This was easily one of the best restaurants we are at in Amsterdam, and a wonderful experience. We were walking around, looking for a place to eat dinner, and happen to stop to look at the menu in the window. A mother and daughter sitting near the window eating inside motioned to us and told us the food was really delicious. We ordered the 10-Mezze meal(Turkish style tapas), as well as the lamb skewer and meat ball. We split it between three adults and one toddler. It was INCREDIBLE. The woman who served us was very kind and helpful. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Amsterdam. It is really a fantastic place.

Of all the meals I’ve had in Amsterdam, I think the dinner at this little restaurant was the tastiest. We had stuffed mushrooms, baked eggplant and tomatoes, spinach and chickpeas, olives, and wine. We don’t eat meat, so I can’t comment on those dishes. The herbs, cheese, and peppers added to the fresh vegetables made everything delightful. The service was friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Absolutely great food. I had the ali nazik and my son had the kudzu tandir, which followed an eggplant(aubergine) starter. Food, service perfect. Do note: cash only, no credit cards.

A hidden gem in the center of town. Food is very nice, atmosphere is friendly, warm and welcoming and the prices are very friendly as well. Good additional thing, their kitchen is open fairly long and late for Amsterdam standards.

Divan is a great place to go to: their food is yummy and their service is welcoming and warm. We live nearby and we love to go there for a nice night out, not to fancy but always great food and service. We are very happy to have them in our neighborhood!

The mezze are okay, maybe good enough to return for once. The meat dish that I had was a little heavy and was getting boring after a few bites. Also did not find it particularly cheap.

Alan noticed this restaurant on one of his morning walks, photographed its sign w/the intent to look it up on Unilocal and TripAdvisor but never got around to it. While I was napping this afternoon he found an Indonesian rijsttafel restaurant in the neighborhood that was well rated. We walked over, only to discover it was open Thursday-Sunday. Today’s Wednesday. We debated our options and as we walked back toward the hotel he remembered Divan. Always up for Turkish food, we walked right over. We walked into an almost empty restaurant and were welcomed, seated and given menus. We ordered a cold appetizer of eggplant, yogurt and garlic and a hot appetizer of large white beans in a tomato sauce of some sort. I ordered a skewer of cubed lamb, a lamb chop and a skewer of chicken from the grill menu plus a side of pilav. Alan ordered a shepherd’s dish that was a combination of small pieces of lamb, tomato and green pepper. It came w/pilav and a salad. I ordered a glass of the house red wine, a Turkish blend of grapes and Alan ordered a Turkish beer. The appetizers were brought w/a basket of bread. We spread the eggplant and yogurt on pieces of bread and the smokiness of the first bite of it delighted my mouth. It was delicious. The beans were good but not as transcendent as the eggplant, which was the texture of a spread, although the eggplant retained some of its consistency in combination w/the yogurt. There was a bit of a wait for the mains but it was perfect, as it allowed time for the appetizers to settle. My dish arrived accompanied by small dishes of tzadziki and a tomato relish. The lamb and the chicken were both moist and tasty. The pilav was buttery and perfect. Alan’s stew was a generous portion and he enjoyed it, although it was too much for him to finish. He liked the salad, although he couldn’t tell what was in it. It looked like a cabbage slaw of some kind. Service was gracious. The restaurant was attractive, w/a full bar on the right side w/hexagonal light fixtures. On the wall were colorful scones. Their shades looked as if they were cloth. From the ceiling hung pendant lights w/metal cutout shades set w/circular multicolored glass accents. They were beautiful. By the time we left three other tables were filled. If Divan were at home, we’d be back.

Divan is a very appealing option. Very tasty Turkish cuisine, the mezze is fantastic and I am a big fan of the mixed grill. The service is very friendly and it has a cosy atmosphere. I have eaten at Divan many times and have always had a very positive experience.
