Four stars for the apple tart! Random, I know, that we came here and just ate an apple tart, but we had a bad experience at another restaurant and I really wanted a good apple tart. We stumbled upon this place and decided to try it. I love the seating right on the canal. They have some shade too so you aren’t stuck in the sun. We grabbed a table, ordered an apple tart and waited. I do wish we ate here again later, the menu had a lot of great choices. Also it looked pretty nice inside, but being that it was the middle on summer in the middle of the day, of course we had to eat outside. The apple tart was very good. It came with crème fraîche. I like it when a place realizes that the apple tart doesn’t have to be overly sweet. The crust was very good as well. Overall a good experience.

Rude, ridiculous service. Terrible service, the waiter gave us serious attitude about asking to add some water to the tea cup with wording«we have to pay our rent, this’s very expensive place» while we ordered full 2 course meal for 3 people. After all we got cold second course dishes & asked to redo it. Waiter touched the dish with his hand & returned in 5 min with the same fish that was warmed up. Sadly this kind of service is in the restaurant that looks like it should be a good classy place.

This popular spot can get very crowded during the weekend. Especially the terrace, because it is really best place to sit. Even when the sun is not out. Inside there are quite a lot of seats. They also have a lots of seats in the cellar so if you come in and it looks like there are no seats left, just go to the back and go downstairs. There is also a bar there and I know, sitting in the cellar may not sound so nice but it is actually okay there I think. I actually do like Morlang. I always thought I wouldn’t like this place but when I went there for lunch once, I found out that it is actually an okay place to have drinks or eat something(haven’t had dinner though). The burger I had for lunch was also really good. Very tasty! I also think the service is good and the girls are very friendly. So for me, this place is nothing really special, but if your hungry or thirsty and shopping in the Leidsestraat or something, it is an okay place to go. Especially if you can sit on their lovely canal side terrace.

I would readily give this spot 10 stars if I could, and not based on the service or the quality. No, it would score close to 2 for both. Rather, what makes this place a sweet spot is the location and the very Dutch experience while you’re here. You would be very very lucky to be able to find a table by the canal on a sunny afternoon. I know I have spent a few minutes waiting for someone to leave so I could grab their spot. This is arguably one of the best places in the city to enjoy the rare sun with good company and cheap drinks and snacks. Speaking of snacks, they do some innovation there. Try out the samosa things or the tortilla dip. For lunch, they have a very limited menu, but the food doesn’t matter as much as the seating, and they are really a good bet. Dinners are also nothing great, but very apt for a not-so-big night out with a few friends. It gets so good here that I have spent many hours over conversation and drinks. One time, we went through about 4 bottles of white wine before realizing we had to work the next day! If you’re in Amsterdam and happen to be near this spot and it’s sunny, just stop what you’re doing and head over to Morlang. If you don’t soon, you wouldn’t have a sunny spot.

Had a lovely dinner here with another couple last night before heading to the Concertgebouw. I ordered the veggie strudel and my husband had the Peking Duck, with some frites on the side, of course. The food and drinks were all delicious, and the service and space were appropriate. I have to add that the extra side order of frites was absolutely necessary, as the individual portions were somewhat small. We all indulged in the fries and were satisfied with one order for four people. I would definitely stop here again, for dinner or just drinks, but the menu is somewhat limited. What to expect: approximately 10 starters, 2 salads and 10 main entrees, all somewhat indonesian/asian/spicy in nature. Tight space, small tables. Modern décor and a trendy feel. € 10-€ 25 per person/per course. A decent Amsterdam option.

Brilliant spot for sunset drinks by the water. Not too many options for drinks, though the rose was lovely and the rice beer(with a lemony flavour) kept the beer drinkers happy(not that they were ever unhappy in Amsterdam). There is a dessert cocktail — a scroppino(lemon sorbet, vodka and prosecco) — delicious but dangerous(especially if ordered by the litre!). The food was overall very good: for bar snacks, we tried fries(excellent, as they seem to be everywhere in Amsterdam), curly fries(delish), spring rolls(ok) and nachos(nice). We also tried the fish with black spaghetti and jamon(very tasty) and the Mississippi mud pie with vanilla milkshake(excellent, drooling at the memory). Everyone else’s meals looked good too! If you can snag a table right by the canal its pretty much a perfect spot in the late afternoon/evening — we didn’t want to leave! If this place had a cocktail list I would give it five stars …

The restaurant came recommended and first impression was positive — friendly service and very flexible in rearranging and moving us to a larger table(we booked for 8 but ended up being 10 people). Beer options were not many and pretty standard and wine list was not something that really impressed either but the wine we ordered was rather ok and price-wise fairly ok as well With regards to food we started off with some different starters and most of it was good. The duck confit was very tasty, carpaccio was standard but good and the tomato soup was also good(a bit too hot). The mains were however hugely disappointing, one in our group went for the salmon and it was not bad. The beer-braised hare that was a recommendation from staff was awful — dry, hard and almost inedible. The flavors did not at all match well and frankly it was really a bad meal. The thai curry was average at best so not a place I will return to.

The 2 stars are for the convenient location but there’s really nothing else about this place. I went there for drinks with a couple of friends and we sat at one of the small tables, where I can’t for my life imagine having dinner. The restaurant is like a narrow, long hallway with the bar on one side and tiny tables on the other. If you’re sitting on the inside of the tables you’re good but on the outside… it’s so uncomfortable as there’s not enough space between the bar and the tables so people’s butts are constantly against your head. The service was mediocre, the waitress brought the wrong wine but didn’t seem to care and they served me the skimpiest and most expensive cup of fresh mint tea I’ve had in Amsterdam. Definitely not going back.

One of my best meals of 2011. This place hits a bulls-eye on every level. We were wandering Amsterdam, trying to find the perfect restaurant for the evening. Drawn to the smart design, the menu posted outside snared us. Service was much more attentive and efficient than I’m accustomed to having in Europe. The menu is heavy with game, prepared with a local twist. The venison carpaccio with beets three ways was outstanding. Even better was the soft-shell crab and crab cake, with a hint of Thai green curry. The beer-braised hare was a knockout, and in itself almost worth a trip up from Brussels. We finished with Thai sticky rice with coconut milk, which was served with a twist. Morlang’s space is lively, but conversation isn’t too loud. I’ll be dining there again the next time I’m in Amsterdam.
