after a long day of fishing stopped at this restaurant and ordered the fried flounder… absolutely horrible… I’ve always come to this restaurant but will never come again.

This place has the best fried shrimp around… I’ve been around the Island my entire life and have tried every eatery that has come and gone over the years. These guys have been here for as long as they have for a reason! Great food, nice view of padre blvd, in a calm relaxing atmosphere. Bottom line… Eat here! Eat the fried shrimp! And they make a stuffed jalapeño that will knock your chanclas off!!!

I was unimpressed upon walking in. There are tacky handwritted signs on the door about their hours. The smell inside hints at a flooding that didn’t get cleaned up correctly. The whole place smelled of dirty mop water. But I was hungry so I sat down at one of the booths. The place is decorated in a nautical motif. Kind of like Norman Rockwell meets Spongbob Squarepants. I took a bite of the crackers on the table… it was VERY stale. Oh jeez. I pressed on and ordered a fish po boy sandwich. It came with fries. It came out within miutes of ordering and looked good. It was a full filet of fish. One of the pieces of fish was already in the sandwich. The other that didn’t fit sat aside on the plate. The damn thing was really good! I was suprised. The quality of fish didn’t match the ambiance. I fully engrossed myself in the sandwich and loved every minute of it. The tarter sauce was really good too… I asked for a second side.

We have tried all the known places at SPI, and La Jaiba is absolutely the best! My husband got broiled flounder, it was delicious. I got broiled shrimp and fish — OMG, so juicy. The oyster cocktail was great. Really, the best food on the island. I read the reviews from previous years, it’s like we are talking about two different places. Check it out guys! We r coming back tomorrow for lunch

I should of checked Unilocal!first before we ate here. I would have to agree with other reviews. Food was tasteless, shrimp sauce didn’t even taste like shrimp sauce. Don’t waste your time or money, I would not recommend.

On a hunt for raw oysters and with all the top rated restaurants all out of fresh oysters we resorted to La Jaiba«oyster bar» Yes they had oysters but their food was horrrrrrrible. You CAN ruin fried seafood. We had the super seafood platter and it came with 3 raw half shell oysters that tasted okay, 3 fried shrimp, fried fish filet, 3 rubber«cocktail» shrimp and also a baked potato and a soup. If I could say what I enjoyed the most it would be the baked potato. All the food was hard to eat except for the raw oysters(but I did get a few odd tasting ones), we thought to eat here because we thought it was somewhere that was still really good but only the locals knew about. I would not come here ever again.
