Great place for brunch. With a relatively simple menu, breakfast served all day, and an interior outfitted in mismatched furniture and creaky wood floors, it’s a great alternative to the crowded and popular Bill’s next door. The eggs benedict(7.50) was served on toast and the Hollandaise sauce lacked something; however, paired with a glass of fresh apple, carrot ginger juice and good coffee, all was good.

POTOFGOLD. I’ve always passed here and felt it looks overshadowed by big bad bills next door. But you know what… In my opinion its so much better than bills… The food was SO good, the guy that served us was more than a waiter. He chatted to us as if we were long lost friends– maybe that puts people off. But I just felt that the service was great despite it being so busy ! It’s a good price too! Great for a Sunday afternoon hangover chillout.

Been here before but had a veggie breakfast today, which was fine but the mushrooms were black and horrible!!! The taste made me feel ill… so make sure you don’t get anything with shrooms.

Been there twice now for breakfast. Quality and taste of the food very good, but if you’re unlucky and the owner is in a foul mood… Oh my. Seriously not impressed!

The Farm is a cute little café situated dangerously close to Bill’s. However, it offers a good alternative to Bill’s when you can’t get a seat — it may have hit on a cunning business plan here, feeding the Bill’s overflow! As the name suggests, all the products are sourced from a co-operative of local farms and small businesses, and consequently tend to be seasonal and organic. The décor is charming and natural, with a lot of untreated wood, giving a very cosy feel. The staff are extremely friendly which can make all the difference to a place, and the food and drink is reasonably priced. The toilets are a little strange, basically you have to pee in a cupboard under the stairs accompanied by the mops and brooms. The tractor posters on the walls did make me chuckle though! I haven’t eaten here yet so can only vouch for the quality of the tea(honey, lemon and Ginger was delicious) but I plan to visit again soon for either breakfast or lunch as both menus look delicious. Update — I came back for lunch before I even had chance to post this review! I had Sussex ham, mozzarella, tomato and pesto panini, very tasty. My dining companions had eggs benedict, omlette and tuna melt, all looked scrummy. Maybe not right up there with Bill’s, but a great alternative.

I stumbled upon Farm entirely accidentally, I think i’ve never noticed it because I always just thought it was an extension of Bill’s. However, despite the questionable location Farm have chosen, this place is fantastic. Being next to Bill’s is a big gamble, but I would certainly be tempted to come here over their more illustrious neighbour. Selling a variety of locally sourced goods, including roast meat sandwiches and fresh coffee, roasted in nearby Hove. I hope Farm does succeed in staying in business, because they really do offer a fantastically modern and cosmopolitan, organic meal.

Everything about this café screams quality. From the dark panelled floor and homey signage, to the precisely arranged deli bowls on the display — it all looks marvellous. Set up by a consortium of Sussex farmers, these kinds of farm-cafés are all the rage in the South West, and here, Farm seems like it can offer something distinctly rural compared to Brighton’s usual cosmopolitan vibe. The set-up is so well executed and positively authentic that high expectations are inevitable, and while Farm is off to a good solid start, time will tell if it can become established. For a place that lives or dies by the quality and provenance of its ingredients, Farm will do fine. The Sussex cheddar is tangy and crumbly, while the ham marbly and sweet. Their pies are fantastically juicy, and the Sussex breakfast, though a steeper than your average, is worth a try with sausages and bacon this local.

I so wanted to love FARM. I really did. It’s owned and run by East Sussex farmers that grow most of the food themselves without the use of artificial fertilizers or chemicals. The rest of their stock is lovingly sourced from quality local businesses like The Lighthouse Bakery and Monmouth Coffee Company. The problem is, the afternoon I went none of it was, erm, very good. The chicken in the sandwich was tough and dark and the leek and potato soup was smooth and bland. To make matters worse, my flat white tasted burnt AND watery. Maybe it was an off day? Maybe the chef had gone home with a migraine? Who knows! The dissapointing thing, is the FARM has all the other ingredients in place. The staff are friendly, the atmosphere is warm and the décor is lovely. The exterior is painted pastel green and the inside is a cute mix of distressed wood, cream walls, chalkboards and old furniture. If they iron out the food problems, I’d be tempted to return and give it a second chance!

Farm is a new café in the North Laine, next door to Bills. Unlike Bills, which is excellent but overhyped, Farm is brilliant, tasty, and never too busy to get a table(Bills…). All of their food is from local farms(hence the name), reasonably priced, and the service is friendly. I cannot fault this little place: all we have to do now is see if it can survive in this busy café area. Where most of the cafes in the North Laine offer cheap, perfectly respectable grub(more often than not a salad or cold sandwich), Farm offers full lunch-time meals. These aren’t huge, nor expensive, and are a great alternative to some of the more samey food around. I hate to sound like an M&S ad, but these aren’t just jacket potatoes, these are expertly cooked and really, really good quality jacket potatoes! Beyond their scrum food, Farm is a pleasantly designed little place, with milk cans to sit on at their window bar and a lovely, farmy, wooden design. Everything here screams of the simpler life, and it is a pleasure to take a pew in. If Bills is(as it ALWAYS is) too busy for a seat, this is the best alternative option, being so close, as good if not better food… Don’t even bother with Bills, go here instead. It’s way better.

Good grief! It would seem that even in times of economic crisis, cafes are opening up all over the shop. At least in Brighton, where there seems to be endless money to be spent in trendy little food establishments. The latest: Farm. As the name suggests, Farm is going for a rustic country bumpkin image. They use local and organic produce, and locally made bread and they have a seasonal menu, meaning their dishes change according to which vegetables are in season. The décor reflects this ethos– it feels homey and earthy, if a little contrived– but in fairness it would be hard to create a totally authentic farm café in the middle of Brighton! I think they’ve done quite well– the sandwiches are really fresh and delicious and the bread is really nice. They have soups and other winter warmers too. Every time I’ve walked past, it has been packed. Perhaps this will be the café to give nearby Bill’s a run for their money? Farm may not be quite as high on the cool barometer, but their food is up there!
