Café Carbon

Not sure why Café Carbon gets such a bum rap. Visited twice during busy dinner hours, and received excellent service. Pro tip: make reservations to avoid the wait.
If you’re looking for steak done right, you can’t go wrong wth Café Carbon. Ordered the Lady Steak (medium rare), and they’ve come out perfect each time. Great sear, but once you cut through… like butter. Melts in your mouth that you really don’t need anything more than salt and pepper. Though chimichurri sauce is a nice touch. Their ribs are equally fantastic. Beautifully caramelized, sticky, and juicy.
I wish their sides would equal the beauty of their mains. Cole slaw was creamy, yes, but too acidic. Lighten up on the vinegar, yeah? Fries were good, but nothing mind-​blowing.
Fantastic steak and ribs. Average sides. And delicious desserts. Lady Steak, Gents Steak, Ribs, bottle of house red wine, bitterballen, fries, coleslaw, and sticky toffee… all for less than 100 €? I’m in.

Great place if you are a young male wanting to go out with some friends for a beer and loads of meat. The place is over-​crowded on weekend evenings.
However, if you like a healthy meal with a conversation and some personal space, go somewhere else. There are plenty better value-​for-​money places on the van Woustraat (e.g. Pekelharing, Stadskantine, Spaghetteria).
Customer service was below par. We left within 10 minutes after arrival.
Tip:
— Reserve well in time. They keep tables reserved until 22pm in the evening.
— Have a look at the pavement in front of the building. You will see small copper plates commemorating the jewish families that passed away in the second worldwar.

These meat lovers come forth restaurants are taking over the neighbourhood but I’m not complaining! I promise!
On a clear but chilly Friday evening, when we finally got to the restaurant (with no booking) we got delegated to the bar for both, food and drinks. but how much room does one need to eats the meats?
Thankfully, you get very territorial with the foods so space is not an issue! We wanted cocktails but sadly, because of how busy they are, they only offer whatever is on the board. So no fancy cocktails here kids! However their meats, oh their meats! We got ribs and steak and whilst we waited, watched with a keen eye the orders that came before ours. If our eyes could drool, they would have!
The rack of ribs was ginormous, smokey, sticky and cooked to perfect! The steak? It was good but eh, if you eff up a steak in a place like this, many would ask what you were doing in the meat biz!
All in all, another good addition to the hood! Just be sure to make a booking before you get there or you might need to wait and who wants that on a Friday night?

It is a great place! The menu is full of meat. Customer service is amazing, really willing to help you!
I’m from Argentina. But I had a great quality Irish beef!!! Highly recommended, with groups or few friends is great!
Not easy to get a place even if you do a reservation on Friday night.
A bit expensive for me, but quality deserve it.
You can choose between 6 or 8 different meat dishes. Not much but good enough.
The place is cozy and well located in De Pijp. Specially if you live in Amsterdam the place take you out of the students bars or tourists!
The big Surprise was the desert. We choose cheese cake. It was lovely, served with lemon ice-​cream and whipped cream. Coffee can be better!
Give it a try and enjoy your beef!

Well they finally gutted what used to be a disgusting drinking hole for people of the less savoury variety… We were very pleased to see Carbon pop up in our neighbourhood!
We finally got around to eating here. The overall look and feel of the place leave a good impression. Our service was good so either we caught them at a good time or they’ve taken some of the earlier reviews to heart!
Food was generally good-​I had a mushroom starter which was lovely and plentiful. The steak was quality, if a bit under done (was still mooing and I asked for medium). Where this place lets it down is the side dishes. Fries and coleslaw are your options. Fries, standard, nothing to see here. I could only describe the coleslaw as trans-​styled. It couldn’t decide if it wanted to be creamy or vinegary so you just ended up with what seemed like watery, vinegary coleslaw, where someone accidentally dropped a dollop of Mayo so they decided to just mix it together.
This place has loads of potential but I need sexy sides to go with my sexy steak.

Came here with my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday. He’s a ‘MEAT PLEASE’ kinda guy so thought this would be the perfect place to go to.
Funny décor and relaxed feel to the place. We ordered ½ chicken and spare ribs (both not on the standard menu but specials) and fries to share. I’m not a big fan of ½ or whole chicken as I don’t really like ‘seeing’ what I’m eating (sounds weird I know) but this one didn’t look too disturbing and I had some spicy tender bites. The ribs were good but could have been more juicy and soft. Nice taste though and some good fries to go with them.
We loved the crème brûlée, the music — great playlist! — and my Belgian Tripel beer (be careful with those) really complemented the food and atmosphere
