Parents, sister and I came here to try something different and were not disappointed. Our server was very friendly but is it weird to say for the first time in my reviews that she was a little bit too friendly? Anyway the service was good and so was the food. Everyone ordered different BBQ sandwiches while I was the rebel and ordered the two meat plate which consisted of brisket, turkey, potato salad and coleslaw. My mom also ordered their baked beans which were amazing and came in this cute little pot. I could eat a whole tub of those beans. The interior reminds me of BBQ places we have up here in San Antonio and the hill country. I seriously felt like I was transported to a country restaurant and I wasn’t at the beach anymore. The atmosphere was spot on and it was a good time.

Absolutely the best ribs I’ve ever eaten and I’m from AR. Not far from Memphis which is known for it’s BBQ. A friend and I went in for lunch just hoping that it would be something like back home. It exceeded our expectations and then some to say the least. She had the brisket and ooed and ahhed over it until I had to try it also. Delicious! But the ribs were my favorite. And all the sides were perfect. The Mac and cheese was just like homemade. My favorite of the sides. If you don’t try this place while you’re on the island — you’re missing out. And nobody wants to miss out.

Can easily say worst bbq I’ve ever had. Meat was dried out beyond belief and the sides taste like they have been sitting in a refrigerator for weeks. Service was far less than adequate.

My wife and I stopped in for lunch at noon on a Tuesday. I ordered the two meat choice and got ribs and brisket along with two sides, pit beans and slaw. I got two ribs and 5 slices of brisket. The slaw was good but the pit beans were great! The meat was cooked almost to perfection, the brisket was moist and had a great taste. The ribs were also cooked well but I was not a big fan of their rub. I tried their sauce that I felt complimented the meat well. My wife had the brisket plate and she agreed, the brisket was very good. She had mac & cheese that she said was very good. She also had smoked green beans that were really good. Service was fantastic, the young man that waited on us was very friendly and helpful. We only have a few more days left on the island but we are planning a return visit and this time getting some pie. I’ll let you know how that works out for us. ;-)

Sorry to say I don’t know how the BBQ is like. Been there twice and music so loud. First time we had a group if 6 and we left music so loud so we looked up on the Current magazine and Saturdays no music, WRONG, again so loud we left after being told by manager sorry can’t ask band to lower music, so u guess the band is paying his salary because he won’t be getting our money. We like music but when we go into a restaurant we like to talk and enjoy our meal not listen to loud music, we can go to a night club for that.

I ate there a second time since at least there asparagus was good the first time. I ordered the ½ rack of ribs– didn’t realize they come with no sides– and they were so smokey I couldn’t eat them. had good entertainment– but that is the only positive thing I could say about the place. I paid $ 2.50 to get a baked potato– then they charged me another $ 2.50 to have butter and sour cream with it, A $ 5 mediocre baked potato and over smoked ribs, super greasy Mac and cheese– I spent $ 31 for a meal I threw away. will only go back for music and a drink.

The pit beans were possibly the best side at amy BBQ I have ever had. The mac and cheese was tasty. For meats the pulled pork is lean and delish.

Located right off the Main Street on SPI is this wonderful, new BBQ joint that really knows how to hit the spot. Smokey tails has some good bbq with good service to go with it. We had a table of 9 for dinner and they were very accommodating. It’s a laid back place with a nice patio(& stage!) that looks like a fun place to hang out in the summer. To start, you must try the root beer from Wisconsin! It is full of flavor. The Ahi Tuna is surprisingly delicious, and was a highlight of the meal… Tender and tasted fresh. Brisket was good, and the sugar beans are awesome. Sweet potato fries are right on the money. Dessert is a must here too. We tried apple pie, pecan pie(both a la mode) and devoured them. Their adult desserts are unique, and we left happy and full. Definitely give smokey tails a try when on the island!

I went expecting the usual BBQ, and left amazed! The brisket was amazing, but the peppercorn crusted pork tenderloin with smoked Gouda cheese appetizer was incredible. But the biggest surprise was the totally amazing Ahi Tuna– best I have ever had and it was at a BBQ place! The desserts were incredible and don’t leave without having an after dinner drink called the Twisted Tumbleweed!

Today was my first time at Smokey Tails. I had the pulled pork sliders with a side of coleslaw. I liked it so much, I ordered a pound of pulled pork to go with more coleslaw and a side of baked beans. The coleslaw is some of the best I’ve had in the area. Baked beans were sweet but that’s how I like’em. Pork was moist and not over cooked and the sweet and spicy bbq sauce also had good flavor. No wait time, food came very fast and the service was quick. I look forward to my next visit, hope it is as pleasant as this one.

I came here pretty excited about trying a new BBQ place. Smokey Tails ended up replacing Harpoon’s(the living shrine and the best fish tacos I’ve had on the island). It’s brightly lit inside with big windows and a projector going. Everything looked pretty clean and we were the only group there, with 16 people. I ordered the two meat combo, ribs and brisket. Two items that typically define a BBQ joint. The ribs came out with a wet appearance and tasted«soggy». There was a pale pink tinge to the meat but I didn’t get any smoke flavor. It was tender but no mouth feel. I think it’s what happens when you hold ribs for a while waiting to serve them. The brisket was two slices from the flat. It was one of the driest briskets I’ve ever had. Luke warm and dry. Not a good combination. The beans were ok but very sugary. Our server did say they were overly sweet so I guess I should’ve expected that. I’d skip this place for other establishments on the island.

I really liked this new place, as it seems to be one of the few places in the whole RGV that really«gets» barbecue, with good smoked meats and excellent sweet sauce. If you want a BBQ place that actually has legit BBQ baked beans, come here ASAP! I haven’t had any issues with service at all, infact I’ve received excellent service, and I’ve already gone in three times since they’ve opened! The entire restaurant is remodeled from old Harpoon’s, and has a shiny new liquor license to boot with good drinks. The only thing that I could say goes against the place is that some of the sides don’t quite hit the spot(mac, green beans) while others go above and beyond anywhere else that offers them(grilled asparagus, pit beans). But, there are a good selection of sides and meat choices, so there’s something for everyone(who likes BBQ meat that is). The standout part about this place is their BBQ, and they nailed that.

Just ate lunch it was really really good pulled pork sandwich was amazing the smoked turkey came out perfect no problems whatsoever with the waitstaff they were on time all of our meal came together the only reason it only got four stars and not five was the sweet tea not your typical barbecue sweet tea in my opinion a little too weak in the sugar but was easily fixed at the table Will definitely be putting this on my list of frequently visited restaurants

First let me say this place is bright and clean and the BBQ is great. The sides dishes are ok but nothing to really rave about. If you want good BBQ you should definitely try their ribs, brisket or turkey however I would take it to go. The service, although very friendly when at your table, is not organized and really doesn’t seem to care. The first drink order wad taken, then food order but that is where the organization stopped. When the food came out, 2 waitresses had a tough time getting it to the person that ordered it. We were a table of six. It was in the evening and there was two maybe 3 other tables to be attended to. So not a busy time. The menu said that 5 out of our 6 meals came w Texas toast but that did not happen. We had to ask and only 2 of the 5 actually received it. For $ 12.99 there were 3 small ribs a basket if fries and a small side salad — toast never served. Add 1 beer(Not a pitcher, just a glass) and the meal was $ 18 and some change. Rather pricey. We were barely done eating and the waitress came around and delivered the checks. Did not ask if there was anything else we might want. Although some of us cashed out for dinner we decided to stay longer for drinks. One of us ordered a mixed drink. When the waitress brought her drink, I ordered a bottle of beer. That was the last we saw of her for 25 minutes and she never came back with my bottle of beer. Again the restaurant was not full, crowded or trying to handle a packed bar. So she came back after 25 mins and asked if we wanted a refill. No I don’t want a refill. I would have liked the original beer that I ordered. Never saw her again or the beer. So if you want to try their food, get a To Go menu, call it in, pick it up, grab some beer on the way home and enjoy your full meal. Make sure your full meal is in the bag before you walk out the door.
