The staff were cool and helpful for us non-Dutch-speaking tourists. Food and drinks came out quickly. I had the horse meat stew which was delicious. Overall the food is probably not the best around but still a good value. The local patrons seemed to be having fun as well. I would certainly return.

Can’t go wrong with this one! Great food and surrounding! A bit noisy, but it’s all part of the fun! Our party of 6 had a great time and a happy belly!

I came here 2 separate times while visiting Amsterdam. Once for dinner and once for drinks. This place is pretty far removed from the whole tourism scene which is a huge plus. I’m pretty sure that my buddy and I were the only Americans in here both times we visited. The food was what I would consider modern gastropub. Everything that we ordered was served on a piece of wood. This restaurant also offered me the first Horse meat I had ever eaten… That’s right horse. Which we ordered«just because» and actually enjoyed. Everything else was on par with a trendy restaurant in the states. Good food, good beer, good service. A great atmosphere and the huge plus of being off the tourist track. If you are on the outer canal I highly recommend giving this spot a try

Late night pub hunt with a buddy of mine. I was here(their slogan is a Belgian pub something something) with another friend from Belgium. What to say. It’s cosy, is in the upcoming neighbourhood West. Got some mean nachos and loads of Belgian beers + local IPA from brewerij Ij. They have a rotiserie/burger next door for some good late night grub(kitchen there closes around 23-ish). If you want to spend a night with the locals, and drink some good Belgian and local beers, head over here.

The humid weather here makes me not very hungry, so I came in not thinking I was going to eat anything. I ended up trying the Croque Madame, and am so glad I did. It was perfectly cooked, and the fried egg was the best part. I thought the prices were very reasonable as well. I had a bite of some steak tartare and didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. The location is great, the food is excellent, and if I ever find myself in Amsterdam again, I’ll be back at this place for a light bite to eat.

A really cute bar with great atmosphere. I give it a 3 star instead of 4 because the food has changed since I started coming here. When I first came about a year ago the food was really good. They had a regular menu but as well during happy hour a great snack menu. They still have this but I found the food has gone downhill. Not as good as it used to be even though the menu is similar. I would go back but not I don’t have the same expectations.

Fier is one of those bars/eetcafe’s which are just perfectly fine for a drink after work, a quick bite and a Belgium beer. The guys behind the bar are always super friendly and love to joke with their customers which of course gives you a great feeling. I have eaten a lovely roats chicken here which was a lot! I give it a 3 star rating because I like the atmosphere, however compared to other eetcafe’s Fier is slightly overpriced for its food, the service on the terrace is super slow and the girls somehow always seem very cranky! It has great potential but’just isn’t there yet.

Fier is a great place because… … it’s a Belgian-Limburgish café/restaurant/bar and truly gezellig. In my case it was love at first sight. … it’s already open in the morning, so you can have breakfast or lunch there. … of the sunny terrace by the gracht, covered by 2 huge parasols. … if it’s too cold or windy but you insist on sitting outside, you can take place at one of the tables next to the windows. Underneath the sun blinds there are heaters installed, so you can sit there, warm and cozy like chicks under the infrared lamp. … they serve proper borrelhapjes. … the dinner menu is small but decent. There’s one starter plate, the choice of 7 main dishes whereof 2 are daily changing ones and 4 desserts. … the dinner desserts are a delight. Each one of us 4 was tempted by a different one and all of us were more than happy whith it(tarte tatin of pineapple and coconut ice cream, Tompouce with white chocolate and berries, lemon cheesecake with Liefmans Fruitesse forest fruit sauce, a selection of cheeses by Erik’s Delicatessen). … the staff is professional. Even if it’s full you’ll get your order within a reasonable time and the waitresses come to your table regularly to see if everything is OK.

I have been here two times so far. The first was after a wine tasting up the block for my husband’s birthday. By the time I got here, I could barely finish a beer I was so wined-up. Last week, however, was a very different story. My man and a former colleague visiting from the US needed dinner on a week night. We had been wanting to try this place out, on a Thursday. We arrived at 9:45 pm, so knew we have 15 minutes to place our order. The staff were very friendly and it was no problem we were there late. We had some really stellar food, with really nice service. The service was so good and friendly, I almost forgot I was in the Netherlands =) The music was also awesome. That evening the bartender was playing old school hip hop. A refreshing change! For a late dinner we had the following between the 3 of us. — two orders of the roasted almond soup with truffel cheese(yes, it was as good as it sounds. Really creative, full of flavor and lovely.) — we split the veggie ‘quiche’ and a salad with goat cheese, beets, etc. The ‘quiche’ was awesome. It was essentially deconstructed, with the egg and veggie cake on one area of the plate, a potato gratin on another, some veggies on the side. Really creative and flavorful. The salad was also delicous. For drinks… it is a Belgian place so we had Belgian beer… surprise, surprise. I had one of my favorites, the Rochefort 8. Yum yum yum. My man had another Belgian. All together our bill was around € 50. Not bad for a late, light dinner for 3. The rest of the menu looks really tasty. Note, their tables are all lined with foam on the underside, which is really nice, because the foam absorbs the sound. So even though there were many people, and music, etc. we could still hear ourselves clearly at the table. I love this sort of attention to detail. Also, the service was really good.

The oude west needs a good place to sit on a picnic bench to drink beers. This is it.
