Have been to Hove tandoori previously and really liked it but this time we was massively let down by the extremely rude service. My husband wanted to go here for his birthday meal so we went last night in a group of 6 for a family meal. Things started out well as we we’re given free popadoms and sauces, we shared a bottle of prosecco which was nice and ordered our starters & mains. The starters we’re good, lamb samosas and chicken chat and king prawn butterfly. Things we’re all going well and we was having a nice time and then a waiter who we later found out is called Raj, was so rude we was actually close to just walking out before out mains. We was just ordering drinks with him and he was very aggressive and pointed his finger in my mother in laws face saying ‘you wait to speak’, we we’re all so shocked I said to him that I thought that was very rude and he just started shouting ‘I know my job!’ I said that we wanted someone else to serve us so he just walked off. Luckily the other waiter that came over was much nicer and we complained to him who got us the complaints book so that we could leave a note for the manager. He did take a bottle if wine off our bill as a way of an apology(only after I suggested this though). At the end of our meal as we was still upset about the situation and felt we was owed an apology we did say to the nice waiter that we felt Raj should apologise. Raj came over and said sorry whilst rolling his eyes! Then he got stroppy again and just walked off. I am shocked that he is allowed to deal with any customers with such a bad attitude and therefore we would not return to the restaurant whilst he is still working there. Apparently the working conditions there are not great so I’m not sure how much the boss is going to actually care. It’s a shame as the food is really nice but let down by the service. My mum didn’t get her mushroom rice she had ordered to go with her main until after I had asked 3 times where it was and if it was coming. By the time she got the rice the test of her food was cold and the rest of us had pretty much finished our food.

Food: 10⁄10 — Authentic, delicious and healthier than most Indian restaurants. Service: 10⁄10 — Might be slow for some people but I don’t tend to rush meals. Atmosphere: 9⁄10 — Might be too crowded/noisy for some people. Most notable dishes: Tarka Dhal, Brinjal Bhaji, Bombay Aloo, Sag Paneer, Madras Sauce Other notable things: The Pinot Grigio wine was amazing and was a perfect complement to the food! Servers were humorous and very attentive even with a full restaurant!

There are two very good Indian Restaurant’s in Hove that I use and Hove Tandoori is one of them. The Chicken Tikka Chilli Massala, not to sure if its on the menu but they made it anyway; was the best one I have ever had. The Chicken is of a great quality and the sauce was perfect. The food was hot on arrival and it turned up within 25 mins and not 40 as mentioned. A really great choice for a curry, have never eaten in so cannot comment on the ambience but the staff are lovely. Extremely popular Indian Restaurant in Brighton and Hove, It’s a small restaurant but gets very busy very quick which means there is good ambience. Popperdoms are brought to the table as you sit down, most of the dishes are priced to include rice or nan breads. Presentation of each dish is exquisite and quality is respectable including the fish dishes. As it’s a small restaurant you can only book tables from 7pm and 9pm but its what you have to live with if you wish to eat in an popular restaurant its basically supply and demand. The restaurant has two waiters to each table and governor Shahi is very welcoming.

There are two types of polarised reviews on Qype: those who’ve eaten there and loved it and those who’ve ordered a delivery and very pssed off. We went and in and ordered food for takeaway and I’m glad to say we didn’t wait long. Like Indian Kitchen across the road, the main meal comes with rice and popadums. The takeaway menu is far different and more extensive than their eating in menu. We plumped for a jumbo prawn dish and we weren’t disappointed with all the dishes. Most importantly, if you’ve read my Indian Kitchen review, you’ll be glad to read that my Papads were near perfect and didn’t taste of old oil. Yet I expected something a little more: my 5 stars for Indians are reserved for the likes of Indian Summer and Chilli Pickle — this nearly is a 4* yet…

Great food & service. Well worth checking out some of the less common dishes they offer, such as fish ones & the chef’s specials.

We decided to book here due to the good reviews it recieved on the internet. But despite booking more than 24 hours in advance they left it until an hour and a half before we were due to arrive to cancel us due to them overbooking. I dont have any intention to try again. Back to Ashoka, they are always good.

After being turned away from the Giggling Squid(full), I wondered down Church Street and saw this place was bustling, and thought it must worth a shot… On the whole I was impressed: a couple of poppadoms and pickles turned up automatically; the curries tasted fresh, with well balanced flavours; and the wine we picked was pleasant and reasonable priced. Also, the staff were attentive and polite, service moved along promptly — without ever feeling rushed. I’ve not long lived in the area — and have had very average curries in a couple of other places — it is nice to have finally found a good local curry house!

Now in double figures for reviews today… kicking my new years resolutions ass… I’ll echo Felix T’s comments on the last review. Haven’t eaten in but this is my favourite Indian takeaway in Brighton and Hove. Food is fresh, flavoursome and delicious. The restaurant looks great as well. Just thinking about it is making me hungry…

Very nice food and reasonable prices(except the beer, but that is common). Quick service, though it did feel a little rushed at times. The curries weren’t at all greasy, though a bit heavy on red food dye.

Let me start by saying I absolutely love Indian food and have traveled through most of India, sampling everything from fried, battered veg from street vendors on a platform at Jaipur station all the way to gourmet 5 star stuff in Mumbai. As always, I am happy to be corrected, but the Indian food here is the best in Hove by some margin. You do not get the generic, greasy, bland creamy sauces here. The mains are absolutely delicious, and you can really taste the flavours and fresh ingredients. My only niggle is getting a table, which can be nightmare especially at the weekend, and the service, which does not always match the quality of the food. The prices are reasonable and I can heartily recommend this over all the other Indian places in Hove. A solid 4 stars from me.

I think this might be the best Indian takeaway in Brighton, and not far off being the best Indian restaurant in the area also. I’ve eaten here once and had a very good meal, but the service was a little slow. As a takeaway though, absolutely floorless. In the times I have ordered from here, the food has never disappointed or missed the spot. I always get the chicken rogan josh. While not normally my favourite, Hove Tandoori do this dish particularly well. I can have no real complaints, I’d be there right now if I could.

I must admit, my family and I have been going to Hove Tandoori since I was 7 or 8 which is a fair few years now I’m sad to say, however in this nigh on 20 year period we’ve not once contemplated having our Indian food anywhere else. After its refurbishment a few years ago, the restaurant gave itself a new lease of life as a modern, well-decorated, altogether pleasant place to be. The music is modern and varied, always with a bangra tinge, the atmosphere is lively and the food — the main part — never fails to disappoint. On weekends The Hove Tandoori can become extremely busy, so I’d advise booking ahead if you want to be sure of a seat. The pricing is average for an Indian restaurant, however when weight against the aforementioned quality of food the price appears a steal. The food is typical british indian fare, with no southern indian surprises such as Masala Dosas or similar dishes, but what is on offer is more than enough to appease the most varied of palates. As I mentioned before, I’ve been going here years and so perhaps my views are somewhat biased by all the fond memories I’ve had and created here, but I have eaten enough Indian food — including in India — to know what is good and Hove Tandoori is right up there. Also, if you’re feeling lazy, they’ll deliver the food to you, however this detracts from the experience of the place.

What can I say? After trying a lot of Indian restaurants in the area, I have been going here ever since. This restaurant is truly the king of all Indian restaurants in Brighton and Hove. A pure gem

Both the food and service at Hove Tandoori are excellent, however, the atmosphere can be hit and miss. For example, on my last visit only two other tables were filled but on other occasions it’s been rammed. As such I’d recommend booking a table because it’s the kind of place that fills up quickly. If you don’t fancy risking it, they offer a free home delivery service with every order. You’re looking at approximately £15 per head, which is very reasonable considering the wholesomeness of the food. It’s properly cooked and seasoned and doesn’t give you that heavy feeling you get after most normal Indians. Located near big Tescos in Hove it’s a little out the way but definitely worth the journey.

Some of the best Indian food I have tasted in Brighton & Hove. It’s not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Delicious flavours, and very generous portions. Lots of meat and sauce etc. Loses 1 star for price and also sometimes the take-away’s can arrive a little less than hot, but a quick blast in the microwave will fix that if the spices don’t! My favourite Indian restaurant in Brighton as of writing

No doubt, the best curry house in brighton and hove. I have been to quite a lot of them, Indian summer is good but its not the traditional curry house. Service is fast.
