Food is really delicious, the restaurant is cute and well decorated. The wait staff are friendly… but SLOW(even thought the place only had a few people in it). Don’t come expecting a quick bite. We had sushi, ramen and genmaicha tea — all were yummy and high quality. We will definitely return. Prices are normal for this neighborhood.

This was a gorgeous little Japanese restaurant in the Nine Streets that I never even knew about but let me tell you, it’s deliciously gorgeous! From the moment we were welcomed in, to the moment we walked out, filled to the brim! Food arrived in a perfect stream so my guests and I were able to talk and giggle but not be bombarded with(or wait forever for) food. The décor inside was a bit of a tight squeeze with the other tables around but like the Dutch are so fond of saying, it was proper gezellig! Besides, it was so uniquely Japanese with just the right blend of Dutch(you’ll notice the tile work in the doorway) that it’ll charm anyone! We ordered a variety of sushi, noodles and fried up goodies — unagi, salmon, tempura ebi and avocado nigiri, fried egg noodles with chicken and finally, my favourite and also quite hard to find in Japanese restaurants in Amsterdam, takoyaki with a side of gyoza and edamame! And of course we finished up with green tea ice cream and daifuku /mochi ice cream! Everything was fresh, tasty and beautifully prepared. Exactly what you’re looking for in a Japanese restaurant! We also spied some nice out door seating which I think would be perfect if it stopped raining in Amsterdam long enough for us to enjoy it. so maybe tomorrow?

Quaint little restaurant. Great Sushi and variety of items on the menu. We had the seaweed salad, avocado and shrimp salad, and edamame to start with. The sushi rolls were nicely prepared and delicious. We ordered 2 rolls after the appetizers for 2 people and had plenty. The tempura roll was delicious! We finished dinner off with the tempura ice cream, one of my favorites and unfortunately impossible to find in Bavaria where I live(like the seaweed salad).

I keep coming back to this place for the Philadelphia roll. I’m sure that it’s totally inauthentic. I can’t imagine that the Japanese approve of cream cheese in their sushi but I think it is delicious. Beyond that, the setting is very cosy and all of the other dishes that we have tried have been delicious. I gave it four stars because I do find it a bit more expensive than some other similar places in Amsterdam.

As soon as we stepped into this Sushi restaurant we knew we were going to embark on a long sensory adventure. Not only was the host incredibly friendly. The sushi was no less than an savoury explosion on my tastebuds. The salmon and tuna maki followed by a salmon handroll were truly an incredible experience for us. Not to mention the prices were quite affordable. When I saw the sushi chef behind the counter removing the scales from a fresh fish I KNEW i was at THE sushi restaurant to be at in Amsterdam! Overall, these were delicious sushi and I will definately be coming back here on my next escapade to Amsterdam.

Great food! I went here for dinner and tried the tuna sashimi-fresh and lovely, the beef yakiniku-delish and kaki fry-fried oysters — good-could be better. The food overall was good. Thumbs up! The ambience is lovely and cozy. they have three levels — semi-basement, ground floor and first floor — we sat on the first floor. Its not super fancy but its casual, cosy. The service could be better though — we got the sashimi fairly quickly but our main course took a really long time. I liked that the menu had some things that you dont usually see in regular japanese places. Overall — great place for good japanese food. Would have loved to give it 4 stars but the wait was wayyyy too long! It could prolly just be one incident and so lets see how it goes next time and I will update the review as I am definitely going back here soon!

It’s just not that great. Nothing wrong, just not that great. Food was fine, just not that great. The service was so-so, and the restaurant was empty even, just not that great. Bento box was good, just not that great. So. I’ll keep looking for a really good Japanese restaurant. E*

My husband and I were shopping at a store nearby and noticed this sushi spot. We just moved to Amsterdam from the states and were excited to see a sushi spot that was busy with people sitting outside. Checked Unilocal and saw that most of the recent reviews were 4 stars so we thought we would check it out. The service was alright but the food was average. I was first disappointed to see that their selection of sushi was small and the rolls were not very inventive. They had s shrimp tempura roll with mango and mayonnaise. When I asked, they said it wasn’t spicy mayo, just mayo. They seem to put that on everything, not just french fries, here in Amsterdam. I decided to go with a basic spicy tuna roll. The tuna was not the most fresh fish I’ve had, and the roll had SO much rice on the outside. Not sure what I was expecting since tuna isn’t common in this area and we are probably spoiled with better sushi in California, but was definitely disappointed in this. Also had gyoza(fried potstickers), which was a safe bet and tasty. My husband had chicken katsu curry, which had good flavor, but the breaded chicken wasn’t very crispy. All in all, it was fine — but we are definitely deterred from trying sushi again!

I so loved this place! I had lunch here with a fellow upbeat and positive spirited Unilocaler. Lunch was lovely. I loved everything about Kagetsu. The box lunch, it gave me a cosy feeling of when I use to live in Japan. They also have a great and cosy terrace to enjoy lunch on. I definitely look forward to returning back with Dutchman. Service was impeccable, it was like I was back in Japan all over again. I believe the world’s best customer service is in Japan. Kagetsu gets mad kudos for ambiance, customer service and great food in Amsterdam.

This is a cozy little japanese restaurant in the Negen Straatjes. I stopped in for lunch. The food is excellent. I had an unagi roll bento box for lunch that came with salad, gyoza and miso soup. It’s really got a nice cozy atmosphere to it that is comfortable and welcoming. I checked the menu for dinner items and found more than a few I’d like to try. Prices were moderate. The service was good but I was the only one in there so I’ve no idea what it’d be like when they’re busy. There are a couple of tables outside if you prefer. They are dog friendly if they’re slow

One bad review is downgrading this delicious and stylish restaurant. We had an excellent meal here– delicious nigiri selection and the caterpillar roll was heaven. Avocados were perfect. Fish was fresh and well cut. For Japanese fans, this is a great spot and for real aficionados it will do the trick. The service was quick, friendly and discrete. The décor is cozy, nice wooden exposed beams and interesting divisions on three floors. Great neighbourhood, excellent food and worth a return visit for sure.

Just went here with a friend and was happy that our appetizers and drinks came pretty quickly. Not too long after(a little longer than it usually should) my friends entrée came. About fifteen minutes later, my entrée hadn’t come so I asked one of my two waiters if it was on its way. She responded saying she thought so, and then the other waiter confirmed my order and went back to seemingly get my dish. Another fifteen minutes go by, now a half hour after my friend got their entrée — so I asked for a check, not wanting to wait any longer. The check arrived with my entrée being charged, and when I asked the waiter to take it off, she told me that she would put if in a take out container. I didn’t go to this restaurant to wait a half hour after my friend finished their meal to first get food to go. I had already finished my beer and to top it off — they were empty and we were a party of two! Very disappointing. If the food was at least good this might seem permissible, but it was mediocre at best.

Kagetsu is really a nice and cozy place to enjoy some really good sushi/sashimi and hot dishes! When you enter this place, you almost feel like you are in a tiny restaurant in Tokyo! Service was also very friendly, even though he didn’t recommend any thing when he handed us the menu. The menu is very diverse with lots of recommended menu’s, sushi, sashimi, hot and cold dishes and even bento box for as lunch! We ordered in total 7 different dishes with Japanese tea and it was around € 35 per person. But it was value the money, because the sushi was really good! Especially the Tempura roll and Unagi roll! Sashi salmon was good, however it was a bit t sliced too big in my opinion. Other recommendations: Takoyaki, famous dish in Japan, which is a like a ball-shaped of a wheat flour-based batter and cooked in a special takoyaki pan. It is filled with minced or diced octopus.
