This is some of the best sushi I have ever had. I might not be a very sophisticated sushi eater but the Crunchy roll, the Dragon roll and the Rainbow roll were all fabulous. The staff was also super friendly. I had a groupon that they didn’t have to take but they did. I thought the prices were reasonable too… good sushi can be pricey.

The only reason I came in here was I had bought a Groupon $ 15 for $ 30 worth of food. We had tried to order their special and the hostess explained that the coupon was not valid for their specials. I felt the service was attentive but also very aggressive with their suggestions. As for the food, it wasn’t terrible, but it doesn’t leave me wanting to return. There was no creativity in the sushi. It was various replications of the California roll, small portions, and overpriced. Even with the Groupon, I ended up shelling an additional 50 bucks. It was worth the experience of trying a new place but I won’t becoming back. The price, quality of sushi, and service wasn’t worth it.

My friends and I happened upon this place because I purchased a groupon($ 25 for $ 50 w/group of 4 or more) and we were out celebrating our friends birthday. The service was very friendly. The 2 girls who served us were very enthusiastic, outgoing and sweet. They were very accommodating and helpful, explaining the menu and offering their input. The girls provided excellent service and even took the time to chat with us for a bit. The girls even went to the extent of helping us celebrate our friend bday by singing, dancing and showing us a good time. The food was good. Sushi was made fresh and the plating was decent. I would suggest getting the avalanche 1&2 if you like fried sushi or the spicy tuna. The atmosphere and service will have me coming back for another visit. This was probably the best groupon purchase I’ve ever made.

I WILLNEVERGOBACKTOTHISRESTAURANTAGAIN!!! Just like everyone else on here, I came in with a groupon and not only did they not honor it, but the customer service was terrible and the food tasted like ass. Save yourself the trip and the disappointment.

Never go to this place! I am typically an extremely passive person and never complain about any restaurant. I have had bad service before but this is by far the worst establishment that I have ever been to in my life. The food is terrible and the service is even worse. I have never written anything on Unilocal but felt compelled enough to create an account just to warn people to never come here ever! We went in with the groupon and not only would they not honor it the owner came over got in my face and started yelling at my girlfriend. He picked up my cell phone which was on the table and threw it at me. I left so unbelievably infuriated I cant believe that this poor excuse for a restaurant is even still in business. If I could give this place 0 or negative stars I would! I cannot begin to express how rediculously terrible my experience was!

DONOTCOMEHEREEVER! I just went there for dinner today and it was the WORSTEXPERIENCE I’ve ever had at a restaurant. I can’t even make up the following story if I wanted to but here’s how my night went. The only reason I even came across this restaurant was because of Groupon. I had purchased a groupon that was originally for 4 people: 1 appetizer, 4 rolls, and 2 large bottles of sake which I paid $ 30 for. I walked in knowing that my groupon was expired and let the waitress know ahead of time that I would be using my coupon especially since the print out clearly states that«The amount paid NEVEREXPIRES» and the coupon had no other fine prints that would make my purchase unacceptable. The only thing she said to me when taking my order was that my coupon could not be used on any specials they had in the restaurant which I was OK with. At the end of our meal(1 appetizer and 3 roles), she asked to see my groupon to check us out. She walked away with my groupon and came back saying that she wouldn’t accept the groupon because the deal was for 4 people and since it was only my boyfriend and I, they wouldn’t accept it. We kept arguing back and forth that if they were to create some STUPID rule about needing 4 people to use the groupon since it’s written on the coupon, that they should also make the rule that we would have to order the same amount that was originally printed on there. The waitress didn’t budge and said we could speak to the manager who eventually came over and said the same thing as her. In the end, the male manager who was also the sushi roller, came out from behind the sushi bar, grabbed my boyfriends phone which was laying on the table and told us to call groupon if we had an issue. He told us to shut up and said NO to everything that we were arguing about and got in our face to yell even though he couldn’t speak a word of English. As we walked away from our table up to the cash register, the male sushi roller got in front my boyfriend with his arms spread out and would not let us pass. All he said was NO and that we would need to pay. I walked past the male sushi roller to speak with the female manager while the male manager continued standing in front of my boyfriend. During this time, another patron at the restaurant told us to leave and offered to pay for our meal just so we would stop arguing. Next thing I know, the male sushi owner falls onto his back, holding his neck PRETENDING that my boyfriend had pushed him down. The patron who offered to buy our meal saw the man flop on his back on his own and kept saying that he was not pushed down or that there was any contact. The argument that the female owner also made for not accepting my groupon was that they only got half of the purchase made through groupon. I hope that the $ 15 that she gets from my purchase is the last amount of money they’ll ever get to stay in business. THISPLACEIS A PIECEOFSH*T, WITHSH*TTYSERVICE, ANDSH*TTYFOOD! I KNOWPEOPLEMIGHTHAVEBADEXPERIENCESBUTTHISISUNHEARDOFAND I STILLCAN’T GRASPWHATHASJUSTHAPPENED. Do I need to say it again??? DONOTWASTEYOURTIMEHERE!!!

DONTEVERCOMEHERE!!! The owners are extremely rude and were very aggressive and confrontational with me and my girlfriend. I own my own restaurant and there is no excuse for how they acted and treated me as a customer. Came in with a groupon which was a valid promo that guess what… Is initiated by the owner. And when I came to pay my tab they told me that it was not valid and they would not honor it. Ok cool $ 30 gone. No big deal. Food was terrible. Table was dirty when we were seated. If somebody burnt this place to the ground. I will piss on the ashes. Should be zero stars but Unilocal you don’t let me do that. Consider yourself warned.

DON’T EVERGOHERE! Came with a Groupon, which the lady wouldn’t let us use. She was super rude and unfriendly. The place is a hole-in-the-wall. With service like that, they shouldn’t be getting any customers. Never experienced such bad customer service at a sushi restaurant.

We had a Groupon and they are right down the street. I think it’s a little overpriced for the quality, sans Groupon. I would try for Happy hour, or with another Groupon

Friendly staff, but food left us thinking we wouldn’t be returning halfway through the meal. The sushi was no good. The teriyaki was acceptable, they should really change their name to focus on the teriyaki part, not the sushi part.

Came here because I had a Groupon deal for dinner. The waitress(or maybe she was the owner?) was a lot less friendly as soon as she saw our Groupon paper. The food and hot sake were reasonably priced. My tofu yakisoba was delicious and a large portion, I ended up taking the rest home. My boyfriend’s sushi was good, although the wasabi was spicier than other places and the portions were very small. We sat at the sushi counter and it was so cold inside that I had to wear my coat the whole time even though I was drinking hot sake. Parking was difficult to find. Overall, not a place I would go back to.

The new owners are really nice and have made few small, but noticeable changes to the restaurant. The food is good and the wait time is short, and they even serve next door at the beer store, which I personally prefer the vibe of. I love their teriyaki.

I’m stunned by some of the other reviews here on ; it’s like reading reviews for a completely different restaurant. I moved into the attached apartment complex a little over a month ago and have dined here several times since. Time after time I have been impressed and have had a stellar experience. The awesome waitress there knows my drink order the moment I walk in. The sushi chef is extremely friendly, and willing to talk to you if you have questions. The sushi is fantastic and so is the teriyaki, flavorful. The miso soup is also heads and tails above the local competition. If you are looking for a trendy spot to down some shots with coworkers, maybe this isn’t the place for you. But if you are looking for some really good sushi or teriyaki and some awesome service, stop in.

I loved this place! We were looking for a place to eat about ten minutes to nine this evening and no exaggeration – we were turned away from a Vietnamese place and a sandwich place. We got to Sumo and despite being five minutes till closing, they welcomed us warmly… maybe even enthusiastically. Although we live pretty close to this place, we have never been. And to be honest, we’ve never even been curious. Boy, have we been missing out. The food – even though we were keeping these people from closing up for the night – was very carefully prepared and beautifully presented. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll and sunomono, and my husband ordered the teriyaki beef dinner. Even though I didn’t order a meal, they brought both of us a side salad and a bowl of miso soup. They said that mine was complimentary. The prices were great and the food was pretty darned good too!

I’m amazed this place is still in business! I’ve been going to Toyoda Sushi across the street for years but they were closed and thought I would give this place a try as I was craving sushi. WHAT A MISTAKE !!! I asked if they had fresh wild salmon(Sockeye or King) they said«of course» so I ordered 4 pieces of Sake and 2 pieces do Ebi. I was TOTALLY blown away when I saw they put salmon in the microwave, I assume to defrost, then serve it to me. OMG !!! It was completely disgusting. They then proceeded to argue with me and insist that it was fresh. I tried the shrimp and i thought I was chewing on rubber! I paid the bill and left and will NEVERGOBACK!!!

Sumo Sushi just re-opened last week under new management but with the same name. I like what they’ve done with the place. They’ve opened up the dining area quite a bit by moving some things around. They’ve also changed the lighting, so it isn’t the harsh office style florescent lights anymore which makes it feel more welcoming. The sushi is pretty good. You get decent sushi for a decent price. I really enjoyed the chicken yakisoba that we ordered, it had an interesting sweet flavor to it that I liked. The service is attentive and friendly. They’re still working out a few service glitches, such as getting the timing of serving various dishes down. Overall a great, straight ahead neighborhood sushi shop.

Good news all you Sumo Sushi lovers; It’s BACK!!! It reopened recently after a remodel and with new owners but the food is still as delicious as I remember! We ordered to go because of the«wonderful» Seattle weather and rushed home to eat our dinner. We ordered the Beef Teriyaki(Bulgogi style), Philly Roll, California Roll, Unagi Dragon Roll, and Spicy Tuna Tempura Roll. The Beef was sweet and savory and the sushi rolls were HUGE! The Salmon in the Philly roll was fatty and fresh, the Unagi Dragon roll had huge delicious pieces of unagi and the Spicy Tuna Tempura roll was a unique and wonderful taste sensation! I have to admit that they are no Toyoda(that is another review/story) but if you are looking for fresh, reasonably priced sushi from a wonderful family friendly establishment, then Sumo is the place for you!

I ordered takeout at Sumo Sushi for a late lunch– albacore roll, scallop roll, and spicy tuna roll. When I went to pick it up after 10 minutes, my order was ready. The place is a bit on the smaller side, very casual, with a little sushi bar right next to the cash register. The cashier was very nice, friendly, and smiled a lot. I was happy when I got a look at my orders– big rolls with lots of fish! The presentation was nice and it tasted great. The spicy tuna wasn’t as spicy as I personally like it to be, but it was still good. I will be back for the scallop roll for sure!
