Les prix chers s’expliquent par la taille immense des crêpes que l’on peut facilement partager à 2. Service souriant.

Going for pancakes is a mandatory activity for everybody visiting the Netherlands. So, even though half of this lovely Unilocaling couple is Dutch, we had to pay a visit to Oudt Leyden. Do not be fooled when you try to enter the restaurant; the door is actually on the right. When you’ve found your way in, you’ll notice that Oudt Leyden lives up to its name and is decorated with various Dutch historical items, which definitely adds to the experience! The service in this restaurant is remarkably fast! Only ten to fifteen minutes after arriving, we were munching away on our pancakes: a savory one with goat cheese and a more traditional sweet pancake. Both were quite tasty and well-prepared; especially the goat cheese which was a nice touch! Overall, we think Oudt Leyden is a great place to get Dutch style pancakes. They serve traditional and more experimental pancakes alike, so most people will find their pancake-y match(savory or sweet) over here. If you’re a tourist visiting Leiden, we warmly recommend going here but note, Dutch pancakes are thin(nothing like fluffy American style ones).

I tried the apple cinnamon and sugar pancake. It was the biggest pancake I had ever seen in my life. It was enough to share with another person. This place has been around for a long time, and there is a reason for it. I love it and would love to come back and try the savory pancake.

I’m not a huge fan of pancakes, but my mother in law was excited to try a Dutch style pancake so while in Leiden we stopped here. We got a cheese and ham one, and a cherry one, both were quite good. I have been to numerous pancake places around the Netherlands and this was by far my favorite. Will take other here.

Stopped in for a late lunch during the week and the place was almost empty. Waitperson seemed annoyed that she had to serve us(probably intended to be on break?) and didn’t really answer our menu questions. Anyway, the two of us ordered the pancakes, of course. They were as excellent as I remembered from a visit years ago. The single pancake served is enormous so be prepared; in fact, we should have shared one. So, still the place to go for that Dutch pancake experience. Just wish the service had matched the pancakes.

My favorite pancakes of our whole trip in the Netherlands, hands down! Oudt Leyden has been serving their winning pancakes for over 100 years now and they are perfection. We were in good company with past diners including Charles de Gaulle, Sir Winston Churchill, members of the Dutch royal family, and the Dalai Lama. Served on large, Delft blue plates the pannekoeken are incredibly delicious and beautiful. Everyone around us was speaking Dutch and the restaurant has a very authentic and traditional feel, which we loved. The service was great and prices very reasonable. Highly recommend!

My husband and I had an early dinner at Oudt. We shared a main course(chicken skewer with veggies and fries) and a ham+cheese+pineapple pancake. The main course was good, but the 5* are really for the amazing pancakes here. This is a place we’re going to stop by again when we’re back in Leiden.

There´s not much more I can say that hasn´t been said about the this place. Every wonderful thing about the food and the place I ditto. My only complaint is with the service. Small town Europe I suppose. I don´t recommend going if you´re in a rush.

Tasty huge pancakes for a hearty meal. Lots of choices and the prices are reasonable for what you get.

The pancakes here are nothing short of phenomenal. They’re the reason you should eat here, and they’re the reason you will be back again and again. On my first visit, I ordered the apple, bacon, and cheese pancake. I sat down expecting a delicious meal, but I was completely blown away by how huge the pancake was! It was delicious, filling, and one of the more satisfying meals I’ve ever had. I knew this wouldn’t be my last visit to Oudt Leyden. I returned, this time ordering the«French» pancake. This one is topped with goat cheese and walnuts, and drizzles with honey. Again, I was amazed by just how much food there was on my plate — so much that I, regrettably, was unable to finish it. The combination of toppings on this one, while remarkably tasty, was just a little too sweet for me. The next time I visit, I’ll probably get a fruity one again(there’s one that comes with ice cream that looked fantastic). The food aside, this is just a really nice restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy, with traditional dutch artifacts lining the walls(notably delftware), and the wait staff are very friendly. I absolutely recommend this to anyone and everyone who currently is or will soon be in Leiden. Dutch pancakes are a critical part of the«Dutch experience,» and you’d be missing out if you didn’t give them a shot. Five stars. Eat here.

Yummy, large pancakes. The ham cheese bacon and mushroom was omelette-like and very filling. The cherry pancake was an excellent treat. My man ordered the apple, bacon, and raisin and enjoyed it. Really nice. Definitely better than another pancake that we tried at another establishment.

Ok, so I wanted to put the famous pancake bakery in Amsterdam to the test to see if all pancake houses were that good in the Netherlands and sure enough. I believe so. I got a pancake with cored sliced apples combined w powdered sugar and butter on a medium pizza sized thin pancake. It knocked my socks off. My friend had the poffertjes and they were not as good as the pancake bakeries. This was the only thing negative because everything else was amazing. Great service and great atmosphere. It had a family feel to it. Good time for sure.

Pfannkuchen Deluxe. Sehr zu empfehlen vitello tonato für 15 Euro oder mit Lachs. Auf jeden Fall hier ein Essen einplanen, wenn man mehrere Tage in Leiden verbringt.

Ok so this place is amazing. I have easily been here 20 times. It has been in business since 1907 and it makes the best pancakes… ever. As a dutchman, I am telling you, this is how proper dutch pancakes should be. They are also served atop giant pancake plates that are specially made by the Royal Delft Blue so there is always another treat when you finish one of these giant pancakes. They have all kinds, including some fun ones, but my favourite is still old cheese and onion. The interior is very traditional, so it’s kind of a time warp stepping inside which really adds to the whole look of the place. The service is good, no-nonsense and well timed(not too slow, but not rushed either). Needless to say this place is great, I recommend it to everyone who ever comes to Leiden. Also if you are visiting holland and are coming down to either see Leiden or The Hague, step out here real quick, walk down the street from the station and you will find it well worth the stop. Btw, both Winston Churchill and the Dalai Lama have eaten pancakes here, so if you are either a history buff or a buhddist groupie, then definitely worth checking out. As we say in Dutch, deze tent is echt een topper!

Riesig, lecker, gut. Was will man mehr?

Who Everest wanted to visit a ‘classical’ pancake restaurant, should go here. This is my favorite one. Old history, great food(and very interesting combinations). Often difficult to get a a table, so best to make a reservation.
