Totally awesome place to eat breakfast!!! GARITINE… has a great feel to it. Plus the food is fantastic. Had scrambled eggs with rye toast and coffee 9.95 Euros. Eggs were cooked perfectly with chive. Served on top of toast with very fresh lettuce .Yep lettuce! And it all went perfectly together. It is a small place I got there at 10 and it filled up minutes later. If you are in Amsterdam eat here it is a great exspearance!

Enjoyed this breakfast spot very much. Beware though, this place is VERY small, and we were fortunate to walk up and get a table for 2 within 10 minutes, but the people who arrived right after us were turned away. This was around 10:30AM or so. We had a big breakfast with croissant, bread, egg, home made jams, french toast. Delicious.

Possibly the best breakfast I ever had. The Eggs Benedict Royal with soft boiled eggs, smoked salmon, sauce Hollandaise, and brioche. Holy crap! Amazing! They take reservations, so try to get one in advance. Otherwise you’ll have to show up when they open at 10am which is what we did.

Be careful they offer morning menu including pancakes only until 12:00! I had a plan to have lunch and pancakes there during the stay in Ams. But arrived at 12:30 so no pancakes menu anymore… much disappointed with that. BUT the spinach soap I ended up ordering was really amazing!!! It was a completely new taste for me. never drunk anything like that soup. I had no idea spinach soup with not a creamy taste but a oily garlic taste. It looked a little oily but was bursting with flavor. Garlic, butter maybe a various kind of herb in it. The bread which came with it was right toasted. The butter was full of herb. tasted like a coriander a little bit. I highly recommend their soup menu ;)

This was the best breakfast I had in Amsterdam. I had the big breakfast which came with some bread, french toast, croissant, coffee, fresh orange juice, ham & cheese and marmalade. Best thing is that everything is homemade! So yummy. And that for only 12,95 € !! My boyfriend was a bit annoyed because they don’t have wifi and also don’t accept visa. So for him I don’t think he was too happy with the place because of that. But to me it didn’t really matter as long as the food makes me happy :)

I was walking around on a freezing day looking for a good soup to warm me up and discovered this nice little spot. This place definitely separates its self from the usual grade in Amsterdam. I went with the morning harvest Garden Soup and a Winter-Bread Pastrami Sandwich. Now I’ve had monster pastrami sandwiches in NYC; but this was on a whole other level. I later came back the next day with my friend for Afternoon Tea which surpassed my London breaks. Veggie Quiche, sandwich, Smoked-Salmon cream filled choux pastry, cakes… and a nice pot of Tea. Everything was perfect. BTW, if your coming for dinner they don’t seem to serve wine. Mind you I would suggest reservations as this small place and gets very crowded. It would be nice if the tables where spaced further apart.

This must be one of the most romantic breakfast places I have experienced in a long time. The place is very small and intimate with only 7 tables. I had Eggs Benedict, a croissant with butter, homemade jam from their fruit garden and a coffee. My boyfriend had the large breakfast that includes: Croissant with butter, sourdough toast, French toast, homemade jam, fried egg and a warm pear drink with herbs. It may not have been the healthiest breakfast, but it was worth each calorie. The atmosphere and service was perfect, and everything is homemade! Reservation is necessary, and prices are very reasonable(10 – 20EUR).

Stopped in for a bite in the afternoon and was lucky enough to get a table without a reservation. Got the Classic High Tea. The Quiche was light and fluffy. The cheese and califlower chutney where a fantastic combination. The smoked salmon sandwich was amazing. The desserts of Mississippi Mud Cake, Lemon Merengue Pie and Black Current Cupcakes were the best I have ever tasted! All this in a super cozy, warm, welcoming atmosphere.

My vocabulary isn’t extensive enough to adequately convey how wonderful my meals were at Gartine. I had the opportunity to dine at several restaurants while we visited Amsterdam, and none of them came close to the quality of food and service that we experienced at Gartine. I had seen Gartine listed in a travel booklet I consulted before embarking on our trip, and so it was at the top of my list of places to check out while we were in town. We stopped in for lunch and coffee, and I ordered the cream of goat cheese with roasted pumpkin, smoked bacon and sourdough toast — it was outstanding. The pumpkin had an exquisite taste and was perfectly roasted. Sean C. had their toasted muesli bread with softly stewed onions, white beans, old Beemster cheese and sage butter — need I say more? He was in heaven. Dutch cheese in general is fantastic, but a combination like that? He loved the combination of cheese and sage butter. The next time we went to Gartine was for high tea, and it blew us both away. The savory treats were tiny and delicate but were each bursting with flavor. The best part, however, was the fact that we were able to share, like, six slices of different desserts. EVERYTHING was perfect. Like I said, I don’t think I have the right words to describe how much in love I was with everything. It was the beauty and aesthetics of an Anthropologie, but with delicious food. Perfect.

Absolutely delicious. I popped in on a whim after finding this place on Unilocal. It’s dangerously close to the nasty touristy areas of Amsterdam, a bit tricky to locate if you don’t have an internet connection, and easy to walk right past. But oh my goodness — I’m in love. I’m one of the lucky ones who popped in without a reservation for a Saturday lunch and was lucky enough to get a table. I think the only reason I was allowed to sit down is because I was dining alone, and was told(nicely) that I could dine, but had to be gone in 40 minutes since the table was reserved at that point. No less than 4 parties were turned away during those 40 minutes. Service was quick, food was fresh and delicious(mint tea with squash, bacon and goat cheese main), and the whole place is just adorable.

Cute little spot for breakfast/brunch. I kept reading reviews mentioning reservations so I expected a it to be really busy and popular but it’s actually because the place is so tiny. I really enjoyed my salmon pancake and the iced tea was quite interesting. Beware the cash only!

Wow! This tiny little dollhouse of a restaurant, hidden away in a tiny alleyway packs a punch with magnificent flavors seeping from every bite. Even the bread that was severed with butter to start was so delicious. Sourdough bread with pistachios? Excellent. Every bite was a slice of heaven. The potato soup with truffle oil was so light and delicate, served in a tiny blue and white tea cup I had to close my eyes after each sip. Delightful! The homemade iced tea infused with vanilla, I could have drank an entire pitcher. We will be back for sure!

I have never ordered an egg salad sandwich in a restaurant before. The Gartine one was so very delicious with truffle oil and ham and micro greens and delicious bread that I may never order another anywhere else. I dearly hope to go back to Amsterdam some day — such a beautiful city — and go back to this lovely little restaurant that serves the food they grow in their gorgeous garden. Check out their website. There’s even a Kookboek that i can’t read, but the pictures are beautiful.

Omg! One of the most amazing breakfasts i’ve had in my entire life Their scrambled eggs were divine and so was their french toast! Their staff is really friendly and helpful and their menu has the most mouthwatering options, if in the mood to pamper your senses this is definitely the place m. Will definitely be coming here again Also do remember to call in for a reservation, they tend to get busy!

This is the cutest place ever! I had the large breakfast which you could definitely share with another person :) the French toast was so soft and yummy! The cheese they served was also probably the best cheese I’ve tasted in Amsterdam so far ~ my sister really enjoyed the croissant as well! The orange juice was freshly squeezed and very refreshing! Make sure to make a reservation before you go! I would definitely go back ~ the staff was so welcoming and the food was great! ^_^

This was my first stop in Amsterdam after getting off the plane. My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to get a table without making a reservation. But soon after we got there, it filled up quick and people were turned away at the door. We ordered the large breakfast and pancakes. Everything was so delicious, including the coffee and the chai tea that I had. The rhubarb jam was the best thing about this place. I wish I bought a jar to take home with me, but i knew I couldn’t take it on the plane :( The staff was so incredibly friendly, and they spoke English, which was a godsend for us since we didn’t know any Dutch. I honestly loved everything about this place. Definitely go to this place if you have the chance, just make sure you make reservations so you’re not turned away at the door.

Welcoming us on our first morning of our Amsterdam weekend, was brunch at Gartine! Believe the hype & the advice to MAKERESERVATIONS! They open right at 10am — not a minute beforehand & they were totally booked for the day. Luckily I’m a planner & we had rezzies but spent our morning hearing them turning away table after table w/many people completely dumbfounded how they could be booked at 10am… but they were & for good reason! Mr & I shared the Large Breakfast & it was heavenly! Croissant was flaky & buttery & they gave us 2 homemade jams to pair w/it — a raspberry which was sweet & tart & also a pineapple-mint that the Mr said was refreshing Homemade Whole Grain Bread that was the perfect mopping vehicle for the Fried Eggs — standard eggy They were also nice enough to offer a substitution of sheep’s milk cheese in place of the meat & it was creamy & buttery. We were expecting just to leave the meat off but were thrilled when the owner suggested they could do cheese instead French Toast that was custardy & sweet & when paired w/their homemade applesauce it was over the top delish! Lattes were creamy & had an okay ratio of milk to coffee but we asked for an extra shot to help us overcome the jetlag… and the extra shot was still in the«good-ratio» area of lattes. So feel free to order the standard or extra shot & you’ll be covered either way When coming back to Amsterdam, we’d definitely make sure to plan ahead & get reservations for Gartine again — do yourself a favor & do the same!

How did it take me so long to write about Gartine?! Before I get started — MUCHLOVE to the Amsterdam CM Flip W as she told us this place was a MUST and then hooked us up with a reservation. It was great to have her join us for a quick bite and chat! Walking into Gartine I was a little taken back by how small the place was! It has about 8 tables(?) total including one up top for a private experience. We took our seats and instantly my wife was raving about how«cute» this place was! At the risk of losing my man card, the word«cute» is a great description for the quaint restaurant. Although the food is fantastic(more on that soon), it’s the ambiance that will win you over The tables are a little tight, but everyone is friendly and let you slide in(or pull an extra chair up to the table) to accomodate. The plates they bring out the food on either have doilies or unique prints, and designs and well, I don’t know enough about this stuff to describe them any more than that, but I will say it added to the charm. Now, to the food. I ordered the big breakfast. It comes with: Croissant, sourdough toast, French toast, homemade jams, assorted meats(and maybe cheeses? Don’t remember.), fried egg, coffee and orange juice. Everything was delicious! The French toast was amazing. The jam was sweet and delicious and went perfect on the sourdough(and I snuck some on the croissant also!) The fried egg was a fried egg, but the coffee was really good! The juice was fresh and super good. Yes, everything on the plate was delicious — you will eat it all(or whoever you are with will help AHEM!) The staff was super friendly, greeted us with a smile and the food came out extremely fast. Great service, no rush to get us out to turn over the tables. Even with the limited amount of space they want everyone to enjoy their experience. We took our time sipping our coffee before heading out and not once did I feel rushed. If I lived in the DAM, I would be here every weekend to grab a bite.

Oh, my, god.

This teeny tiny place is perfect for breakfast, brunch, tea time! Found it randomly today: a pearl compared to the other numerous tourists addresses. Enjoy slow food dishes served in old china plates. Homemade desert was amazing(cheesecake espresso, cinnamon, speculoos) Highly recommended for a relaxing experience. Service very kind, and prices are — gosh — very reasonnable. Warning: get some cash, they do not take credit card.
