The Connaught Store sounds like the name of a fashion or homeware boutique but is actually a small newsagent that sells papers, magazines, sweets, chocolate and cigarettes. Like most newsagents these days, it also sells a limited range of wine, beer, spirits and alcopops. If you have the time and inclination, you can also check your email or surf the web on the three computer terminals lined up like sitting ducks.

It’s a newsagent. It has internet facilities. It is a newsagent with internet facilities! Admittedly, the facilities are limited to about three computers and it is pretty cramped, but if you are popping in to buy the paper in the morning and need to check your emails, then why not do both tasks in the same place? Perfect. And if you want to get all economically friendly, why not ditch the paper, pay for a little longer online and read the paper-free version? I just saved a few trees!
