It was very slow when I stopped in here. It was me and another couple at the other end of the bar on an late Saturday afternoon. The staff was friendly and we talked about everything other than the food. It was alright. Not spectacular but not bad either.

Great lunch special! I am impressed by how you can get miso soup or salad and a whole lunch platter for $ 8 or less. Food was good(Im not super picky when it comes to sushi), and I really enjoy their california rolls and spring rolls. Service has been slow on occasion but for the price its well worth it!

It’s been a couple years since I’ve eaten here. Last time I was here in 2009 it was a great little Japanese place where you can get a quick bite for pretty cheap, like a to-go place. Well that’s changed. Couldn’t decide between Chinese or Japanese but wanted to give this place a try after being back in the neighborhood. Went in and was seated… no one was there at 5 pm. Looking through the menu I thought where’s the bento box? Dang there isn’t one so forced to ala cart it. Dinner portion teriyaki chicken cost $ 8.95 + a California roll $ 5.50 + drink and tip. That’s $ 20 my friend. I don’t know why this place decided to be a fancy dine in Japanese restaurant but it really shouldn’t be. It still feels like a to go place. Food was just OK. Thought the chicken breast was overcook and hard.

Picked up to go food from here last night. I placed my order at 6:53 for one San Diego roll. There was a guy still trying to figure out his to go order as well. I went next door to get a tea from Starbucks and got back within a few minutes. The guy finally puts in his order just after 7. Anyways, I sit there on my phone waiting, and keep checking the time. The other guy’s order of like 4 rolls is done before me and he gets it and leaves. My roll? Is handed to me at 7:23, 30 minutes after I placed my order. Now that’s messed up service. When I get home, I opened the box, its 5 small pieces of sushi, and tastes like crap. Its all the little leftover pieces of fish crammed into a roll. I ended up just throwing it away and making myself a frozen dinner. Never coming back. Slow service, bad roll.

Cute place that is a little hidden and tucked away. I liked sitting at the bar and watching them roll. I posted a picture of the TITANIC roll that I got and I would recommend it if you are trying the place for the first time. See the TITANICROLL here: I get a feeling they are ‘mom and pop’ so it makes me feel like I want to support them.

I’m not certain but I’m guessing Kou means slow? My son and I stopped in here the other night after being in the area. Since he and I are the only ones in the family who will eat rolls and sushi, we thought we would give Kou Sushi a try. At the time we walked in, it wasn’t too crowded. A couple of tables finishing up and a few patrons seated around the sushi bar. Much too empty to be as slow as it was. Our waitress was very cool. She explained their deals to us indicating if you order 5 or more rolls from a selected menu, it was 50% off. Well there was only two of us and what was I going to do with 5 rolls? Besides, we wanted to share some tuna to go along with our rolls. She was kind enough to allow my beer to be one of the items that granted the discount. She was also pressuring the sushi chefs to step it up and get the food out, which took forever. Since there was such a delay, she brought out complimentary soups for both my son and I. Again, she wasn’t the problem. The sushi chefs were S-L-O-W. It seemed as though they placed a priority on those who came in and placed their orders to go. I guess I just assumed one would fill the orders in the manner in which they were placed. The food was average at best. While fresh, the rolls and sushi were smaller than portions I’m used to seeing and there was nothing that really wowed me about this place. If it weren’t for our server, this place would be a 2 star rating however with all of her efforts, I’d feel bad for dinging her for the rest of the staff ineffectiveness.

Came here with the family for dinner one night. It was small and kinda empty. The place looks like it used to be some fast food chinese place that they converted into a Japanese restaurant. the sushi bar looks like it used to be the place where they would display all the foods to pick from… Food isn’t too bad. The had this 50% off sushi deal. You had to order 5 rolls from a certain section of the menu. it wasn’t bad. All we ate was sushi and they were pretty fresh and tastey. I’d come here again to try their other stuff. The place was kind of dark lit, but they could just be trying to set a «mood.» The experience overall was OK. Nothing really stood out to me. It seemed like an average sushi place. I dont’ have any major complaints, nor do I have any reason to rave about it.

We continue to frequent this sushi place and are still loving it. SInce I wrote my first review, I’ve not had one slow service experience. We went in just this Friday and the place was packed. We were in and out in an hour — service doesn’t seem to be an issue anymore. I continue to recommend Kou Sushi! Try ‘em out, stick to the half price menu and you’ll walk away more than satisfied.

The family and I were deciding between quick Mexican food nearby or this small sushi bar. We decided on sushi because the Mexican place was crowded and loud with children. You think this will be one of those 50% off sushi places, but they only got a 50% off deal if you order 5 items from a certain selection. This isn’t hard to do as there is a lot of 2 piece nigiri in this selection. We only got sushi and were pleasantly surprised at how fresh the rolls were. We ordered tempura, spider, crunchy rolls and some nigiti. I love saba(mackerel) because it’s nice and salty and I was a lot fresher than most places. Service was a little slow, but at least they weren’t rude and the presentation is probably why it takes a little longer than usual. Dishes come out looking aesthetically pleasing. Probably only 5 tables total and a bar that can fit about 4.

I wasn’t expecting this place to be as fantastic as it was! The sushi was very fresh and great portion size as well as the roll I had, the Cajun roll, which was so good and so unique. They don’t overstuff their rolls with rice and the fish is great quality, especially the sashimi. They were very nice when I brought in my messy toddler and the service was friendly. So glad this is my neighborhood sushi joint! People that say that this place is expensive are cheap… good sushi is expensive. I just moved from San Francisco(sushi bar on every corner) and the rolls/sashimi are very fairly priced.

Stopped by this place while I was in 4S ranch for a quick lunch. I was drawn in by their sign that said 50% off rolls. Ordered the sushi for to go but it took almost 20 minutes to get my order. I think it could have been faster since it was empty when I got there, but I guess on a lazy Sunday afternoon it’s ok to do some waiting. The sashimi pieces I ordered were fresh and the rolls good, so overall I was happy with what I ordered.

I hate this place. And that’s a strong statement because I don’t think I’ve said that about any other place I’ve been to. This place is incredibly sneaky with their advertising. The first couple of times we went here, it was okay. Then one day while picking up a take-out order, I noticed they had a sign outside their door advertising«50% off rolls». The woman at the cashier pointed it out to me and said, «Next time, you get 50%» in broken English. Wow, what a deal I thought! So the next time we phoned in our order, we asked them, «Are you still offering your 50% off rolls deal?» «Yes,» she said. We ordered 4 rolls. First, when I got there, they hadn’t even STARTED the order. I had to wait 20 minutes for them to make it. Second, when I was presented with the bill(after they were all made), they were NOT discounted. Apparently the promotion was that we had to order FIVE rolls to get 50% off. You would think that after asking whether the promotion was still going on over the phone, she could have told us this after we had ordered 4 and mentioned that we needed one more to get the 50% discount. When I realized the error, I told her to add another roll but she wouldn’t do it. I should have walked out, but I didn’t. This incident alone should have made me never return, but unfortunately the Mister wanted sushi and it was a desperate moment. This time, I was determined to get it right. I went into the store and picked up an order form. At the top of the form it was clearly printed: 50% rolls — minimum order 5. I put my order in for 5 rolls and sat there waiting while they made them. The bill came. NOT discounted. I asked why. Apparently, this promotion only applies to the rolls on ONE side of the sheet. WTF! Why doesn’t it say that? I was furious and again, I should have walked out, but I didn’t. I will NEVER return. Disclaimer: These incidents happened a while ago(probably last year sometime) but everyone I tell this story to says I need to write this on Unilocal so here it is.

A hidden gem! A nice little sushi place in 4S Ranch. Fresh fish, interesting specials(last time I was there they had Magai, which was very tasty). Pay attention to the«Sushi Special»: rolls and nigiri are 50% off if you buy 5 or more. Outside of that special, I’d say that the pricing is a bit high. A very interesting beer selection. The staff is friendly, but the sushi bar itself is somewhat small(so you may not get to interact with their fun sushi chefs). The restaurant does a large amount of take-out business at dinner time; plenty of locals call in orders on their way home. To me, that’s a good sign of the food quality. Plenty of care is exercised in the preparation of the dishes and the chefs often add their own special touches to otherwise familiar items. There is a small outdoor seating area, but the view is «strip mall parking» — avoid.

This is a great little restaurant. Close to my home so that is a plus! Their Sushi special(5 or more items at 50% off) is what first got me to try this place out and was pleasantly surprised. I’ve had excellent service everytime I have been here. I just took a friend there this past weekend and now she is a fan of this place herself.

The 5 rolls or more for 50% off is the reason why I come here. The specialty rolls are not a part of this offer, but the nigiri and regular rolls are. If you’re not looking for extravagant rolls, this is a decent deal. If I was doing this deal on my own, I’d probably order just the nigiri, but if I was doing it in group, I’d order the rolls. Also some of the rolls are relatively small too so I’d be selective about which ones you order. Its not the best sushi ever, but given that 4S Ranch has nothing to offer in terms of Asian cuisine, this is about as good as it gets in the area. The nigiri portions are actually decent, pretty large slices of fish and the rice are not bricks. If it weren’t for the 50% deal, I’d probably be here at all. I’d rather drive 5 minutes to RB for RB Sushi or Akai Hana instead. Better atmosphere, dining experience, and more selection of sushi and/or Japanese cuisine.

I love Sushi and this place is within walking distance from my house so it’s a good deal. The staff is always friendly, I have been there so often that they know what I want when I come in. It’s nothing fancy but nice for an afternoon lunch with a friend or for some delicious dinner take-out. I always feel welcomed and the food is fresh and yummy. They have some lunch specials that are really good deals. The chef’s special rolls are a tad pricey but based on the location and the fact that Sushi isn’t cheap it is really to be expected. I suggest splurging on a chef’s special roll though because they are amazing. They are always fresh, the presentation is great, and they come with miso soup or salad(just make sure to tell them which one you want or they will guess). I will be back again soon, I’m sure.

This place is very inconsistant. Sometimes you get large fresh generous fish portions which warrants a 4 star review… but sometimes you get dinky little left over fish pieces which warrants a 2 star review. It’s a 50⁄50 hit or miss. I have had good experiences going on Mondays. Maybe that’s when they get their fish? Or perhaps the chef is just happy on Mondays. Another downside is that they’re EXTREMELY slow(Portions for 2 takes 15+ minutes when ordered togo). I would definitely call in your orders before you pick up.

I went here few weeks ago with my fiancé. I guess they had changed their name from VGood Sushi to Kou Sushi(but their inside menu says 4S Sushi) I was a little hesitant just to try this place out due to the fact that its in a little shopping center in 4S Ranch that doesn’t get too much traffic so it had me questioning how fresh can their fish be. The fish they used was surprisingly very fresh. It did not taste fishy whatsoever. They had a good amount of specialty rolls as well as regular entrees and bento boxes. They also have a special going on too«Buy 5 rolls, get 50% off» …something like that. You just have to go by and check it out. Their sushi rolls were tasty and nigiri was nice and fresh, but OMFG thier hamachi kama! This was the biggest and juciest hamachi kama I have ever ordered from any sushi spot EVAR! Will mos definitely be returning. Its even better knowing its so close to home. **HIGHLYRECOMMEND: Hamachi Kama**
