In such a cute area of the city, but it’s a far walk to a lot of the major attractions, but that didn’t matter to me. The hotel staff was really nice and helpful, but I just feel that it was pretty over priced for the quality and given that I stayed there during somewhat of the off season, I would have expected the rate to be lower. Regardless, if you’re looking for a nice, quiet place to with minimal bells and whistles, I’d give it a shot!

Complaints first. The beds could be a little less wirey. You can feel some parts sticking through. Everyone slams their doors. Why. Why why? There is no lotion in the standard room. Pros. Nicely designed. Eco conscious. Kind reception. Comforter looks thin but does the job to keep you warm. Nice pillows. Nice bathrooms with standing shower and rain head. Free coffee from nespresso in the lobby. Shampoo and body wash isn’t complete garbage, doesn’t make hair feel dry or dirty, matted after washing. I really like the location. A few minutes walk from downtown allows you to see the lovely canals(9 canals). Close to holtkamp bakery is a plus plus. Near to Heineken experience and walkable to rikjsmueseum, antique shopping, Utrecht shopping…

I stayed one night at the Mercure Amsterdam Arthur Frommer. It has a fairly central location but still on a side street. It takes around 10 minutes to get there with tram from the central station but if the weather is nice it is also walkable. The hotel lobby appears to be fairly recently renovated and has a, to be an Accor hotel, fresh feel to it. The staff at the front desk were very nice and helpful upon check-in and the entire process was efficient. I got a room on the first floor and having read some of the reviews I was a bit worried that it would be tiny. I would not say that it was big but still fairly normal size for a room in a European city. There was a fairly large bed in the room and still there was enough space for the desk, mini-bar, TV, wardrobe and safe. The toilet and bathroom were separated, and both fairly small but still functional. I would not have minded a bathtub and some better shower gel but no real complaints there. What however was bad was the sound proofing or rather lack of. I could easily hear the conversation in the room next door(and the next morning it was as clear that someone was praying to the porcelain god). There was also noise from the street that disturbed me in the early morning. Would not have minded a more comfortable bed either. As usual with Accor hotels they charge for Internet access, and it is a true negative from my perspective. It should be included nowadays. Do also avoid the breakfast(if you need to pay extra for it). It was truly a depressing experience for something they charge more than € 16 for. Still if just need a room to sleep for one night it is a decent choice for the central parts of Amsterdam.
