What a nice location is the Max Brown Hotel in downtown Amsterdam. There are parking places in front of the hotel, near the canal. So watch out when you park the car! We had a Unilocal event in the lobby/bar of the hotel. The staff is very friendly. The hotel looks very cosy and small. But they have 40+ rooms. At the bar you can get everything you want in the bar: coffee, wine, small snacks. The walls of the hotel al very unique: they are made of old books. Every Friday there is live music. As a hotel guest you can use the hotel boat. The guestbook of the hotel is very special: just write down your experience at the wall in the lobby. For all the locals, the hotel is not only for the tourists, just come in and drink a wine!

The hotel lobby serves as a bar with great interior decorations and comfy lounge couches. The staff is incredibly helpful and pleasant. The room, however, is run down and lacks isolation. Neighbors showering, flushing the toilet, having sex, and simply walking produces an insane amount of noise. Not only that some of the rooms are located right next to the bar/kitchen area so prepare to hear people in the bar until late at night and then early birds having breakfast and the general kitchen’s hustle and bustle which was unreasonably loud. If you plan on sleeping in or still suffering from jet lag, ask to have the room on the upper level or further away from the kitchen. The location was great, walking distance to major attractions.

I’m sort of going to review the bar here instead of the hotel. So keep that in mind when reading. I only stopped in here with the friends to have a couple of whiskeys and a beer to check out the atmosphere. I had walked by many times and seeing the books on the wall which looks interesting. It is in fact an interesting way to decorate a wall. A wall of literature. I like that idea. It is tempting to sit in the front where these books are, but if you wander to the back there are a couple of couches with a strangely arousing neon sign. I was drawn to it like a mosquito to a bug zapper. Very cozy on those couches despite the massive neon lights in your face. cozy little place to stop for a few drinks. As for the bar. It was completely empty when we arrived with two bartenders there to help out. They were very nice and quick to get our drinks. Not much else to say there, pretty standard. They were dressed nicely though with big aprons on.
