Finch Cafe

Anybody who says this place doesn’t have the best food in the neighborhood, they are crazy. It’s cool, creative ingredients that are delicious. A definite must try.
Ps. Recommend the pork tacos for men, and the quinoa salad for the ladies.

Que de coups de cœur en un week-​end à Amsterdam ! Et cette adresse en fait partie.
Situé en plein cœur de l’un des plus beaux quartiers d’Amsterdam, Jordaan, le Finch Café fait office à la fois de bar et de restaurant. La clientèle oscille entre 25 et 45 ans et regroupe les bobos du quartier. Il faut aimer mais je m’y suis vraiment sentie bien. Le barman et les serveuses sont vraiment sympas. Leur gin tonic à tomber. Leur thé à la menthe (feuilles de menthe dans de l’eau chaude servi avec du miel et un petit gâteau) très agréable.
Et le gros plus qui fait que j’ai vraiment adoré: on peut grignoter (enfin manger vu la qualité de ce qui est proposé) plein de choses différentes en même temps que l’on boit un verre (jusqu’à 22 h). Nous avons donc «dîné» là-​bas, installés au comptoir (vous pouvez également commander tout ça en étant installés à table). Pour notre part, nous avons opté pour une pizza ricotta/​épinards/​mozzarella/​parmesan sur une base de pain libanais (7 € 50) et une assiette de mezze avec différents houmous, pain pita, falafels, tomates rôties et roquette (12 € 50). Pour de la «nourriture de bar», c’était vraiment excellent. Et il y a autant de propositions végés que carnées, bon point donc !
A partir de 22 h, la lumière se tamise, la musique augmente (on a entendu quelques sons hip hop/r’n’b un peu old school, vraiment très sympas) et on né peut plus commander qu’à boire.
Bref, nous avons passé une super soirée dans un quartier hyper mignon. Je né peux donc que vous recommander cette adresse !

Visiting Amsterdam from US for an extended weekend prior to business in Germany. I happened on this place after reading a good review of the neighborhood — Jordaan) and for the place next door — Proust. It was a Sunday night so relatively quiet. Proust was empty but Finch seemed lively so I went there instead. From the moment I walked in I felt welcome and soon felt like I was a regular — talking and joking with the real regulars and the staff. I travel a lot on my job and my favorite travel experience is getting to know about a place by mingling with the «natives». The food was very good (I had Peking Duck and a Pizza — both recommended by the lovely bartender — Maren (?). She spoke English with an almost American accent /​attitude and was just like some of the best bartenders I’ve known in NY area (I’m originally from Long Island). Apropos of the photos of Schwarzenegger on the walls, «I’ll be back».

We stumbled upon this café while exploring the lanes of Jordaan, what a little gem it was!
We loved this café so much we went back a second time the day after! Their breakfast menu is to die for!
The service is pretty poor and laid back but don’t let that put you off as their food is DELICIOUS! Great value for money, healthy and generously sized!

One of the most popular bars in the Jordaan area. There are few seats outsides, but in the afternoon/​evening the place is always crowded, so it’s almost impossible to find a free table. Most people simply stand outside in front of the bar while chatting and drinking.

Nice, cosy café where you can also eat quite good.
Finch is mainly visited by trendy, good looking regulars, and is a good pickup-​place for people around 30.
Packed on Friday and Saturday evenings…
