I’m a bit of a cupcake connoisseur, by which I mean I eat too many cupcakes. I like to try cupcakes from different bakeries in different cities, though I’m rarely too excited about what I find. Most cupcakes from bakeries aren’t as good as what I could make at home. So when I say Cupcakery makes great cupcakes, I know what I’m talking about. I tend to stick to the chocolate, because why eat something else when chocolate is available? Their chocolate cupcakes(and variations, like the Nutella cupcake) are fantastic. The cake is moist and the frosting is rich and fudgy. They also generally have a selection of other cakes if you prefer your cake in a non-cupcake form. They now serve ice cream too, which is a great addition for those Glasgow days when the sun actually comes out. And to top it off, the owner is sweet, friendly, and talkative. I like to think I’m not in there buying cupcakes TOO often, but every time I go he treats me like we see each other every day.

My wife and I first discovered Cupcakery simply by chance on the way back to our car after eating at The 78. It looked like they were closing, although the sign said Open. I suggested we give it a shot anyway. We ended up stumbling upon possibly the best cupcakes in Glasgow(it’s right up there with Cup Tea Room’s cakes for me). The cakes are nice and moist. The icing isn’t full of lard like most cupcakes I’ve had in Scotland. Where other cupcake shops try to impress with their presentation rather than flavour, this place has both. We may have possibly stopped by one more time a couple of weeks later, just to make sure the cakes were still good. And they were :) They have so many good options to choose from. On our second visit we had the opportunity to meet the owner. Really friendly and told us a lot about his cupcakes. The best thing besides how good the cupcakes are is the price. You’ll probably leave Cupcakery spending at least a quid less per cupcake than you would most other places.

This has recently moved from the buchannan galleries to Argyle street — and I couldn’t be happier. From the outside you can tell this place is special. With beautiful sign work and gleaming windows — then inside lives upto your expectations. The cupcakes on offer are UNBELIEVABLE! After 8, Irn Bru, Ice Cream Sunday are but some of the awesome flavours you can try! There are tables inside you can sit and enjoy with a hit or cold drink, or if you don’t have a sweet tooth there’s a range of baguettes and other lunch Items. I chose to take mine home to enjoy, and after a lovely chat with the owner who enquired about what I was upto and a chat of about 20 mins — I was one very happy customer on my way. The only negatuve I have is that they are so delicious I fear I won’t be able to stop eating them with living so close!
