[Insert deity here] bless Wishbone. Twice now they have saved me from a post pub hunger that would have ended with me in prison for cannibalism. At a time of night when chip shops refuse to put anything into the fryer and your left with the decision to either try your luck at one of those 24hr newsagents or gnaw off an arm this place is heaven. Foodwise, it’s pretty much what you’d expect from a late night diner, kebabs, pizzas, burgers, pakoras and the ever present at this small hour chips ‘n’ cheese. So far I have not been disappointed with the quality. In fact, I might go so far as to say that the lamb kebab I had on Monday night(1am Tuesday morning to be correct) was pretty darn tasty, as was the vegetable pakora. I’ve never been in when it’s busy, and I’m guessing it gets really busy at the weekends, but if you’re caught out late on a weekday night, this is the place to get your fried or grilled noms on. So yeah, 4 stars for a kebab joint, most of which comes from the fact that I was starving and there was nowt else open.

Open almost 24 hours, the menu is a slightly extended version of the usual kebab-shop fayre but you can sit in here unlike other places, though whether you’d want to is something else entirely. The owner is pretty vile and tends to leer at all the female customers but if you can get past that then there are worse places to pick up a late-night doner.

Contrary to the ramblings on their website, The Wishbone is nothing more than a glorified takeaway. Chips and cheese is not an ‘international starter’, and I don’t think there’s any need to be given a numbered reference with your order. I’m buying a kebab, not a plasma from Argos. The pizzas are rank, and the annoying bloke with glasses goes off on one at the slightest bit of noise. MTV Base is usually on in the background, so if you want to listen to a rapper holler about guns, hoes and rims, The Wishbone really is your dream come true.
