Not being a tatooee(I waited for an hour for one once then got the fear at the last minute) I have to rely purely on aesthetics to get an understanding of the world of ink. Since they are going to be permanently altering your body with imagery, I suppose its pretty imperative that a tattoo shop looks cool and the shop frontages of Brighton’s tattoo parlours are some of my favourite looking shops in Brighton. This one has gone all out iconic typography and even a medieval coat of arms defending the right to get you all inky.

Magnum Opus is the brainchild of Baltimore-born Phil Kyle. If there is such a thing as a run-of-the-mill tattoo studio, this is definitely not it. The studio hosts events and shows(see ) and showcases the artwork of the talented tattooists. Lyn Akuru’s work draws on religious iconography, gothic horror and Chinese symbolism; Phil Kyle features Egyptian and Native American art; Luci Lou’s illustrations include Hawaiian beauties, pretty felines and floral tributes. Other artists are Adrian Willard, Inma, Shone and Bob Done. Guen Douglas brings her dark imagination to the studio as guest artist until May 1. Merchandising is available in the studio and from its website:
