I had the today’s special. It was a turkey sandwich with hummus, lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo. I had it on wheat bread. It was a nice clean place. And like all the other reviews, the people were really nice. I definitely recommend this place.

Sandwich A’fare is hidden behind the Denny’s(and former Winchell’s) Plaza. Finding this place is like you got to know the secret alleys.. . it’s «Sandwich Affair!» Once you know where this place is, you can just park in the plaza and walk around the building to the back, or drive around and claim 1 of 3 reserved spots right in front of the shop. On my recent visit, I ordered Shamoo(the tuna salad) sandwich with lettuce, tomato and onions on sourdough. Turned out to an Average sandwich — the bread was more white than sour; lettuce, well, that was actually shredded yellow more-like iceberg; slices of tomato, a minor ring of onion; and tuna salad. The tuna salad tasted fine during the first few bites with a hint of celery, but very soon, it became drippy. By the time I was done, this sandwich felt like hardly an average lunch, though at an average price($ 6.75) that left me full but unsatisfied. This place is an Ok place to grab a quick lunch at a reasonable price, only if you happen to be in the neighborhood or work here. Since I’m not a ham or pastrami guy, I am probably missing out on the wonderful delights that others are raving about, or may be not!

Great Sandwiches! I went here for over 2 years when I worked in the area. One big perk of this place is that the owner sits there and argues(comically) with his wife and customers similar to the«Soup Nazi» from Seinfeld. Try the Marx Brothers on Marble rye

Best Sandwiches in all San Diego. The only place in San Diego, that every item on the menu is 10 out of 10.

Very nice people it’s family owned. I never used to eat sandwiches until I tried this place but they are delicious. I recommend people to stop by and try this place and they have been in business for over 30+ years so they are doing something right.

YUM! YUM! YUM! I dont think I have ever craved a sandwich before but the sandwiches here are YUM! Everything is fresh and just goodnees or should i say greatness! May I also add the chili is delicious! It has something in it that i cant put my finger on but it may be one of the best chilis i have ever had. I am so happy i found this place and its worth finding and its like«Cheers» — everyone knows your name. The place has regulars and that is a great sign. This is a MUST Go!

Could these be the nicest and cutest people ever? It’s a strong possibility. I wish I could eat here more often, but I generally eat lunch only a little while before they close and I hate to be *that* person who shows up when they’re mentally done for the day. But I have been in twice and enjoyed the service and the food tremendously. My first visit I had the tuna sandwich and my second I had the egg salad. Their sandwiches are big, guys! I’m well full after shoving one of their sandwiches directly into my face. This place is so confusing to find, though. I’m sure it’s been said before in the reviews, but you much choose the left fork in the road when entering the driveway from the road. It’s like a quest. You’re there, with two paths in front of you. Go right to eat sandwiches at Togo’s, go left to eat them at The Sandwich Afare. I recommend going left.

Come for the food, stay for the abuse! The sandwiches are great. Bud is even better. Tell him I sent you.

My eldest son found this place from a co-worker. Bud & Mateel has been here for years, going on word of mouth. It’s worth the hunt to find them and the distance. Mr.& Ms. Mateel understand customer service and they only serve you the freshest ingredients with large portions. This place will not empty your wallet. Only complaint I had… my mouth wouldn’t fit over the sandwich. Please let me know if this review was useful, funny or cool. Thank You so much

Great spot for great sandwiches! The parking here is awkward to say the least. There’s a number of used car dealers that use this parking lot, and it’s hard to tell where you can and can’t park. Sandwich Afare does have a few assigned spots. They’re just not immediately in front of the business.

Bud is the man. He makes a bomb sandwich too. Make sure you when in with a smile or he will make you laugh so you smile. Great service too. Thanks.

honestly the sandwiches are JUST average. As a matter of fact, I definitely had tasted much better elsewhere. I’m sad to say I’m giving this place a two stars because i can tell this is totally a mom/pop shop but the food is just mediocre. ordered The Godfather — basically an italian sandwich, it has salami, mortadella, and cheese on an about 6″ sub; topped with lettuce, tomatoes, mayo and dressing. Nothing fancy when the sandwich came out. It’s pretty much italian cold cuts that you can get from the supermarket. the salami isn’t the«good» salami. the muhammad ali is a pastrami and ham sandwich on rye. The meats, were thrown in the microwave to heat up. At least at quiznos they use those toaster ovens(not microwave). If it’s going to be like that i might as well make it at home. i just didn’t think the cost for my sandwiches was worth it. If i were to go to Subway, sure they have cold cuts too but i got so much more toppings of my choice! overall the sandwiches were okay. at most they deserve 3 stars for food, i just don’t think it deserves 4 or more. Service was fast and the man and woman behind the counter were sweet. You know it’s their business and they put in their heart on the restaurant. However walking into that place, seeing how empty and slow the business is, makes me think how old those meat and breads are.

I have been there twice in the past month to try them out. First, finding the place is a challenge. I am not sure why any retail business owner would choose to open a shop where nobody can easily see you. The food is just ok. I am all for supporting locally owner businesses but as a local business owner maybe try to make the place look a little nicer. I am just saying that the way a food establishment looks to the customer makes a difference. It just feels very half assed when it came to decorating it. The owner, I can see why he gets the nickname«The Sandwich Nazi». I actually liked his personality. It reminded me of living on Long Island where I am from. If this was in a better location with better décor they could be doing a lot better. I wont be running back there anytime soon but would go there if I was in a pinch.

Yum Yum Yum! I used to work nearby and glad I found this place. A coworker recommended it and I loved it! The owner is great fun and the sandwiches are fantastic. It’s a little hard to find but worth it. I also very much approve of helping out the local business instead of getting some generic commercialized sandwich. So do yourself a favor and get a great sandwich and help out a good family owned shop while you’re at it. If you’re a Seinfeld fan, you may even get the joy of hearing the utterly perfect use of that famous line… «No soup for you!» Try the corned beef and pastrami, super tasty, but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!

Nice little family run sandwich shop tucked around back. Down and dirty back here, but the food is very fresh and clean. Nice selection of sandwiches, fairly simple with everything being tasty. Big bonus for having corned beef, pastrami and Snapple! Bud didn’t seem that happy when I was here compared to the rest of the reviews. It’s reasonably priced for what it is. For my personal taste, I’d like them to trade in the shredded lettuce for leaf lettuce, add a nice pickle to complement the sandwich, and better selection of sides and chips. All in all, a good find for the area. I’ll be back to try the Gina next.

Having worked on this side of town, there are a ton of places to have lunch. But finding one that isn’t a fast food joint, has great prices, and fresh food is hard to find. This place is it. It was right by where I worked, and was tasty. For some reason, I really liked their egg salad sandwich, which is weird because I’m not a fan of mayo or eggs. Go figure! Anyways, they have a great selection of bread and great sandwiches!

BESTSANDWICHSHOPINSANDIEGO!!! Fresh bread, fresh meat and cheeses, huge portions and great pricing. You can’t beat it! Plus Bud and his wonderful wife are the best and a classic place to get a sandwich. Hard to find, and limited parking at the noon hour, and only open 10am-3pm, but it’s worth it.

I’m a sucker for a sandwich. A good tuna, egg or chicken salad sandwich on rye is my lunch comfort food on a bad day. It’s a white thing. This place is not easy to find. The strip mall that you see when you Google-map the address is the right one, just go around back. The strip mall is built on a slope and the rear of the strip mall has a second row of shops, including this place. I did not get a chance to socialize, but it looks like a true Mom and Pop operation. Chicken salad on rye was terrific and piled high. It was a worthy sandwich that gave me ten minutes of relief on another hectic day at the office. The price was nice too. This one goes into my rotation for a good deli sandwich.

I was warmly greeted by who I assumed is «Bud.» «The Godfather» while filled with meat and cheese, was tasty, but it wasn’t all that special compared to other Italian subs that I’ve had. At only $ 5.25 you can’t beat the price! I ate half of my sandwich and saved the other half for next day’s lunch. It’s a real small shop, with a down homey feel. They only have 4 parking spaces designated for themselves, so good luck getting parking! Yes, they accept credit cards!
