I wanted to love the place, but didn’t :( Went there just for dessert and had the pannacotta. I felt the consistency was a bit too thick for a pannacotta and it had an odd aftertaste. The orangey sorbet to accompany was decent, but not enough to love the dessert. On the positive side, the ambience is quite charming and the location is great.

The Dessert Bar has a fantastic, cozy location just south of Grote Markt, and has the logo and image to lure people in for a range of delicious desserts and sweet drinks, like mixers and sweet wines and scotch, right? Kinda WRONG! They have three or so dessert options, none of which are appropriately unique or fancy for a place called Dessert Bar(stale chocolate cake for one). And the drinks are minimal as well. I ordered the orange ice creamy drink — can’t remember what it’s called — and it was decent, but everyone else at the table had some trouble finding something special. Stocking Jack Daniels and cheap Port just is not good enough! Feels more like a The Average Bar than The Dessert Bar. :(

Situated in the wonderful, cosy part of Haarlem, you’re almost lured inside this place with the fancy appetizing name. The interior is dimly lit, somewhat hipster, and smells of beertjes. For a place called dessertbar, they really don’t excel in desserts, though. I tried the chocolate cake, which was served in abundance, but it was downright stale. When I remarked casually, the not-so-friendly hostess mentioned that the cake is only baked every once in a while. Thanks for not mentioning this while I ordered my once a week sweet delight(just kidding, I eat cakes for breakfast). Overall, the drinks selection is small, but prices average. It could be a good spot to look at passers-by outside or meet up with friends. Just don’t try the desserts.
