We were walking along the North Laines just looking at the shops and such. The laines are super cool and a great departure from all the chain stores, ubiquitous Starbucks, Costas and Café Neros, and«box» restaurants in Brighton City Center. We were drawn to Bubble Kitschen when we looked in the window at the homemade cakes. They looked really good and made us go in and give it try. We had the date and caramel cake and it was fantastic. Really moist and not overly sweet with a sponge like cake. The coffee was very good and freshly made. The juices and smoothies looked good also. The place is nice, small with wood floors and simple. The staff was pleasant and helpful. I wish there was something like Bubble Kitschen back here in New Jersey. I also wish we had time to go back for breakfast and the pancakes,

What’s with the tacky name? Brighton is chock full of cafes, many of them catering to the organic/vegetarian crowd, and I think this one just gets a little lost in the crowd. Basically, cakes, coffee, tea, and pancakes. Good.

Hard to get too excited about this place, actually. The coffee was bitter & the ambience was less boho & more boring. Could do better & frankly needs to — the competition will see to ‘em otherwise.

Not bad but not my favourite in the area — sticky tables, slightly expensive prices, not much atmosphere… though that could just be because I generally visit midweek. I like it and go there occasionally, it just looks like it could do with brightening up a bit! Also, I had bread and soup but NOSERVIETTE! I’m all for saving trees etc, but where do I wipe my buttery sticky fingers?!

Cafes line the North Laines like trees — abundant, but ultimately little to differentiate between many of them. Bubble Kitschen succeeds where others whither through a mixture of prime location, good, simple food, and a cute décor. Renowned for its homemade cakes, rustled up by the proprietor’s partner, the organic pancakes, meat and vegan breakfasts, and soups are also big hits. People watchers will find plenty to love here — take a coffee and newspaper outside and watch Brighton’s most colourful characters wander along Brighton’s most appealing street.

This is a lovely café tucked up in one of Brighton’s most vibrant streets. As you might expect, it’s all very organic and homemade. I regularly sample one of the fantastic juices, although the coffee also isn’t bad either. My most favourite thing in Bubble Kitschen are the cakes; if anything in the world would be to die for, these would be it. I have tried a coffee cake, apple and pear, chocolate and a brilliant sponge. This is also a good place to come for lunch; a nice departure from the greasy spoon or a stuffy restaurant. Bubble Kitschen is extremely popular among students and locals, if you haven’t seen for yourself, I’d certainly recommend it.

Residing in the North Laines, this sweet little café differentiates itself from larger multi branch eateries through its gentle, colourful quirkiness and extremely friendly staff. It was very pleasant to sit and listen to a humorously sarcastic gentlemen(I suspect the owner or at least manager), and a French waitress discussing how any job you could dance while doing would make it a joy. As well as being friendly with each other, they were equally gracious with me. Though the cakes(and indeed drinks) are perhaps a little more pricey than you may hope for, they were particularly well presented and delicious. I felt a strong pang of disappointment when the ladies sitting alongside me left their cake half eaten… Especially when it had been served up on such fresh looking plates! Though I went in winter, and was glad to take shelter in Bubble Kitchen’s warmth, I reckon Sophie was right in saying that sitting outside with your drink/snack of choice would be near enough perfection in itself. I was though struck by how busy it grew, considering I went mid week, well after the lunch hour was over, so be prepared to hang around for a seat, or plan to go at unsociable hours. Or, if it is too busy here, try the Tapas bar near by and have some wine instead!

We sat down in a largely empty café(which was beginning to fill possibly as the café next door was now full up) and perused a menu that was pretty promising from organic bangers and mash to fresh salads. I went for a mexican breakfast and my partner went for a baked potato. Hopes that the café deserved more customers began to fail as time went by, especially as the other half was on her lunch from work and limited to about 40 minutes, which was how long it took the food to be served. My mexican breakfast was quite well presented and of not ungenerous proportions, but much of it, especially the fried potatoes were tepid at best and the couple at the next table were heard to send there food back to be heated up. The baked potato seemed to have been microwaved and everything dolloped out from the fridge with varying efforts to actually heat it up. which makes you wonder why it took so long to appear in the first place. Like the food I would be generous to give the place a luke warm rating.

I often wonder how it is that so many cafes can survive in one town. I have no idea how the mediocre ones hang in there, when there are so many lovely, interesting cafes to blow them out of the water! Bubble Kitchen is one such lovely café… The name is playful and the vibe is just as friendly and relaxed. Bubble Kitschen has bags of character, which I think must one of the reasons it is always packed. That and the food of course! They do great breakfasts and AMAZING organic pancakes. Their delicious juices are also a big hit. Fending off some stiff competition from the likes of Wai Kika Moo Kau and Infinity Café, B K(NOT to be confused with Burger King… poles apart!) is definitely one of my fave North Laines cafes. It’s especially nice to sit outside with a coffee in the summer, preferably early though, otherwise you’ll find yourself surrounded by throngs of milling weekend shoppers!
