Now this is a proper sandwich shop. I supposed it should come as no surprise that Piece is something of a Glasgow institution. It has been extraordinarily popular since it opened in 2008 and it’s earned its popularity by consistently getting things right. Here at the flagship store you can really expect something special for your lunch. The sandwich menu is divided into meat, fish, chicken or vegetarian options, with a few breakfast options also available until 11 am. You choose you filling, choose your bread(baguette, ciabatta, bloomer or flatbread) and customise if you must(they’re pretty good at getting the balance right, but will take requests if you have them). Don’t fancy a sandwich? Anything can be made up as a salad. Or maybe try one of their soups which are almost always veggie and gluten free — they’ll make it very clear on the rare occasions this isn’t true. Or perhaps just head straight for the coffee and cake, I won’t judge you. With so many amazing options available in Glasgow these days its easy to forget the humble sandwich. You needn’t, though, not when Piece is elevating it from staple to superlative.

I have frequented Piece many times as I work over the river, but lately I have noticed their ciabatta’s have seriously shrunk, to a 3rd of the size I remember them being… the sandwiches are indeed good and the variety is broad but I feel the rolls have just got a lot smaller, and I am not the only one who has noticed this! The bread is however the same size and I think I will be getting that next time!

Popped in here with the Mr and some friends on way to IMAX a few weeks ago. We’d intended have some foods but mixed our times so ended up just grabbing coffees. Which were really good — I had a latte. It was smooth, creamy, and faintly sweet — just the way I like it! The staff were really apologetic as they were just closing up, but couldn’t have been friendlier. Looking forward to going back for lunch soon — the food looked amazing!

A+ sandwiches! So many fillings to choose from but I tend to go for the Chicken Olé, chicken, chorizo, manchego and salsa with your choice of mayo(go for the garlic!) This is more of a takeaway place for me as it gets very busy at lunchtime and there are only a few seats. I always end up here in the summer months to get a picnic lunch for Kelvingrove Park. As well as an extensive sandwich menu they have soups and some lovely looking cakes which I haven’t tried yet. It would be good to see some toasted sandwiches on the menu but I guess this would cause chaos at busy times. Other than that I have no complaints about this place, always tasty, great value and good service.

Popped in here thanks to Unilocal and managed to grab one of the 2 window tables. Fantastic range of choice — I had a chicken ceasar baguette and the mrs had egg mayo. Both sandwiches were totally delicious and it was just what we were after. 5 stars!

My experience here was a bit underwhelming unfortunately. Perhaps because there was a tide of customers coming in and only 3 servers scrambling about to collect and send out orders? I dunno. I ordered the smoked salmon ciabatta and a cup of cappuccino while the partner had the mackerel and soy cappuccino! The food was nothing to complain about, it was a pretty nice sandwich but I did have to wait a while because the server completely forgot about it. My partner ordered a few minutes after me but he had already gotten his sandwich and I had to wait. Perhaps my rumbling tummy didn’t help either as I grew impatient. Once I got my partner to investigate, they served my sandwich but with no apology for the forgetfulness. I know you’re busy but every customer counts yeah? Don’t forget little me! Regardless the food was lovely and I did love the coffee very much! It was very well made and tasty! Would definitely go back for a cuppa and possibly a take-away lunch instead of sitting in. Maybe an update review will be in order.

Like most of you guys on here, I’m a big fan of SLAW, so when I’m kickin’ back on the Finnieston strip, I’ll always head this joint for a toasty cup-of-Joe and some awesome banter. These guys don’t waste time with the prefix«cole», allowing me more time to high five my guys and compare beard wax and neck tattoos. The slaw in here is super awesome, and the guys who serve are all super friendly and super chillaxed. If you wanna go with the Lebanese sour dough, props to you man, that’s pretty much the bomb. Highly recommended.

Sandwiches in Glasgow can be well a bit blah. Lots of mayonnaise, little to no seasoning and the same options at every wee roll shop. Piece breaks the mid-day meal time monotony with gourmet sandwiches minus the pretension. Ingredients are hand-me on site and anything but blah. My go to favourite is the pastrami special. As an American I’m really picky about lunch meat and the pastrami is just amazing. At the urging of on of Piece’s friendly staff I tried the Fat Boy, Dirty Style(with pickles) on my last trip and it was amazing. Egg mayo is normally on my no-go list since it’s yellow and gloopy but Piece’s is clearly freshly made with chunks of egg and lightly dressed in dijon mayo. Your choice of bread, a can of pop and it all comes in at under £5 – you can’t get a McDonald’s meal for that! Amazing quality and value. Next on my list to try is the Tuna Niçoise – I think I’ll give it a go on flatbread and add lemon mayo. That’s the beauty you can add/delete and change to suit your tastes! I’m SUPER excited my new office is within walking distance!

I came here on a lunch date with my boyfriend. I got the original pastrami and he the BBQ Mi. I was delicious! All the ingredients are nice and fresh, the bread is really soft and a great selection of drinks. The portions are a good size — very filling. We’ll definitely be coming back here again! 10⁄10

This place is consistently absolutely fantastic. It’s small, so seats are at a bit of a premium, but it’s not a place where folk linger for hours over lunch, so there’s generally a short wait to sit down. But most people are here to grab and go — a sandwich or salad(anything can be done as a sandwich, baguette, ciabatta or salad) and it’s always buzzing because the quality is so consistently high. I’ve heard it rumoured that they have a kitchen across in the Hidden Lane where they prep all their own stuff and that quality shows. Popular fillings can sell out, but there’s always something you’ll love. I’m a particular fan of the Bahn Mi salad. It’s not really authentic, but it is ludicrously delicious. Portions are large, prices are reasonable, drinks are interesting(they’ve recently started stocking cold brew coffee) and service is sweet, witty(check out the chalkboard on the way in) and efficient. I eat lunch here far too often — and always think how lucky I am to have such a place close by.

Piece is my favourite sandwich deli in the city. What a stunning wee place too, great coffee, fast service and a sandwich menu that could take a solid month to work through properly. The clincher for me, the thing that takes Piece from a 4 to a 5 star place, is the coleslaw. I adore my ‘slaw, and Pieces is not only great, it’s made in house and makes the perfect accompaniment to their wonderful meats.

I pass this place several times a week on the way to class. I’d always meant to stop and today I remembered. I had high hopes. It being a boutique sandwich shop. As there are many substitutes available such as Pret, the crappy Tesco sort and so on. I had the Jamaican sandwich. Which has chicken, hot sauce, mango salsa and jalapeños. The chicken was bland. Looked like it hadn’t been seasoned very much, plus they didn’t put nearly enough chicken on the bread. But not too bad. They were out of hot sauce and used the asian sauce. Which was very generic. The mango salsa wasn’t horrible but it was really just sliced mango(expected something more interesting). And finally they put 3 slices of jalapeños on the mediocre baguette. All in all it wasn’t bad. It just wasn’t memorable. I would have expected this to be an option from a grocery store. When shopping at a boutique store I figure it will be somewhat special. I reckon for £3.75 it was about as one could expect. However, I’ll probably not return. Cheers.

I was kicking about the west end and had some time to kill before a meeting so decided to check out the much raved about Piece. I actually know a little bit of history as I popped in a running vest for the charity I work for and got chatting to one of the owners. They both used to work together in the city centre and used to moan about the quality of butties saying they could do much better so people said ‘why don’t you then…’ I had a really really good latte and it was extra hot just as I asked for. I also ordered the roast beef, cheese and horseradish sandwich on wholemeal bloomer. The bread wad tasty fresh and thick and the filling wad delicious and well balanced. The shop was clean and busy, staff were fantastic and really friendly. Def a place to pop in for a quick buttie but not a place to loiter in as seating is quite limited.

Brilliant coffee, brilliant sammies, brilliant service. I have a rule about not giving 5 stars to coffee bars, but if you’re looking for real, good coffee in Glasgow, this is the place — and the food is surprisingly fantastic.

I drive past Piece at least twice a week and I got to breaking point: it was time for a visit! I’ve seen really tasty photos of their sandwiches posted on Unilocal, and wanted to get one for myself. Located conveniently on Argyle Street, I was able to get a parking spot down the road and wandered in. I was there for a late lunch so it was pretty quiet but I was glad to see I could still get something made up fresh. I decided to go for the banh mi(note to self for future sandwiches: I really need to try something different) and took a seat at a bench/stool area along the wall. When my sandwich arrived a short time later, I was impressed. It was presented really well with a fresh salad accompanying it. I’d chose to have it on ciabatta — they also had panini or sandwich bread(brown or white). The ciabatta was fresh, soft and just the right amount of chewy. If my memory serves me right, this banh mi had pork on it rather than the more usual chicken(I’m not complaining) and also had some pickled vegetables in it. Perhaps the amount of pickled veg could be cut down as it did kind of overwhelm the taste of the sandwich. Stupidly I didn’t think about taking it off myself until I’d finished. I think I was too relaxed. Anyway, this place was great. A nice vibe, friendly staff and a good location to pop in and out without faffing about. They could have more seating, but then it would probably end up awkward and crowded. I’ll be back.

My first time here pretty bad of me living in the area and l don’t even know what’s around the corner. A fresh very clean café where the staff take pride in what they do you can see this in the way that every detail has been thought of, impeccable service with a smile from the young girl at the counter. This eatery offers speciality sandwiches meat, fish and vegetarian options, freshly prepared soups not to mention their bagels and patisserie selection make them so tempting. Highly recommended place if you are passing by for a light snack or just a coffee. Will be sure to be back.

the sheer VARIETY of sandwiches this place offers will keep me coming back — gotta try em all! having had one tasty sandwich at «another piece»(no idea what it was — contained some sort of magical slaw…) i ventured to the original for more of a sit down vibe. Good things come in small packages — a petite place with a couple of tables and a bench, and was RAMMED at lunchtime, indicating its popularity. I still managed to grab a seat and have the«inquisitor» — balsamic, roasted vegetables, chorizo and aged manchego cheese. omnomnom. the fact that you can choose your bread makes it amazingly customisable to all tastes. The Danesi coffee was also pretty good. worth the trek!

After a lovely afternoon at the museum, stomachs were a rumbling! We’d walked on by Piece on the way there, and having encountered them at a previous Unilocal event at which I developed a great love for their awesome sammiches, I suggested we popped in. It was the end of the day on a Saturday, and as they close on a Sunday the items on the menu were limited. Although I was a wee bit deflated, this is actually pretty reassuring, as you know all of their food is fresh and never left out! Never fear, though, the lovely lady behind the counter made suggestions of flavour combinations with what was left, and I ended up with a lovely cured ham baguette with roasted veg and manchego cheese with a lovely herby mayo. Yum! My other half had a baguette with chorizo, ham, manchego and harissa dressing. Also awesome, but a wee bit too spicy for me! I just love the chilled out atmosphere in this wee café, and it was nice to be able to eat at leisure and not feel rushed, even though the staff were clearly packing up for the evening. I was eying the dessert cabinet which was full of delicious treats, but that was soon packed away as well — probably a good thing given my healthy eating thing I’m doing at the moment. I will definitely be plundering some of that tasty, tasty awesomeness next time, though. ^^ When settling the bill, the gents who were now behind the counter offered me some fruit from a big bowl — obviously not wanting to waste any! I happily scoffed a handful of blueberries while engaging in a bit of banter. A happy end to a happy dining experience. Even if this place is out of your way, you should definitely go and taste some of that happy sammich goodness. Food heroes, I tell ya!

Well what’s to say??? Quite a lot actually! Piece is undoubtedly THE best place for lunch by a long shot! The blackboard menu listing the massive choice of finest quality ingredients to generously fill your chosen bread will have you salivating and making plans for future visits. For a change from a bread-based lunchtime treat, there are also savoury tartlets to enjoy. All available to go, sit in on its own, or with salad. Sitting in, watching the world go by, with great tunes on the stereo is undoubtedly the best way to enjoy your lunch… Coupled with great coffee, this is somewhere I’ll be back to again and again.

Jeebus. Jeebus. Jeebus. Yeah, think that’s probably the best way to start an update of this sandwich shrine to awesomeness. THe update on this review has in truth been a long tim ein coming. If truth be told, I’d probably not make the trek down to this location now that they’ve openend another wee place on the GWR. Perfect! But, chance would have it, I was down in this neck of the woods and in dire need of a spot o lunch. I was mulling over the options in the area(of which there are now so, so many) and the image and tastes of the egg salad, ham and cheese ‘Fat Boy’ popped into my head and kicked all the other images arse’s. Now this is a sandwich. Having munched the humble sandwich in a number of locations throughout the world, I’d have to say that these guys churn out what has to be a very close second to those being made in San Francisco. if not better. With fresh produce the key and the king for these guys, the grub just begs to be enjoyed, nearly as much as the banter from those working behind the counter. I like this place. I love the passion and dedication to good grub and I love the end result. Simple as that. Oh and since my initial review, they seem to have added a few more sitting options, so it feels more like somewhere you could set up with a coffee, a sandwich, oh and maybe a slice of cake(I’ll save that for the next update!) and chill out.
