Sat at the bar and we had soup, salad and an appetizer during happy hour. Very reasonable, good service. We had Max & Erma’s for many years in the Chicagoland area. Went out of business because of bad service, declining everything you could say. Glad to say that we were happy with this location.

Manager wouldn’t honor a coupon because we weren’t dining in, even though we were standing there with my wife holding our month old baby and even though I ordered a drink for while we waited.

Their food is nothing special. I would never choose this place, but have gone here when friends with kids wanted to because you get 2 free kids meals per family(so we «borrow» one of their kids). The only item I’ve had that is consistently good is their tomato mozzarella chicken sandwich. Recently had the turkey burger with avocado. The burger was a bit dry, but I think every turkey burger I have ever eaten was dry. Oh, I think they may still allow smoking in the bar area… If so – Gross.

This place has definitely changed since the last time I’ve been here… I used to say it was comparable to Red Robin… Never again!!! First, we were(or at least felt…) very rushed by the way our waitress handled herself… Second, other people at the table next to us were complaining about chunks of mystery something in their salad… And most importantly, the food was awful… My husband had the Reuben… He said it was nothing fancy… I had the California Chicken Club Sandwich… The bottom bun was soggy, the chicken tasted(and has the same type of «crunch») like the precooked grilled frozen chicken breast… The fries were mushy and WAY overseasoned… Potato skins were burnt and the pretzels had extremely way to much salt on them… Also, they used to have an awesome Ranch and now it tastes like a glob of grossness… We will not be returning– save yourself a trip and save your tastebuds… Drive ½ mile further down mid Rivers and go to Red Robin!!!

My husband and I really enjoyed the food. He had The Boss with fries, and I had the fish tacos. I would have preferred the fish tacos to have coleslaw instead of lettuce, but that’s just m preference. I also enjoyed the pomegranate Italian soda.

The tortilla burger is a must-try. Max & Erma’s has a wide variety of burgers, some of which they claim are award-winning. They have a lot of unusual kinds of burgers. Every time I come here, I am happy with my experience. The chain has meals at good prices in a great atmosphere.

We come here for the tortilla soup. Good service everytime. Kids meals come with a make your own ice cream bar which they love. I often get the garbage burger with no bun, it’s piled high every time! Highly recommend this place.

Good food, huge menu. Good service, but we were sweating through dinner. Might not be back for awhile, until they get the air fixed.

It had been years since I visited Max and Erma’s. I met some out of town family here last week and the good deals on good food didn’t make up for the service. Con: The bar was so sticky that I had to peel my cardboard coaster off when I moved to a different stool. Pro: Decent deals at happy hour. I ordered three bavarian pretzels with cheese. The bottomless build your own sundae at the ice cream bar was quite the treat. Con: The bartender acted like a ditz. One member of the party asked some questions of the bartender and his family about what kind of sweeteners were in certain beverages. He explained that he needed to avoid sugar because he is a diabetic. She asked, with a huge smile and a jocular manner, what would happen to him if he had one of the drinks with sugar. Would he get really hyper? Wow. It’s a serious health issue. He explained that it’s really bad for his health and he has to monitor his intake. Is she the only adult who isn’t familiar with diabetes? Even at her young age, I wish she understood how to talk to customers with respect.

Max and Ermas is one of those places that both benefits and suffers from being located in the Mid Rivers Mall. For me, I avoid Malls like Vampires avoid a daylight stroll through a field of garlic as it is sprinkled with holy water… though it may not literally burst me into flames, being in the mall pushes my blood pressure to the point where flames might cool me down. That said, many many many people pass Max and Ermas every day, and for that, they have a pretty steady stream of opportunities to bring in casual diners. Truthfully, the food is pretty good here. I will pass the food court in a heart beat knowing that Max and Ermas is open for business. In all honesty, this restaurant has brought me to the mall on more occasions that the rest of the stores combined, so that in itself deserves a high five! In terms of the food, I’ve had burgers, chicken strips, and probably a few other things from here over the years, but the best thing on the menu in my opinion is the Tortilla Soup. Whenever I try to fight the wife on a trip to the mall to eat at Max and Ermas, all she has to do is remind me of this soup and I give in! Fantastic! As for the rest, there isn’t much to draw me in other than the idea that my next best option is a food court with about half a dozen options that I wouldn’t eat at regardless of location. The atmosphere is ok, but nothing to write home about, and the selection is pretty basic for this type of restaurant. One thing they did do is set up coat hooks on the sides of the booths, which is great for those cold winter days. So many places force me to pile coats on a bench and hope a drink doesn’t spill in that direction, so kudos for thinking of this small but appreciated detail! Service here is pretty good as well. I’ve been here enough to say that service is consistently attentive and courteous as well. Glasses never go empty, prompt service, there is never a complaint about service when we go. I would give Max and Erma’s another star but there just isn’t anything that makes me want to go here more often than I already do, which is once every few months. For me, a 4 star restaurant is one that either a) makes it easy to decide to drive out of my way to get there, or b) makes it difficult to choose another option in the same area. Since I do not find myself pushing my wife out the door to drive out to that side of town, and I consistently consider a variety of other places when given options in this area, I have to rate Max and Ermas at a SOLID3 stars.

Meh. Overall good food. Pecan salad was boring. Reuben was good. Sundae bar was awesome. Overall, mass produced food done ok. Not a place I would go out of my way to go back to.

I order a Reuben trio plate. Food was cold, onion rings were flat. Very disappointing for first time visit.

Had the Tuscan chicken, very tender and Delicious. The potato medley was also wonderful. Don’t forget the awesome chocolate cake, very moist and lots of that dark icing…

Been to Max & Erma’s many, many times over the years. I’ve experienced both the dining and bar areas and have found Max & Erma’s to be overall a very laid back, enjoyable restaurant. Aside from the general atmosphere, they have absolutely incredible food! Flavor, flavor, FLAVOR! Of all the items offered, I highly suggest the Chicken Tortilla Soup; it has to be one of the best recipes for it that you could ever try!

Food was okay. Service was just fair. Cookies were amazing. I had a burger and fries and I thought it was decent. Nothing special but the cookies sure were. I got the feeling from the server that she did not want to be there. It was about 5pm and they were vacuuming around us and just did not seem to care that we were there.

I stopped in to Max and Ermas late one evening after spending at good 12 hours at the office. Needless to say I had eaten all day and I was starving! I thought Ill try something new BADBADBADBAD choice! I ordered the 3 play or pick 3 whatever it s called for $ 12.99 a app, entrée, and desert. I started with dry greasy potato skins, terrible. Entrée the Blu Cheese burger and fries. I got about 10 fries and a burger that looked like it was still mooing and I ordered medium well, Lastly i ordered the bath tub sundae for desert. Its supposed to be a bath tub filled with toppings, but its more like a bath tub with 4 wholes in it. 2 for syrup 1 for sprinkles and 2 for whipped creams. To top it off my server was ignorant and appeared high. I usually dont give bad reviews but this place is terrible.

Love their burgers. Generally, I know I’ll be satisfied with the food, i.e., the burger because I can never order anything else from there because I like their burgers so very much, so long as it’s cooked according to specifications. Every now and then, I’ve had a burger that was not properly cooked to my liking(medium well when I wanted medium rare to rare, to which I requested a re-cook and got a medium burger and gave up at that point). Those are disappointing times, I must say, but really 90% of my visits have been fantastic. For those lovers of all things cheese, it’s really important that you ask for the cheese fries appetizer that is no longer on the menu. God, they have amazing cheese fries. Finally, I must say that I was a bit disappointed the last time I visited(right before Christmas) because their salad was different. I was very much looking forward to a side salad because they are consistently delicious, and this salad had no cheese, had under ripe tomatoes, no croutons, and the delicious balsamic dressing was sweeter than usual. I don’t know if that’s a permanent change in the salad(after all, it was a new menu) or a fluke, but I sure hope it was the latter. All in all, I think this is a solid choice for a consistently good burger.

I have tried a variety of items from the menu at Max & Erma’s in Mid Rivers Mall and I have to say that I am never disappointed. My husband almost always gets a burger and he says their burgers are really good. I like to change what I order from time to time but my favorites are The Third Street Salad, Tortilla Soup, Baked Potatoes, Tomato Mozzarella Chicken. I really can’t choose a favorite. All are so delicious. I’m not too sure about weather or not the Tomato Mozzarella Chicken is supposed to be served coldish or not, but 95% of the time I do have to send it back to heat it up a considerable amount. With each kids meal purchase you are given a cup of ice cream to take over to the ice cream toppings bar. My kids always top their ice creams with just about every single thing from that bar. And there is plenty of ice cream for mom and dad to gobble up the left overs. The service is always amazing and friendly. We are regularly seated quickly(except for the times when we arrive after 6pm, they can get pretty busy on weekends)

Max & Ermas is a good quality restaurant. Service is about a 10 minute wait but for the food, it’s worth the wait. The restaraunt Is kept clean and the staff is friendly. The only problem is the fact that it is a bit pricey. I would recommend it to any burger lover.
