Located a few steps away from Standing Theory, Wang Chiew is a famous among the locals establishment that serves Indonesian, Nyonya and Thai style seafood. It’s so popular with the locals that it seems like no matter which evening you go, is usually packed with families. And boy is parking a challenge! You need to get there early as by 7.30pm — 8.00pm the place is usually filled to full house. We had the Steamed Nyonya Curry Tilapia(RM30.00 medium size) which was a house specialty. The fish was fresh, the curry good. Before dinner had ended we were already swirling the bowl still seeking for scraps of meat. We also had the Indonesian Seafood Curry Tofu(RM20.00 medium size), which is simply a burst of flavors dripping in fragrant coconut milk curry. A quick dip or two with a spoon revealed the dish contained squid, fish, shrimp, dried shrimp, two types of tofu and a soft layer of steam egg at the bottom. Our third dish was the Pan Seared Black Pepper Beef(RM20.00 medium size). It was quite good, but the whole time I was pondering if it was indeed beef or deer due to the oddly chewy though not quite texture of the meat, therefore distracting me from actually tasting it properly. The must have is the Deep Fried Butter Octopus(RM20.00 — medium size), which we order every time. It is sweet caramelized butter crunch outside, and soft, slightly chewy meat inside. The dried curry leaves brings out a fragrant taste so tantalizing you must have another bite, and another, and another. The food portion to price ratio is very reasonable, as most medium plates are hardly above RM20.00 unless its house specialties like certain fish dishes or crab. Service times is quite fast too, in less than 15 minutes all our orders were on the table. I suppose they have to be to cater for the high turnover of customers. However drinks can be quite difficult to order as the drinks waiters are constantly moving to attend to orders. A tip would be to pre-order additional drinks especially if you know your party has a tendency towards 2nd drinks.

This little tuck in place is actually located at the same row as standing theory. The road is very dark at night and not much street lights. It doesn’t help that the two way road is alike a one way road and it’s hard to maneuver when there is a car coming from the opposite direction. The restaurant has plenty of tables outdoor so you don’t have to worry about that. The whole row of shops is pretty much like a dead town aside from standing theory so parking isn’t too much of a problem. I ordered the dried chilli chicken and omelette which was pretty good. However they apparently charge according to the number of pax. Although written in the menu that the chicken was Rm7.50, it came out to be Rm15 since there was two of us eating. This made it not as cheap as I thought it would be as I didn’t know there was a different pricing base on number of pax.

Wang Chiew Seafood Restaurant is located inside the residential area of SS2/103, nearby Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan SEA. The restaurant has 2 sections — air-conditioned and without air-conditioned(by the sidewalk). The place is usually packed with patrons, and my family and I always have the problem of finding a parking space and getting an empty table. One of our favourite dishes would be their Butter Prawn Mantis — fried to crispy but not chewy, and coated with delicious butter gravy. The other dish would be the Marmite Pork Ribs. The finger-licking good pork ribs were tender and coated with marmite. The marmite glaze was perfect and not over-powering. The pricing at the restaurant was pretty reasonable. During my last visit with my family, it only cost us about RM88 for 4 people — judging that we ordered 2 seafood dishes during that meal.
