Being an avid fan of everything spicy, I was excited to give Xiao Fei Yang a try when I got to know about their famous Mah Lat soup. However, I was disappointed with the quality of the food and I find it overrated. The quality of any steamboat is solely dependent on the taste of the soup, because the ingredients are raw and unseasoned, hence do not contribute to the taste at all. While the soup is fragrant, there really isn’t much ‘kick’ to it. I also felt really thirsty afterwards. However, it is worth pointing out that the ingredients used are really fresh, including the vegetables and meats like fish and mutton slices. An average place, in my opinion.

Xiao fei yang actually means fatty little goat. It was a new addition not to long ago at damansara uptown and it’s very visible because it’s facing Sprint Highway. My friends and I decided to try out this place one night and it was very packed on a weekday. Business is really good and the ambient noise can be quite loud because of that. They have a few type of soup offerings for your steamboat and we took the normal and spicy selection. There’s a lot of choices of meat, vegetable and mushroom and tofu. The thin slice beef and pork is a real delight to eat. But with their good quality of food I still don’t find myself frequent the place because their price is really steep as compared to other steamboat restaurants.

Xiao Fei Yang is the best steamboat place ever! Once you have had steamboat here you won’t wanna have steamboat anywhere else, trust me on this. This place is not your regular steamboat restaurant, they dont serve the usual chicken soup, or tomyam. Their soup here is so amazingly delicious, i dont even know where to start. Its full of garlic, spices and herbs that makes it so delicious and it really warms your body. They also have a spicy soup which is super spicy. In my personal opinion the regular soup is better cause the spicy one is so spicy that you cant really enjoy the tauhu or meat or quail eggs. I would definitely prefer the regular soup. Prices are okay too. Of course depending on what you order. The best thing about this place is that you get a big whiff of the soup the minute you walk into the restaurant and it just gets your tummy grumbling. Also parking here is ample so no worries about that.

I love pepper. Pepper on my meat? Yes please. Pepper on my vegetables? Yes please. Pepper on everything and anything on the dish? Yes. While I may swear to the heavens above that everything tasted quite literally like pepper, we can all agree to disagree that Xiao Fei Yang offers the best of all peppery dishes. With its soups being the main selling point apart from the lamb related dishes, I can safely say that if you do not choke to the soups, it means that you will enjoy pretty much any delicacy it offers on the menu. However, despite that, the price itself is staggeringly expensive, and is not the best of places to go if you want to enjoy stuffing pepper into your face indirectly. Just a heads up, but otherwise, it is the place to go… If you love pepper. And oh, the lamb. I mean if you love the lamb too. Oops. I guess there’s just too much pepper.

Ever since I had Mongolian steamboat in Melbourne, I have been hunting for a decent one inKlang Valley area. I was introduced to Xiao Fei Yang Restaurant by my best friend, and both of us went to to try it out. It’s quite easy to spot the restaurant as it’s facing the Spring highway. If you are coming from Eastin Hotel, the restaurant is on your right. It’s no news that Damansara Utama has major parking issues but it’s very convenient to get a parking after working hours. The meat selections were a must to order, especially the lamb. If you love your lamb to be gamey then you’ll definitely love theirs! We opted for the«Yuan Yang» soup, whereby we’ll get to try both herbal and spicy soup at the same time. I would recommend to do this — if the soup gets too spicy you have the herbal options to cool you down, and you can go for the spicy ones to kick up that appetite of yours. They were very generous with the ingredients added into the soup, hence you can see lots of herbal floating on the soup. As for the pricing, it wasn’t cheap. Your total bill for 2 person could easily be more than RM100. Despite the pricing, it was a pleasant experience. The selections were fresh, and although the spicy soup gave us «tears & sweat», but it was totally worth it!
