I absolutely love this gem of a place. The interior has a worn but loved look that always welcomes you in. The staff are incredibly friendly and always willing to offer a recommendation or watch your dog if you have to top up your parking meter. But the best thing about this place is the coffee. The coffee is fresh and hot but most importantly it’s carefully made so that you really feel like you are walking away with something special to sip on. The steamie is one of the best things going for Finnestion.

The first time I visited The Steamie we got off on the wrong foot. It was busy, there was a large group talking loudly at the nearest table as I walked in. Since there’s no real counter to approach I just hovered near the door for a while, trying to figure out who I was supposed to give my coffee order to. I waited a while, feeling ignored, before leaving in a bad mood, muttering to myself about«hipster nonsense.» Problem is, as I passed fairly regularly, it did always seem to have people in it. They always seemed happy. Eventually I decided to give it another chance. This time it was quieter, I was immediately welcomed and after ordering I was served a very smooth latte. I got comfy with my book and I honestly think I could have stayed there reading it all day, without anyone minding. I didn’t try the cakes but they look really, really good, so that’s something to come back for. I still think that the counter-less set up is a bit weird, but they do make it work when things aren’t too busy.

What a strange little coffee shop I don’t think I’ve ever been in somewhere that doesn’t have a serving counter, the staff make the coffee on the left hand side as you walk in making it look like they are just customers helping themselves … But you know what … I love it … It’s so relaxed and chilled, not taking itself serious or pandering to coffee shop stereotypes Bob Dylan drifting effortlessly over the clinking crockery, mellowing you out with each sip of coffee and allowing your daily worries to evaporate quicker than a raindrop in the Sahara Ordered a flat white and a lemon blueberry cake The cake was amazing, soft fluffy yet gooey when eaten, sweetness of the lemon icing balanced perfectly with the sharpness of the fresh blueberries Coffee came Luke warm so had to ask for it to be reheated, the guy was lovey and made a fresh one One little blip in a wonderful chilled place I will be back again and again

The Steamie is rustic and kitsch; warm, inviting and relaxed. It may have been a crisp and cold autumn day but the Steamie’s smooth, smooth coffee soon warmed me up. I visited with my parents but I’d just love to spend a Sunday afternoon with a stream of luscious hot drinks and my nose in a very good book. Going by the hot chocolate selection alone, that would be the stuff of dreams. Quirky touches like the full bookshelves and the suitable old school tunes are lovely little additions and set the tone just right. The counter is right at the heart of the café, and the tables and chairs, mismatched as they are, all blend into one due to spacial constraints. But this is no bad thing; it’s just the kind of place that will make you want to spark up a conversation with the person next to you. — I certainly felt comfortable enough to do so! With a cake selection that had me drooling, I will just have to come back to try the Steamie’s sweet offerings. But, for now… I’m a fan!

I’ve not been here for ages and I have thought about the amazing cherry brownie I had there the last time quite a lot! If I remember correctly it was one of the softest most rich chocolate brownies I’ve had in a long time. I enjoyed it a lot! It’s about 5 minutes from my work and 15 from my flat, so the temptation to go all the time is very high. Bad for my belly! The hot drinks menu is pretty good, I always want to try some kind of hot chocolate but I’ve only ever had tea or a skinny latte. Both of which I’d have again. I know tea is just tea, but I think they use Teapigs which I’m a fan of! It’s really small and some might find it cramped but I love the cosey, relaxed feel to the place. I never ever sit and eat or have a coffee on my own(I don’t know why, I just feel a bit odd!) but I’d quite comfortably do it in here as it’s so chilled out and welcoming. Try here and forget you’re average Starbucks next time you’re looking for a coffee stop that’s a bit different.

I’ve been here twice now and I’ve been satisfied both times. Good coffee, nice selection of baked goods. Very cool interior, friendly atmosphere.

Great service and lots of cakes and drink choices to choose from. The set up of the café is welcoming and the owners are friendly and would provide great recommendations to try.

The coffee is very good and hallelujah the espresso was served neat Italian style. They roast their own beans too. The range of cakes is tempting, so don’t go there if you are counting calories or steel yourself and stick to the soup of the day!

I know, I know Hipster right? Well weesht yer maw! No more of that H-word! I really like the old school, relaxed vibe in here. The mish mashed furniture and worn floors, the lack of WiFi & chilled music all play a part in making this place I could really relax in(apart from the occasional hiss & bangs as coffee is made). I love that there’s no counter, it makes it feel much friendlier. I enjoyed the coffee, not too strong, but still full of flavour, at £2 for a long black I was happy. I didn’t have time to linger too long as they were beginning to close up. All the sweet stuff looks good, I can’t comment further as I only had coffee. The shop sells bags of coffee and tea as well as bars of organic chocolate(they also sell Tunnock’s Caramel Logs for the extra point). The owner was really friendly & polite, chatting away with friends when there was no coffee to be made. I was a little wary of this place as yes the H-word does spring to mind as you walk past, but this place is so chilled & friendly that I’ll be back, even if it’s only during its quieter times

@the_steamie ticks all my boxes. No wifi. Coffee so good that I am willing to wait. Whats the rush, chill chat and I love the open flow of things, no counter between you and the staff!!! Nothing beats it. Its my go to spot, I am willing to travel from the Southside to Finnieston for the coffee and chats!

I can’t add a great deal to Briony C’s review, which I fully agree with. Nice place, nice décor without being outright like a junk shop, nice beardy chap serving the drinks. I sat at the wee window counter and enjoyed watching trendy Finnieston go by.

I spent a lovely afternoon in here with a friend this week and had a pretty lovely time. The tea was tasty, the cake delicious and the atmosphere very chilled out. Perfect for a sunny afternoon! When we arrived there were just a few other customers in which wouldn’t have made a regular café look busy but as The Steamie is quite petite we worried about getting a seat. However when we looked around we saw plenty of places to park ourselves so ordered our drinks and cake and sat down for a blether. Probably it wouldn’t be great for large groups of people, but for two or three pals it’s just the right size. The member of staff who waited on us was very pleasant, happy to stop to answer our questions about the items on offer but didn’t intrude or make us feel uncomfortable despite our camping out there for a couple of hours. The only reason this was a four star review rather than five stars was that the server forgot the cake that we asked for, but she more than made it up to us when she offered us some delicious treats at the end of the day free of charge. We had some kind of chocolate fudge cake and a piece of seed loaf with butter, both were very tasty! The décor is relaxed. It feels like the refurbished furniture shop next door has spilled over a bit with mismatched chairs and upcycled tables, chalkboards on the walls and plenty of space with room for local artists’ work to be displayed. The door was open the whole time we were there and there was lots of passing trade as well as some locals who popped in to say hello — all in all a very welcoming place. I’ll definitely be back! I’d love to try their soup next time.

This is Finnieston’s newest addition, and being a coffee shop it’s bringing something a little different to the area — which is mostly restaurants and bars. I was sad to see the Cupcakery close but the barista assured me this is the same people, they just decided it was time for a change. I love the décor — it’s very open and inviting, and a little shabby-chic without being crappy. While I was sitting there I had flashbacks to Artisan Roast in Brunstfield, Edinburgh — the reason being is that Artisan Roast did the décor design here too. Whoever did it, it works. I grabbed a seat and ordered a tea from the tasty selection(TeaPigs!), and had a bag of vegetable crisps too. It was a great place to hang out for half an hour or so while I took a call, and I enjoyed the chilled out vibe. The barista working was super friendly and welcoming and prices are reasonable. There was a big range of sweet treats which I didn’t try so I guess I’ll have to go back just for that reason…

Living just around the corner this has to be my favourite coffee shop. The Anderson area it’s plentiful with eateries, coffee outlets new take aways all the time. I had been away for two weeks and in that time this place popped up out of nowhere, there a cosy atmosphere that makes you feel your in someone’s house. A good selection of cakes, freshly made soup & light snacks I often find myself wondering in here I do see myself regularly coming here due to the location, with great tasting coffee these guys are sure on a winner.

Am here on a warm winter day for a light lunch and coffee. Loving the vibe of this simple café! I’m not the biggest fan of their coffee but their £2 soup with bread is delicious and affordable! Staff are friendly and the café is cute! I expect to be here more often :)

First visit to The Steamie and it’s a a thumbs up from me. There are lots of cafes in Finnieston but I think The Steamie is the kind of place you’d go to if you want to sit and relax for a while, maybe read your book, with a good coffee and some reasonably priced food. There’s seating for about 25 and you don’t have the long queue of takeaway patrons which can make a café feel hectic. It has a similar atmosphere to Artisan Roast on Gibson Street which I gather has some connection, they use their coffee anyway. On my first visit I had the mozarrella, pesto and tomato panini. The bread was good quality, crusty on the outside and airy in the middle, none of that half baked nonsense that arrives flat and carboardy. A very tasty sandwich. I also tried the chocolate cherry brownie which was deliciously rich and gooey, as a brownie should be. They do homemade soup and bread for £2, a selection of cakes and biscuits and a small selection of sandwiches for £4. I’m not a coffee drinker but they did look good. I’ll be back here soon to try the organic hazelnut hot chocolate and probably some more cake!

Okay, okay so this is a coffee shop and I’ve not had any coffee there. BUT what I have had is THE most amazing chocolate cherry brownie I’ve ever had in my life. British brownies(in my experience) are dry, bland and boring — this is moist, rich and totally warrants it’s very own Unilocal review! I’ll definitely be back for more off the back of this brownie as there was a selection of cakes and other goodies as well as breakfast items and paninis.

Out in Finnieston the other day when the heavens opened and the Steamie, open for just three days at that point, appeared through the sheet of water and looked like the perfect place to shelter with a coffee. Cosy, warm, lots of wood and cool lighting — and super friendly. Looks like an outpost of Artisan Roast — and apparently it is independent but AR is involved. If the aesthetic didn’t give it away, the place stocks AR coffee, cakes and bread. Food is simple — alongside cakes they have bagels, toast, yogurt and granola and do sandwiches at lunch. They will be open later in the evening than some other places — I think he mentioned 6 or 7pm but can’t remember which! I only had a cappuccino and a chat with the guy running the place but the service was warm and friendly and the coffee was excellent. Competition for the also excellent CC&T a block along and The Hidden Lane Café but a great addition to the local area.
