We had a business dinner here on our last night in Europe and had a wonderful experience. This hotel has it all — ambiance, great food and a charming staff. It felt like a very authentic Dutch experience with a little extra fancy thrown in. I will definitely return next time I am in Amsterdam.

Delicious! We happen to have tried majority of the menu and I can definitely say that scallops with champagne sauce were by far a winner. Another highlight was marshmallow’ed crab starter. At the same time, my sister loved the fish of the day(plaice) and mom enjoyed her duck breast, however the side of barley & root vegetables ruined it a little bit. The place is small, yet had a lot of old Amsterdam character to it. The service was super friendly but not annoyingly so. What surprised me is the lack of locals, but perhaps that’s due to the place being in heart of touristy bit of the city.

Family of 4 had a dinner here tonight, and we ordered two bottles of wine and shared three starters among us: Starters: — North Sea Crab — Smoked Eel — Tame Rabbit Mains: — Fish of the day — Scallops — Duck breast — Venison — Cheese course and three glasses of port We *LOVED* everything. We decided that pre-fix menu doesn’t give us everything we wanted to try, and wine pairing is not important to us. So opted out for more freedom in choice. I feel sorry that I did not snap any more pictures. I wanted to share my experience with you guys. Service was appropriate. I left very happy. Bill was 330 Euro with tip.

I can’t say enough good things about this restaurant. It has everything you could want — it is high end without being pretentious, the wait staff is amazing, the ambiance is wonderful, and the food is out of control delicious. I don’t even know what I ate half the time, but it made me wish I had ordered all 6 courses instead of the 4 that I did order. Let’s start with the setting — set in an old Mayor’s house(whose last name was Spiegel), it is small, intimate, and well appointed. We got the whole story about the house from the waiter, which helped us feel like this was more than just a meal, it was an experience. And now for the place settings — they were amazing. I felt like I was eating off plates that kings used — real silver silverware, gorgeous napkin rings, beautiful plates. I loved it! The food, overall, was one of the best meals I had during my stay in Amsterdam. Just listen to me and get all the courses, with the wine pairings. I know it seems expensive, but it will be worth every penny. My husband only got three courses while I got four, and he was green with envy when my extra plate came out. They keep the wine pouring, and make you feel welcome. We sat there for easily 2+ hours, got to meet the chef, and made friends with the table next to us. And the dessert, amazing! Get the apple soufflé, you won’t regret it. Overall, if I could give them 6 stars I would! I will be coming back on my next trip to Amsterdam.

Classic cuisine prepared with a historical homage to time honored tradition and technique with just a touch of current embellishments. Just enough to make it fresh, but not so much as to hide the classic foundation. Interestingly, the first courses were familiar, like comfort food whipped up by mom but presented creatively deconstructed. There’s a theme here that begins with the the familiar and then elevates you gently to each new dish, to the perfectly executed classics. Our only regret, it was apparent the timing got off to a bad start in the kitchen and never came under control. And the service swung back and forth from friendly and comfortable to pretentious and stiff. Made for an awkward evening, however we did enjoy our 6 course meal and wine pairing.

This was a perfect end to our trip to Amsterdam. The food, service and ambiance was a perfect 10. Food pairing menu brought out the skills and creatively of the chef. Make reservations because you would not want to miss this experience,

We just had the most lovely time at this restaurant last week. The owner was so gracious, showing us around this beautiful place, and the food and wine could not have been better. When in Amsterdam this place is a must!

We really enjoyed this restaurant. The service was excellent as was the food. The server suggested wine and we couldn’t have enjoyed it more. I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone interested in trying traditional Dutch cooking.

Recommended by our Hotel, the Victoria — This is a MUST go to restaurant if u want authentic food from Amsterdam. Many would tell u that the local food is not worth trying, but this place uses ONLY dutch ingredients… proteins to veggies — high class, top notch. It’s not cheap, but what good places are. Harry(Harri) was the host/server and is just perfect. Though just the manager, he treats the place as if he is welcoming u to his own home. The food was 5 star to the last bite. Service and ambiance PERFECT. Words do not explain how much my wife and I enjoyed our 2 hour meal. DONOTRUSH, save room for coffee and dessert.

This is a good place to eat if you have 1) a lot of time to really enjoy a meal 2) a decent expense account 3) a desire for traditional Dutch food. Located across the street from the Crown Plaza, the restaurant is housed in one of Amsterdam’s oldest buildings(former residence of the mayor I believe). The wine list is pretty good and compliments the food well. The service is attentive but not too intrusive. Go with a few business colleagues, order the 4 course meal and a couple of bottles of wine and you can time warp back into 19th Century Amsterdam. I probably won’t go again due to QPR but certainly worth a visit for those of us lucky enough to get to ‘Dam on a regular basis.

Delicious food, and exquisitely charming location. However, the staff was really quite surprisingly rude — they conveyed the impression that we were inconveniencing them by eating there. Their attitudes really took away from the charm of the experience.

You can’t miss this place when you walk by. Being one of the oldest establishments in Amsterdam, you can also tell from the fact that the building is literally leaning forward! To sum it up, its traditional Dutch food served fine-dining style. Great wine selection and very fresh food– well prepared. The service was what you’d expect from a fine-dining experience… top notch. Be aware, the place is small, so reservations are recommended. Its also best to call on a weeknight to make sure they are open, as most places in Amsterdam will close early on slow nights.

A place of amazing history, character and pretty fine food too. I spent a lot of time working in Amsterdam. Between staying at the Crown Plaza and Renaissance, it was hard not to be enchanted by the location. I saved up my meal money to eat the 5 course menu with matched wines. A coworker asked about going dinner and when I told him what I was doing, he said«why not». We sat outside and it was a much better meal than dining alone. We also added some jenever to start. It was a perfect evening for the location and service. The food was very good. Generally, fine dining in Amsterdam is like fine dining was in the 80’s in the more well known food centers of the US and Western Europe. De Silveren Spiegel is kind of caught up in the same time warp. That said, the ingredients are very good and the food is well prepared. It’s expensive, but not out of line for what you get. I recently came back and brought my wife. We dined indoors and had the 4 course meal. It was a very nice evening and my wife put it at the top of the dining we had in Amsterdam.

I found this place on accident one night while looking around Amsterdam. This is one of the oldest restaurants in Amsterdam. The name means«The Silver Mirror» and from the outside it looks like the whole thing will sink into the Earth at any moment. On the inside it is gloriously preserved. It looks like a clean, glowing representation of the past. The waiters were extremely prompt and had amazing service. I ate there a long time ago, but it left a big impression on me. I remember having mustard soup served in a small little pot with a lid. I loved the presentation, and the taste was amazing. I like mustard soup. Who knew? At the end of the meal we had coffee which was served with several rich chocolates. From start to finish this place was worth every penny. Don’t spend all of your stay in Amsterdam visiting«Coffee Shops». Come here!
