I was excited to come here due to the reviews but was disappointed. We got tucked way in the back next to the restroom. We got sat by a very rude staff but he was like that to everyone. I don’t know if they even wanted people to stay. I got the mixed ribs which was mostly dry. The beef ribs were the best but I had better ribs. I don’t even remember what my got but the mashed potatoes was really good. Probably won’t be back but I guess it’s a place to try if you’re in the area.

My wife and I went here on our honeymoon. We weren’t expecting much but ended up glad that we waited to be seated. The ribs are great and are served in generous portions. Good food and a good ambience.

Lamb Shoulder was a little more well done and charred then my liking but it was definitely good. Small restaurant, we were seated promptly and served pretty fast. The service was excellent. I think the prices are a tad higher than they should be but you are eating quality food no doubt about it.

Went here based on the Unilocal reviews. When I walked in and asked about sitting at the bar, one of the guys was pretty rude telling us no, we had to wait. No problem, but our name on the list and they told us to go to the bar across the street and they would come get us. After about 30 – 45 minutes we got a seat by the window, which wasn’t bad but felt tucked away. The rude staff member was back and acted like he was bothered by taking our order. To be fair the other two guys working there were very nice, but the one was clearly having a bad day or just was a jerk in general. We ordered the ribs and smoked chicken. The ribs were huge, but didn’t really have much meat on them and were a little tough to eat. The chicken was not much better, it was smoked, so it seemed a little dry and rubbery. Overall it was not a bad meal, but not as good as Unilocal made it sound like. The rude employee didn’t help leave a good impression either.

Good food but they don’t take reservations? I checked couldn’t find a reservation place so went by luck. There was a short wait at 7pm when I left at 9 the line was half the block. So if you can drop your name in the afternoon it would be best. Also not a place for kids so if you have young kids skip the pub, also large groups this place is really tight. There’s only one real thing on the menu ribs, mostly locals and a few tourist the line was all tourist maybe Unilocal ruined this place.

Best ribs I had. Got there at 10:30pm yesterday and was supposed to be an hour wait on the bar in front. Fortunately 15 minutes in we got called as a few others left. Sat on the bar and ordered the ribs and smoked ribs. Imo the regular ribs were much better. Loved it!

First and foremost: there’s usually a 1 – 2 hours long waiting line. They don’t take reservations so arrive there early, leave your name and grab a drink at the bar across the street. Concerning food, ribs are OK but not great. Worth the fuss? Probably not. Around 25 euro for a big main course and a beer.

We liked the atmosphere and enjoyed friendly service. Onion soup was great start but spare ribs(local special) were kind of disappointing — not juicy or seasoned enough. And prefabricated sauces that came with them weren’t worth eating. You can get better ribs elsewhere!

I would have to say that their ribs were among the best I have ever had. The Unilocal reviews for Café De Klos are not inaccurate at all! I ordered the«mixed» ribs, which consists of half slow-cooked and half smoked ribs. The regular/slow cooked ribs were very tender & delicious. The smoked ribs were a bit more chewy and seasoned/salty. In fact, the smoked ribs had a very ham-like flavor which was unusual for me but quite wonderful. I also ordered a baked potato which was truly over-kill in terms of food quantity, but it also was very delicious. Lastly, I must comment on the two sauces that were included on the rib plate. Both appeared to be mayo-based and I thought that it might not be great with ribs. I was very wrong! Both were really nice slathered on the ribs! Truly a great experience!

If you like dry pre-cooked and then warmed up meat and rude service, then you might be satisfy with this place, otherwise stay away. I have never seen so many tourists in the local place. First of all, let me tell you that Dutch people are probably the nicest people you will ever meet. I’ve been coming to Amsterdam for last 10 years few times a year and have never met a single rude Dutch guy, this place has two of them. I enter this place and see empty spot at the bar, so I try to seat there, next thing I hear is someone screaming«excuse me», so I look up and this guys is like«do you have reservation!»(I think to myself, really, this is a beat up bar and I’m seating at the bar and I need reservation), so I tell the guy, no I don’t have reservation, but I’m just seating at the bar, his reply was«Yes, you still need reservation at the bar, the only seat you don’t need reservation for is the toilet seat». Now tell me this is not rude?! Anyways, he makes me see the guy who deals with reservations and somehow this guy has a seat for me right at the beginning of the bar by the entrance, so I seat there and start looking at the menu. In the next 5 min every single person that passed by me happened to hit me since entrance is right and I’m seating right on their way. So, I see an empty spot in the middle of the bar and ask the guy if I can move, his reply was«No you can not move, you can take this seat or …» yes, he said or and made a pause… Since I was extremely hungry and was already seating, I decided not to leave and just ordered the food. My lamb shoulder arrived fairly quickly, because it was already pre-cooked and warmed up, driest lamb I’ve ever tried, and believe me, I’ve tried a lot of lamb. I have more to tell you, as I was seating by the entrance and saw every single person that entered the place and was told that it’s an hour wait and then they were sent to a bar across the street to wait. But someone’s several people that happen to enter at the time other people were leaving, got to seat right away. This place is an arrogant mess with a bad food. Just stay away. One last thing, look at all the good 5 star reviews and lol at the carefully! Yes, they are all fake. Then look at bad review and you will see everyone is talking about the same exact thing, rude service and OK food.

This review was almost a lot less than 5 stars and I’ll tell you why. We are tourists in this city and the worse thing for tourists to experience is poor hospitality. When we arrived there was a 1 hour wait. Very normal we were used to waiting for good restaurants. We were told that we had to wait outside or by the bar. When asked of we could walk around for 15 minutes we got a very abrupt and annoyed response of «I only check outside and the bar one time, if you are not there i don’t ask again.» OUCH! I explained we would only be gone for 15 minutes and if he was possibly going to call us by then. Anyway we lingered around a few shops near by and finally got called an hour later for a seat. We were told it was by the bar and we asked if we could wait for a table. We were then given another annoyed response of how we were messing up the seating arrangements. After the person thought about it we got a response of, «all I have is seats by the bar. I can’t give you a table.» Another ouch! Once we got it I saw that the place is very tight and most of the tables accommodate parties of 4 or better so I had a little more empathy. Besides that the gentleman came by and apologized for not seating us where we wanted. On to the good stuff! I ordered the lamb shoulder and my wife ordered the spare ribs. We got a baked potatoe to share. We were a bit skeptical about the baked potatoe since most generally are bland and not tasty. This one came with a garlic sauce. I have to say the food was DELICIOUS. The lamb was a large portion and really good. The baked potatoe was also awesome. The food really changed by opinion of this place.

Lecker! Sehr einfach eingerichtet, aber dafür Riesengrill und dazu gutes Fleisch! Das Personal war wirklich sympathisch und funny! Lammschulter«nur» 28 € und wirklich GUT! Spareribs waren so gut, dass man noch einen kräftigen Schweingeschmack im Mund hatte! Ich bin eher ein Freund von BBQ Sauce … Am besten vor dem Essengehen noch nen Abstecher ins Happy Feelings machen und sich einen Anreger für das Essen gönnen… Empfehlenswert!

Wow! The best pork ribs I’ve had outside of Texas, and my own smoker(humble brag). We had the mixed smoked and regular ribs with a baked potato on the side. The portions were very generous for both. You also get a cole slaw salad included. Be warned — the quality of this place is well know and the restaurant is small. If you want a table(or spot at the bar) either go early or be prepared to wait. You can have drinks at the bar across the street, so it’s not all bad. The owners were very friendly and welcoming with a nice sense of humor. Just be sure to say hello when you enter!

If you are craving the meat and potato, this is a place to be! Do not miss it! 1) have a light lunch or late breakfast and make sure you are there early, say 4:30pm! There were a line up when we got there at 3:50pm. 2) Many order the prime ribs. 16 Euro. If you are not hungry, share one with the bake potato(yum)! however, one order per person for any main is so worth it!

Great little place with great ribs. I was hesitant to come here as we’re from Texas but was not disappointed. This place is pretty small do be ready to wait or you can sit at the bar benches and order food there. Tip: try sharing a plate it’s so much food, however they will charge you € 6 for sharing.

If is not the best, is in the top 5 places to get ribs in Amsterdam. In my case I prefer the normal ribs than the smokey ones, but depends of taste. The smoky ribs are more dry and salty. The portions are huge, so be careful to order too much, don’t include potato on your ribs order unless you have a big appetite. Another great option here is the lamb or the onion soup, tried it. Probably you need to wait at least 30 minutes in the bar in front, but is completely worthed. The service is also really friendly, great place to go with some friends and enjoy a great night.

It’s dark, it’s smoky, it’s fat, it’s delicious. Publicly recognized as «the best ribs in Amsterdam», it’s as difficult to eat here as it would be in michelin star restaurant. Apart from the fact they don’t take reservation. So come here early, or be prepared to stay on the waiting list for at least one hour. Considering that eating here is worth six hours or more of waiting, it’s still a pretty good deal! You have a couple of tables at the border, but the main table is just the counter around the bar, run by two awesome guys. You just take a sit, order a beer and most important order food! ribs, lamb, a couple of other dishes. That’s it. And that’s what you need, nothing more. As our first journey we wanted to test the«signature dish», Mixed BBQ ribs with hollaindese sauce for me and lamb chops for my lady and jacket potatoes for both. What can we say, we are nowhere experts in BBQ ribs, but we know one thing for sure: they were bloody delicious! I’ll leave the technical details to fellow american Unilocalers, I’m just happy to give to this place the top vote and definitely pin it on my map, next time we’ll be in Amsterdam we’ll surely be back here!

Though the wait was long the staff made my partner and myself feel welcome. We are big cocktail fans so he was making new cocktails for us while we waited which went down a treat. The wait altogether was about an hour and a half but it felt much quicker. We were then taken back to the restaurant and swayed and believe me it is the best meat you will ever eat. The spare ribs fell of the bone. So did he lamb shoulder. Honestly the best wait in the world! It is definitely worth the long wait do not be discourage. And the staff are constantly checking up on you to see if you enjoy it

It’s true what they say: the best ribs in Amsterdam. I recommend the spare ribs for a first try out, I find them better than the smoked ones. I would also suggest to go there before you are hungry(1hbefore) and sign up for a table, the bar where they send you to wait it’s super nice. For the bar places the line goes faster but I like sitting at a table, enjoying my space and my ribs. I wouldn’t know any other details about the place except that those are really good ribs and I only go for them. The salad, the sauces and the potato are the yummy bonus :)

This place is hot fire. Spare ribs are the best I’ve ever had in my life. They literally fall off the bone. The smoked are way tougher and not as good IMO. I’m also American for what that’s worth. Definitely had my fair share of BBQ. If there’s a wait you have a beer in the bar across the street and they come grab you(and your beer) when you’re ready. Go here now.

Had the lamb shoulder due to the recommendation by a friend, and it was one of the most massive pieces of meat I had ever seen — that explains the price tag(29EUR), but worth every cent. You can’t really make a reservation, but you just leave your name at the restaurant and then wait at the bar next door(same owner) where they pick you up once your spot at the bar or table is ready. I was there with my girl-friend and the wait time on the Sunday evening was about 30min. For real, meat lovers.

Spareribs. Get the spareribs. It’s a gigantic serving piled high. Meat fell off the bone. This was definitely the most protein packed meal we had on our trip. Was recommended to go here by a local and it was totally worth it. No reservations, so get there early. Not good for large groups. I also enjoyed the french onion soup and found it better than any of the soup I came across in Paris. Paying cash is cheaper than by plastic

I think I came in here expecting something else, which was good olé fashioned-smoked american ribs slathered in tangy BBQ sauce. Well, this wasn’t it. It’s actually everything I stated above sans the BBQ sauce. Instead they serve it with Hollandaise sauce as well as a side of Hollandaise«bbq» sauce… which is basically Hollandiase with a little bit of ketchup(I think). The ribs were definitely smoked well and the meat was a bit leaner than what I’m used to so they don’t fall of the bone. Also, they provide you a MASSIVE amount of food for the price so if you order the mixed ribs plate, it is more than enough for two. We also tried the french onion soup, which turned out to be better than what we had in france, and the tomato bisque soup, which was decent. TIP: For a party of 2, don’t be put off if the host tells you there is a two hour wait. He’s completely overestimating in order to weed out the curious people walking in that don’t want to commit. Simply head over to their bar right across the street and he’ll come grab you in 45 minutes tops. 4 stars.

MEATMEATMEATMEAT! That’s all they serve here… oh, also a potato if you wish! Amsterdam seems to have a thing for ribs, but this is seriously THE place to get them in town — avoid the tourist traps that offer unlimited ribs and patiently wait for a table at Café De Klos instead. They serve two kinds: original and smoked — they’re both great, a little salty, and some people will prefer one over the other, but honestly I ended up loving original more one time and smoked the other, so really it must be dependent on what type of mood you’re in that night. The lamb shoulder is also excellent and HUGE. The only negative about this place is that there are too few side options besides a baked potato, and the ribs are served with a «salad» but it’s really just cole slaw. I love the meat here but could do with some more veggies or fries even to break things up a bit. They don’t take reservations but if you know you’re doing this on a particular night, put your name down and they’ll tell you to take a seat at the bar across the street and will call you when they have a table. Usually, a wait of an hour or more is quoted but you’ll find yourself seated faster.

I’m so happy that we walked 20 minutes and tried this hole in the wall BBQ Gastro pub! The beers were superb! «De Manke Monnik» was the bomb! Waiters are so entertaining and sweet! Love these Amsterdam peeps! We tried the escargot, French onion soup, and the mixed rib plate… all superb and well worth the wait to sit and enjoy a great meal!

Visit Amsterdam and goto a rib place? Well, we were hungry, it was highly rated and nearby so we went. The place was busy. Good mix of tourists and locals. Price was decent. We had a mixed order of smoked ribs and regular ribs. I think we preferred the regular ribs, but they were both really nice. The portion size was large so me and my wife split a plate. Draft selection was kind of meh unless you love Amstel. I’m not sure I like the ribs better than some of the places I’ve been in the US, but they were definitely good. It’s just a nice informal place to go, and if you want some meat in Amsterdam, honestly, this is probably a decent choice. It’s right in the main touristy area of Amsterdam. I think we walked here from near the Anne Frank house. It’s all so close together.

Endroit de folie, accueil de folie! J’ai habité quelques temps à Amsterdam et le Café De Klos est vite devenu mon QG. D’abord parce qu’ils ont des ribs, aussi bons que ceux que j’ai mangé à Houston, les prix sont si peu chers qu’on peut se permette d’y aller tous les jours si on veut.(Sauf quand on fait un régime, ou quand on fait du sport, je n’irais plus tous les jours maintenant: D) Endroit merveilleux à la lumière tamisée. Une ambiance de cantine se mêle, aux costards cravates qui sortent du travail. Sachez juste une chose, les Français n’ont pas une très belle réputation à Amsterdam, pas besoin de vous dire pourquoi. Il se peut donc que le serveur se ferme un peu quand il découvre que vous être de l’autre coté des frontières. Alors soyez souriants, et sympathiques ils finiront par se détendre et deviendront vos meilleurs amis: D

Where to start? The staff were absolutely brilliant. The place has a great atmosphere, very intimate and relaxed. The wait time for a table was pretty long, so we were all sent to the bar across the street, and once a table was available we were collected from the bar. The servings are huge, and the ribs are absolutely spot on. I recommend the smoked ribs, as the meat literally falls of the bone. The baked potato side was also brilliant. The staff were making jokes and starting conversations, and as soon as our food arrived, the left us alone(other than to make sure the food was satisfactory) which was great. I wish we’d discovered this place before our last night as I would’ve loved to return. 10⁄10

Première fois pour goûter leurs fameux Ribs, un peu déçu par la qualité de la viande très grasse, les Ribs sont fumés en salaison, donc très salé et un peu sec. La pomme de terre est cuite sous alu, coupé en deux et recouverte de beurre à l’ail et à la ciboulette… Par contre le cadre est très sympa, tout en bois, petit, le bar prend presque toute la salle. Le service est au taquet car ça débite. Le restaurant doit être dans plusieurs guide touristique au vu de la clientèle. Un clin d’œil à la bistronomie française… Dommage pour leur«baguette française» est clairement industrielle. Hélas un peu cher juste pour le cadre, il y a mieux et tout aussi«typique» pour le même prix.

Best cheese plate of my entire trip. Maybe it is a little cliched, but I wanted to eat everything that normally has the word dutch in it. Dutch cheese, dutch chocolate, dutch apple pie, etc. Cheese is one of my favorite things in the world(yes even above chocolate and apple pie, blasphemous I know), so I would routinely order cheese plates wherever I went. I cannot tell you what cheese was on this cheese plate, other than there was a brie of some kind, blue cheese, and a sharp cheddar. What I can tell you, is it was the perfect temperature, warm enough that it was slightly gooey, and delicious. Even the random coleslaw in the middle was impeccable. We came at about 10 p.m. on a weekday, so probably not your average time. It was warm inside, like most cafes in Amsterdam, but the tables outside were already taken. Even though they were close to closing, we never felt rushed. It was dark inside, but in a rustic way. I really enjoyed this meal and I wish we had enough time to come back again.

Incredibly long 2 hour wait at 7 p.m. on a Saturday, but the spare ribs are indeed and truly delicious. The meat falls off the bone while also retaining its shape, and the seasoning is spot on; neither too salty or too one-dimensional. Go! Wait! Eat! Have some excellent fruit granjenevers at the bar while you toil and starve. Skip the super expensive and very cloying«French Cheese.»(lit. name on menu)

Rockmusik, schummriges Licht, Holz als Fußboden und an den Wänden, hinter einem Tresen eine offene Küche, in der offenbar nur Fleisch auf einen Grill geworfen wird. Dann in der Raummitte der Haupttresen, an dem man sich niederlässt und Bier sowie(hoffentlich) Fleisch bestellt. Vereinzelte Tische und Stehplätze an den Wänden gibt es auch. Und das ist gut so, denn die Kneipe mit integriertem Grill ist gut gefüllt. Die meisten bestellen die Spare Ribs. Für 16 – 18 Euro(smoked oder standard) gibt es eine ordentliche Portion davon mit etwas KrautsaRlat und zwei feisten Soßen(Cocktail und Knoblauch-Kräuter). AN den normalen ibs schien mir deutlich mehr Fleisch am Knochen zu sein, doch auch von den Smoked Ribs wird Mann satt, wenn man etwas von dem frischen Weißbrot dazu isst, das es als Beilage gibt. Es gibt 3 Biete vom Fass, wovon eines ein nicht zu bananiges Hefe und eines das Standard Amstel-Pils ist. Ein drittes Fassbier wechselt alle paar Tage. Das Bier geht also in Ordnung, die Ribs sind klasse. Die rockige Musik macht Laune und alle dies stimmt gut auf den Rest des Abends ein. Diese Mischung führt sogar Fraun unterschiedlichen Alters in diesen Laden, den ich eher für einen reinen Männerschuppen gehalten hätte. So kann man sich täuschen.

Je né suis pas une personne qui aime beaucoup la viande et pourtant je me souviendrai toujours de ces délicieuses ribs ! La première bouchée vous laisse sur le cul. Vous pouvez demander en accompagnement une pomme de terre cuite dans du beurre à l’ail, cest sensationnel également ! Mon seul regret a été de né pas pouvoir tout finir parce que le plat était copieux !

Nettes, uriges kleines Steakhaus. Wartezeit muss man einkalkulieren. Man kann dann aber gegenüber in einer kleinen urigen Bar warten und dort auch schonmal seine Bestellung aufgeben. Dort wird man dann auch vom Kellner abgeholt, wenn die Plätze frei sind. Die Spare Ribs sind der Hammer. Besonders die gerookten. Wir hatten auch ein Steak. War wunderbar zart. Für zwei Personen haben wir inkl je einem Getränk so um die 50 € bezahlt. Hat sich auf jeden Fall gelohnt!
