A good place for seafood and shellfish. Busy but quiet; mostly older crowd. Friendly crew and good service. We tried the mixed grilled fish; halibut, salmon and shrimp as a main course. For starters we tried the clams and cold assortments of shellfish which contained crab legs, lobster, mother of shrimp, and shrimps. All were delicious. The place is a bit on the pricy side but worth the visit. Enjoy

We had an excellent dinner at Lucius. The herring appetizer was delicious. The turbot in hollandaise was done well, with the fish being especially well-cooked.

Wonderful seafood restaurant right in the center of Amsterdam. Old-school décor with white subway tiles and a fish tank. Waitstaff is lovely, friendly and rather efficient(for Amsterdam!). We shared a few appetizers — local oysters(delicious and large — reminded me of my favorite Gulf oysters I get in New Orleans), mackerel and smoked eel were a revelation. Never high on my list of things to eat, I’m nonetheless an adventurous eater and decided«when in Rome» or Amsterdam, in this case. We were so pleasantly surprised as both dishes were delicious in flavor and simplicity. The mains were great too — fresh swordfish, wild salmon and sole. Good crunch French fries and a nice salad. Definitely go to Lucius if you want wonderful seafood!

You can feel the hype that seems to prop up this temple of fish at the edge of the 9 Streets shopping district. The location – between Dam Square and swanky shopping, is prime. The menu and service isn’t fussy, but this is still fine dining. It is menu fixated and obsessed with fresh fish. Those looking for much beyond the sea – even side dishes – will be disappointed. We skipped, for instance, on what sounded like a host of afterthought deserts and opted instead for coffee and stroopwafels in a nearby café. Pricey and not exactly charming, go to Vicius expecting exceptional food and something of a ‘fine dining’ experience in a city that adores the casual. You get a dinner that feels a bit stodgy, in a charming way, classic and classy – all not uniquely Amsterdam attributes, but that work wonderfully to showcase the freshest catches on offer at Vicius.

Better fish house around in Amsterdam. Can not go wrong here but you need to book a RDV as it is a secret not too secret anymore…

I thought it was decent. Typical Amsterdam restaurant. Small but cozy. They did a nice job with presentation and food quality. I had the catch of the day which was swordfish with a nice tomato sauce and creamy sauce to mix up and put on top. They added a nice langostino shrimp and a mussel on the plate so everything looked all fancy. However you are surrounded by coffee bars meaning the smell of pot was wafting in throughout dinner. But no big deal.

We were lucky enough to find this place by chance the first time and multiple trips to Amsterdam later, we always make this a must do on our list. The food is simple but prepared in way that brings out the essence of the ingredients. The décor is likewise simple but elegant. This restaurant has been around a long time and it is easy to see why– we have had consistently good meals here. Also-check out the amazing live coral salt water aquarium they have here!

The best oysters in Amsterdam, the Guillardau are delicious. Take them with or two glasses of champagne. Delucius. Great seafood. A big surprise becasue in amsterdam is hard to locate the best restaurants and places, This is an authenthic seafood restaurant, not pretentious. The staff nice and kind, and the variety on seafood is high quality. Nothing like a lobster and after that, smoke a joint in Kadinsky cofeeshop half a block from Lucius, and half a block in amsterdam is very close. Lucius is a jewel near the Singel Canal. It open from 5 pm to 12 pm, it can be a late night place.

Hubby and I chose this place for dinner and whilst it was very busy and the service was fairly decent, it just wasn’t our thing. We ordered a seafood tower, and yes it was very, very different from what we would order in America. I am not saying that one is better than the other but if you’re expecting cooked and then chilled shellfish with all the usual accompaniments like you’d find at a US steakhouse, this is NOT the place. Most of the shellfish we’d never seen before let alone heard of. Like the troopers we are though, we tried everything. We ordered a small assortment and there was too much on the tray. I hate wasting food, especially protein but I just couldn’t stomach some of the raw snails. I had the salmon for my main course — it came with a hollandaise type sauce. It was excellent quality but a little undercooked for my taste. The restaurant itself has a nice ambiance. Lots of locals. No problem walking in without a reservation.

Went to Lucius with my Dutch colleagues. I had the mussels and was a little disappointed. I’d had such good mussels throughout my trip that I expected something fantastic here. They were good but definitely didn’t live up to my expectations. My husband had salmon that was good any my colleagues enjoyed there meals. I would definitely go back but my selection will be different next time around. If you want great mussels, and they are in season, go to the small bruin café — Café Oranjerie in the Jordaan!

Julien
