Located in the heart of the 9 Straatjes area, Miauw is a cross between a bed and breakfast and a small boutique hotel. It’s quirky and charming, full of character, well-maintained, with well-appointed rooms and suites, and within a stone’s throw way to a number of restaurants and shops including a Fred Perry and Red Wing. If you are looking for a full-service hotel with a snooty front desk, 200 cookie-cutter rooms and your typical fanny-pack-wearing tourist horde, then Miauw is definitely not for you. Miauw only has 2 suites and 2 rooms. We stayed in the White Room and the White Suite during our stay. The White Room has great canal views but a bit small, a desk with a Mac and a vase with fresh flowers, and a tiny, quirky bathroom. But it works. The only complaint I have is the lack of storage space, like small cabinet would do and a shelf in the bathroom to store toiletries. As for the White Suite… If I move to Amsterdam — one day, you never know — this will be the place I’d want to live in. With an unbeatable view of the canal, a fully-functioning kitchen with a fridge, microwave and 4-burner stove, pots and pans, plates and utensils, a dining table with 4 chairs, a Mac, a B&O TV, a sectional sofa, a heavenly bed, and fresh flowers to seal the deal, the suite is bathe in white with subtle and modern furnishings. It’s bright, airy and dreamy. What else do I need other than the money so I can pay for my stay here? A nice-paying job in Amsterdam.
