Terribly slow service. Wait staff couldn’t care less if you came in the door. Dirty tables, people standing for a long time to sit, delayed getting your check to you, food sitting for extended periods before being served, wait staff on their cell phones… etc. Multiple parties left while awaiting tables-I wish I would have joined them. I am being very generous! The only reason one would stay here is for the reputation of the Steak and Shake and its food. I will not return to this location.

They got my order wrong and I didn’t get the extras I asked for I will never be back in this place or any Steak ‘n Shake service wasn’t bad but they tried doubting and the lady told me to lift the bread to make sure it’s not a double like I ordered

We came with a large party(7 adults &15 children) — neatly dressed on our way from the Science Center at 1:30pm on a Friday afternoon — after attempting to honor the wait to be seated sign for over 15 minutes no one even approached us to ask how many. After asking for the manager —(he was working the grill & also ignoring our group) his response was we didn’t expect a party that big. That was understandable, but they had not even said, it will be a few minutes, we need to get some tables ready — they chose to ignore the group. The manager shrugged and said — are you going to stay? Never again will we go there!!!

It was late at it was post LouFest. My group decided to nourish ourselves with delicious greasy food before bed. The Courtesy Diner next door was packed so we opted for Steak N Shake. I’m amazed by how cheap it is. Seriously, everything is like $ 4.99 and it’s a little nicer than McDonalds IMO. I got the Frisco Melt. Cheap, greasy, and fast food. A great go-to for this chain. Our server was extremely nice and attentive but it took us FOREVER to get our food and pay our bill. Seriously, the register went out like 2x in between tickets. It was a little comical how long it took to get our food and leave. Stick with the diner next door if you can…

The place is clean and the food was tasty and reasonable, which is all I ever want from a burger joint. Also, unlike what I’ve read from other reviews, our service was great! Marissa, our waitress, was amazing! She was super polite and efficient. She even asked if we’d like extra drinks to go even though we didn’t really need it. All in all, a nice place for a quick meal. I was very pleased.

My experience at this steak and shake was so bad that i created a Unilocal account to make sure nobody ever goes here. To start, we waited in drive thru for a solid 45 minutes, then we got to the window, the woman working there seemed so uneducated that i am almost sure she dropped out of elementry school. Only english she spoke was«12.88». She then proceeded to ask if i ordered the number 7, and handed me a burger, which was completley wrong, as i ordered the number 4. 10 more minutes she hands me a number 4 burger, however i clearly asked for no cheese, and luckily i checked and it had cheee. I had to wait another 5 minutes for the uneducated lady to simply open the window to take my burger back. I waited for at least 15 more minutes to get my correct, burger, and when i got it, the lady handed it to me and didnt say a single word, nor even acknowlegded my presence. im actually frusturated Unilocal wont let me give 0 stars because thats what this crappy place deserves.

Slowest service ever. We arrived there at 4:30 and we’re not acknowledged until 4:50, we were about to leave but then we were finally seated. NEXT. Nobody came back to take our orders, we didn’t even have water at the table. By the time we ordered it was 5:00. A lot of talking going on, and not enough paying attention(employees). We finally got our food at 5:30. What a damn shame.

Went to this location with a group, waited 45 minutes to get our drinks(after placing order) waited well over an hour and a half to get our meals(after speaking to the manager) the manager had the absurd worst manners I have ever encountered. Our server was apologetic and so sweet. I have been a server/worked in customer service for 7 years, I understand. But the way we were treated by the manager was inexcusable. No apology but many excuses as to why we should have to wait well over an hour and a half for our meal. Ridiculous! Worst service I have ever had ANYWHERE.

My experience here truly defies the mathematical logic of this rating system. Let me take you through it. We start at 5 stars when I walk through the door; smells great, looks clean, great. Server takes a while to get our order– 4 stars Server neglects to refill our waters– 3 stars Preparation of burgers moves at a glacial pace– 3 stars Server takes forever to ring us up– 2 stars Receipt printer doesnt work; we wait another 10 minutes– 1 star HOWEVER, server is so incompetent that neither I nor my two friends actually got charged for our food, according to our bank statements– 5⁄5 stars, would definitely eat here again

Wow! Find somewhere else to eat, anywhere! Taco Bell or jack’n’the box is better service and quality. Absolutely horrible experience: after waiting 20 minutes for three servers to clear a table, we sat down and waited another 20 minutes for our«server» to take our food order. We had a toddler with us, when the food finally came out, his sliders had buffalo sauce on them, I’m not sure who thinks that’s okay. Drinks were rarely filled(probably twice during the course of the entire meal that took a total of two hours); I’ve been to steak and shakes before, and that is unheard of. Among other things: we never got silverware, we had to ask for napkins, the speaker was clearly broken(cutting in and out), the table was filthy –when I sat down I got something on my arm and there was crusty sauces on the table top – , the floor was grimy, at one point the manager dropped an entire bust tray and left chunks of broken plates for our two year old to fall on. Over all really horrible. If I could rate as a zero star I would. This place needs an overhaul. We got there at 5:50 and left at 8:10, we only stayed that long for because we had to wait for our food for that long! As for the four and five star ratings this place gets I’m sure those people have never eaten at this location, they probably just like steak and shake.

I’m generally a fan of Steak ‘n Shake. I mean, you know what to expect from them — cheap food that’s decent enough for the price(and Frisco Melt tasty madness!). That being said, this location has taken a fairly sharp fall from grace of late. The service ranges from mediocre to piss-poor. I’m generally very soft on servers as I’ve worked in the industry before. I know that they’re, in all likelihood, drastically understaffed at all hours here. That being said, the place is always dirty and for the love God, if you order online it doesn’t make a single bit of difference. They’re cooking it when you get there. What’s worse is it’s also always jammed pack with the worst kind of douchebags who actually have no sympathy and worse yet, a sense of the surrounding environment. It’s a fairly intolerable combo. When it boils down to it, I have but one piece of advice for this location — if there’s a seat at the counter, grab it! It’s absolutely the one spot you’re guaranteed some solid response time and you can usually drown out the background noise when you bite in steakburgery tastieness. Other locations are probably a better bet, though.

I was really torn between giving this location a two or a three. Mainly because of the slow service! I am mainly surprised there are so many reviews written. Can’t say I didn’t experience the same molasses like speed of the place though. So I have to say, we were there after drinking all night and it was about 3AM. We stood there waiting to be seated and greeted. Then we sat there waiting to get menus. One of us finally just got up and picked up some menus. Then we sat there waiting to be served. It was a waiting game where we finally decided that if no server showed up within five minutes, we were going to drive thru the McDonald’s down the street. Server shows up with two minutes left to spare. She takes our order and we wait for our food. Food shows up, I’m eating my fries, yay, so hungry! Pick up my burger and WAHHHHHHH, A BIGOLEBLACKHAIR!!! Thank goodness the server comes by right at that moment or else I would’ve been staring at my hairy steak burger. Why I decided on three stars. She gave me a new burger and fries. And took it off the bill. Exactly what any server should do and she did!

The attitude of the person running the drive thru stinks. Wasn’t a long line in the drive thru. I pull up. And she says. «Wait just a minute.» I contemplated leaving after her«minute» was about 5! Drive-through is super slow. But it’s still a decent steak and shake just like any other steak and shake location. Be careful pulling out of the restaurant because cars on Hampton Drive by really fast and it’s hard to get out of the parking lot without getting hit!

Steak N’ Shake is awesome… just not this location. It’s Steak N’ Shake, so you know the food, and the food here is prepared just the same way as other locations, though don’t expect the staff at this location to always get it right. The biggest problem with this location, however, is the inexplicably slow service. Yes, I know the food is made to order, so I expect a little wait, but there have been times where there are just 2 cars ahead of me, and yet the wait still exceeds 30 minutes! During my last visit, I was waiting behind 3 cars at about 10:30pm on a Tuesday, and the drive thru was slower than ever. While cars sat idle, I watched several of the staff head outside with no apparent purpose and proceed to hang out in the parking lot smoking and running around like kids at recess for about 20 minutes before disappearing back into the building. I don’t know why I continued to wait, but I did, and when I pulled up to the window after 40 minutes, the staff member greeted me with a vacant look, and asked me again what I had ordered. They had forgotten to put the order in. They asked me to pull forward, but I just drove away. Second time I’ve driven away from the drive-thru at this location without getting my food. Calls to the manager have not been returned. They just don’t seem to care. That’s why I will not visit there again. If you’re craving Steak N’ Shake, just head back up to Kingshighway and Chippewa, less than 5 minutes away. They see a significant amount of volume, but they’re much more accurate and efficient.

Service: 0⁄5 Service was SO slow and terrible. First, even though we asked for our party of 8 to be seated together, we were refused and placed at different benches. When we questioned another server about this(as we saw tables greater in number than ours get seated together), we were moved to a seat together. I was willing to forgive the table issue, but the speed of the service was just ridiculous. Yes, we did have a larger party. And yes, it was about ~3AM and I understand that there are limited staff at that time. But we waited for a full hour to get 8 milk shakes and 4 orders of food WHILE we watched tables who were seated after us, with larger parties, and with all people ordering drinks and food get served, finish their meal, and leave before we even got our shakes. (Also, what is up with all the servers being covered in oil stains?! Kinda gross gah!)

This Steak n Shake has always been consistently good for me. I’ve done breakfast, lunch and mostly TAKHOMASAC from this location. My most recent visit was another carry out order of 2 cheeseburgers with everything, 2 orders of regular french fries and 2 milk shakes; 1 banana and 1 strawberry. When I approached the counter, I was cheerfully greeted by a manager who took my order and processed my coupon. He told me my order would be ready in a moment. I barely had time to sit down on available stool, get my iPhone ready to check in on Unilocal and a young waitress walks up and says, «did you have 2 cheeseburgers and fries?» I was in shock, this could not be my order. How could it be ready that fast? I said, «Yes, but I also had two shakes.» She responded, «A banana and strawberry. They’ll be here soon. «Still in amazement I said, «okay, thanks». I then finished checking in on Unilocal and she was back with my shakes. Wow! That was some fast carryout. Another fast food joint down Hampton with Golden Arches can’t put food out that fast. Once the food was home, everything was made to order and was the perfect easy meal for a night of TV. SNS knows how to do fast food fast.
