Bordewijk

To give this restaurant one star is a gift. I visited last evening with 2 friends having very high expectations. We were given2 terrible bottles of wine, and then rudely questioned about our understanding of «good wine». We decided that the condescending manager, arrogant chef and staff did not deserve one more dime. We paid for and abandoned our 1^st and 2^nd bottles of wine, which they corked and refrigerated to serve to another unlucky patron. I would NEVER recommend this restaurant and feel that their only good attribute was the sweet female waitress. This is an unwelcoming and frankly hostile venue!!! Definitely not worthy of the beautiful city of Amsterdam.

It was 24 years ago when I came here for the first time. The name, playfully written as if it was a string of bunting, combined with the wavy grass wall made it look more like a crèche than a restaurant. But nothing could be further from the truth. The food was excellent, the service was respectful but low key and the chairs offer the utmost comfort.
I’ve returned to this restaurant many times over the years and spent long evenings relaxing in those comfortable chairs, enjoying great food, great conversation and feeling very spoilt. I invariably choose a three or four course menu, which changes daily. It’s a nice way to try something I might not have chosen from the a la carte menu.
I was here again very recently. Fortunately nothing has changed.
If I were to make one criticism it is that the house red wine is meant as an aperatif and is not really suited to any of the dishes.

I know this may not be a review many people agree with but this place disappointed me a little.
The prices are a little steep but its worth it for the food, which was great! Also, they keep updating their menu so thats good too.
What didn’t work for me was the ambience. Its too sterile and un-​cozy (if I may). The service was okay but could have been a little more friendly.
The white walls, the bright lighting just was too fallow and effete for my taste. And somehow everybody on my table felt that it was extremely noisy. We couldn’t speak to each other comfortably.
I dont think I will be going back here but please don’t get me wrong — this place is great for a grown up evening with good food — Just not my style.

Un restaurant très bon
Le restaurant le plus fréquenté d’Amsterdam est le Bordewijk, ce restaurant donne sur le jardin de Noorderkerke. La carte est très bien fournie et bien variée, on trouve de la cuisine française, asiatique ou encore italienne. En dessert je vous conseille la tarte tatin, vraiment extra. Julien
