Here we had our best diner in Amsterdam: good quality of food, good service, higher level of wine suggestion. We took the recommendated 4-​course-​menue for 36 € and it was worth.

I like this place. It has a nice feel to it; almost a mixture of modern and sleek with some North African influences. The menu has got quite some simple dishes but well made and cooked. The first time I came here with a group of 8 (no reservation) the owner said «no worries, we can make that work» rearranged the other guests and put them at other tables so he could squeeze two tables together so we could sit and eat. I like that. Great first impression and nice staff.
The soft shell crab looked amazing back then (someone in the group ordered it) — I went for a starter only; a well proportioned and delicate beetroot goat cheese dish.
Their home made fries are fries I could kill for when in need of some really good fries one can sometimes found to be.
I had dinner here for the second time last week and ate the ‘Simpel Steak’. Just what you want from steak. Great sauce.
The Chef’s plate is a good choice of dessert if you want to taste everything that’s on the dessert menu!

Last Saturday we went for dinner at Simpel. We booked for 4 persons through

The menu was smaller compared to the normal menu. We could only choose between 3 appetizer, 3 dinners and 2 desserts. That was a bit disappointing.
We received a shooter of vegies which was really nice and the wine we picked was good. The food was really simple. Too simple! It was a bit disappointing. (I could make it myself at home)
At the end the waiters were pushing us and unfriendly so we would leave the restaurant so they could give our table to someone else (We were just sitting there for 1.5 hours)
I will never go to Simpel again. The price/​quality ratio was bad. Paid 130 euros and the food was simply too simple and the service was not good.
All in all, one big disappointment…

Second time here and both times were excellent. Great food. Great staff. Great all around. Small and simple (but not too simple) menu that is always expertly prepared. Cod with pumpkin risotto was amazing. Highly recommended.

Das beste Steak Tartar, dass wir je gegessen haben (Partner Halbfranzose, gemeinsam 6 Jahre in Frankreich!) Auch das Hauptgericht exzellent unbedingt ausprobieren!!!

Great experience here. Simpel is a cut above most restaurants in Amsterdam and although you pay a bit of a premium here, it’s worth it.
We found out about the restaurant through the Amsterdam Foodie blog. I checked out the website and found it to be a bit cheesy, so my expectations were muted. Both Unilocal and
had sort of 3+/7.5 ratings so I thought it was going to be a decent meal but nothing extraordinary.
I was pleasantly surprised. We had the potato leek soup, the entrecôte starter, the lemon marinated chicken, the monkfish and the petit grand desert to round it out. The service was excellent and they placed us at a nice table at the window towards the front of the restaurant. A cozy, dark interior with a nice long bar — it’s a comfortable setting for a good meal. Situated right in the middle of Ferdinand Bol, so plenty to do in de Pijp after dinner.
Reservations are pretty easy — we called Friday afternoon and had an 8:30pm seating, but the restaurant was full. The menu is listed on the website and I didn’t get the impression that it changes much, but I wouldn’t mind trying the duck or tagliatelle. We would definitely go back!
