from the Primo that was there before! Good luck Charminar — I hope you are there to stay!

Waited 1hour and 10mins for the meal, then the garlic naan was under cooked and doey, and did not taste of garlic, the saag gohst was brown and vinegary and the least worst was a bland chicken korma. Had heard good things but very very poor food and service.

Maybe I’m biased because I really like pink(and there is a lot of pink paint in this place) but Charminar ain’t too shabby! The number one best thing about this place(closely beating the beautiful décor) is the friendly nature of the staff — always cheerful and up for some fun banter, it’s the employees of this Indian restaurant that truly make the experience enjoyable. The food is always a hit here, with serving sizes not as huge as many other Indian eateries but that’s probably okay because you don’t leave with that horrible feeling of over eating — in fact it’s all pretty much just right! The only thing that causes Charminar at Henley Beach to miss out on a full five stars is the fact that on busy nights(Friday and Saturday) the food can take a decent amount of time to come out, which is the worst when your hungry belly is screaming for some yummy food!

Warning: you will be cruising along Henley Beach Road one day and this crazy sight will catch your eye: a bright pink brick wall with an enormous cow painted on it. You’ll crane your neck, pull the car over, and decide to go in and check out this cool new wine bar. You’ll look around this awesome new space, maybe order a wine, pick up a menu to read, and have your mind blown: ‘What, this is a Charminar Indian restaurant??‘ Yes indeed my friend, this is a Charminar, but not like the others. Instead of the usual design the owners have taken the site of the old Primo’s and transformed it into an industrial, modern, fantastic little restaurant, that looks nothing like a Charminar. The manager informed us they’ve been open for twelve days and they took a big risk with this venture: a hot pink feature wall with a cow on it? Yeah they did, and it paid off. The enormous lamp hanging in the centre, the distressed white tables and black seating, the menu built into a huge scroll on the wall and best of all, the cow, it’s a great! I am a huge fan of Charminar’s trademark cheese naan and butter chicken and now I get to eat it in this cool new space! Win.
