Sitting at the sushi bar, watching the sushi chef work his magic, all I could think was, «That looks delicious!» I was given free rein to order whatever I wanted, but seriously, who sits at a sushi bar and orders hot items? The two of us took a second to look over the sushi selections, and then made our choices and sat back to watch the chef work. I’m always impressed by the knife skills(or the fact that they can keep said knives so damn sharp!), and by the speed with which they create those complicated-sounding special rolls. We went with the chef’s suggestion on two rolls, the Sunset Beach and the K roll. We also placed an order for one spicy tuna roll and one order of fresh salmon. He got the salmon out to us first, fresh and beautifully plated on a bed of daikon radish. The Sunset Beach roll came out next, and it was flavorful, well made, and delicious. The K roll came out next, and holy moly, it about floored me. It was piled high with deep fried soft shell crab, to the point where we couldn’t really see the sushi beneath it. It was large, it was intimidating, but eventually, it went down our gullets like nobody’s business. The chef(whose name is Kevin, by the way), purposely held off on making the spicy tuna roll, because he rightly guessed that we’d be too full to finish it. When we sat down, we thought we’d pound all the rolls, no problem, but after we put a hurt on the K roll, we realized we were full. And good on Chef Kevin for having that foresight, saving our bellies and wallets the need to try to eat another roll that we just didn’t have room for. Aside from the rolls and the tea, the service was incredibly friendly and quick. They had quite a brisk business going the day we were there(both from diners in the restaurant and people getting orders to go), but we never had to wait long for things like refills on tea, or for our rolls to appear in front of us. This was a fun, delicious experience, and I’m sad that I never knew it was so close to the office. Of course I discover it now, when I’m no longer going to be in this area. Of course.

Family owned. The owner, Kevin, is very friendly and takes pride in crafting quality sushi.

This is the finest sushi restaurant in Rancho Bernardo(in fact, I can’t think of a better one in North County). I’ve been here 20 – 30 times and have never had anything but exceptional quality. The staff is polite, comfortable, and fast. The spot is smaller, but not tiny. I’d recommend the K Special or the Spicy Ramen lunch special. Great find.

Marvelous, creative menu, beautiful décor, very nice service, and delicious food! I had the Kobe special, which is California Roll covered with bulgogi beef and dynamite sauce, then baked in an oven and topped with Korean bbq sauce. Absolutely yummy! My husband had a peacock roll, which I didn’t taste because i would have had to swap a piece of my Kobe special with him, and I didn’t want to share! I can’t wait until we go again.

I stopped in here for a late lunch one day. The place was empty. It is one of those strips malls a local would only know about so I was not worried. I tried a four by four which is 4 different types of sushi. In this case it is the same roll with just different variations. It did not excite me. I basically remember eating a lot of rice. I do not remember any of the types of fish in them. For now it is just ok. Next time I will try some other items on the menu.

I’ve been there twice now and have enjoyed it both times. The food was incredible and the service even better. The two rolls worth your visit are the«K» and«Fujiyama» rolls. Pay your first visit during a slow time… after lunch and before dinner. Take the time to chat with the owner while he prepares your rolls… enjoy the conversation with the food and a shot of Sake… it will have you returning…

Was craving some sushi during my lunch break. Having this place so close I figured I’d try something new. I arrived and the place was empty which made me somewhat skeptical and after seeing the prices I understood why. Nonetheless I stayed and ordered the 4×4. It had 4(4 Piece) Rolls. Philadelphia, Spicy Salmon, Shrimp Tempura and the 4th I forget what kind. Very well served. Lots of crunchy stuff on top. Very good sushi(Although I have had better for cheaper). Which is why I only give 3 stars. They really need to drop the prices. Service was great. Fast, considering it was one guy making everything. And they even hooked it up with some Edamame while I waited, which were on the menu for about 4 bucks(Overpriced) Overall, great service, great food, HIGHPRICES.

We stopped in here after looking at houses in the area and wanted to grab a healthier dinner option in the shopping center. We thought this place looked cozy. And it is a cute place, nicely decorated for the small place that it is, but we felt the menu options were somewhat limited and average. The specials were way more than what we wanted to pay in a small casual neighborhood setting so we just got a couple simple rolls and I got a yakisoba. Someone ordered edamame and they were served cold, which seemed to be less effort than what we would give if we were heating up a bowl of edamame at home. The service was good(friendly), food decent/good, establishment real clean, and quiet… just doubt we will be back unless we are in the area for one of their lunch specials or they offer a little bit more to for the price.

One of my favorite sushi places. I live in Fallbrook so I have to drive 30 minutes to get there but it is worth it. Their tempura is delicious, light and flaky and piping hot — I often order the shrimp tempura appetizer and a couple of negiri which is plenty for lunch. My favorite sushis there are spicy tuna roll, freshwater eel, yellowtail, maguro, and spicy scallop roll. The chef also makes a special roll for me that I used to get at another(now defunct) bar — crab and shrimp tempura inside, with spicy tuna on top and eel sauce over top — sounds a bit weird, but try it. I’ve never had a problem with slow service but I’m careful to go at the slower times — usually before noon or after 1:30. They also bring you free edamame.

Nice people and great sushi. Try the Kobe beef roll. Some people mention it’s a little slow, but most good sushi places are. Relax, have a beer it is definitely worth the wait.

Tried this spot for the 1st time on Good Friday and I was sadly disappointed! The place is small and the service is slow. On the plus side, they offer complimentary miso soup, but it looks and tastes like it comes from a box. I had the Shrimp Yakisoba and Lobster Crunch Roll for dinner and thankfully the sushi was decent. The shrimp in the yakisoba were small and not enough! Also, the yakisoba looked and tasted like it was soaked in soy sauce… YUCK! =/ For those of you who know me, I usually finish my meal and hardly have enough food to take home, but on this rare occasion I had more than half my meal left! =( Although this was my 1st time, it’s also my last!

Close to work and decently priced sushi. What’s not to like about this sushi joint? Just one thing, a few times I came in for lunch and the fish did not seem as fresh as I like it. I could tell because fresh fish does not have a fishy smell, but it did here a few times when I ordered nigiri. Thats a no no for me.

My favorite little hole in the wall! The owners are incredibly friendly, and food is great! My personal favorites are the Nabe Udon and the Yakisoba. The chef always knows exactly what we order every time we come in haha. For those who aren’t big sushi fans, then try the Kobe Beef Special(It’s on the white board, not on the menu) or as I like to call it the«hamburger roll.» Also my husband likes to get the Albacore Tempura appetizer because you can hardly taste any fishiness. Service can be a little slow sometimes, but it’s just one guy making everyone’s orders so just order some Sake and enjoy yourself.

The food — Pretty standard sushi. The fish wasn’t particularly fresh on my visits but the hot food is pretty tasty. My usual lunch-order is a bento with either Spicy Chicken or Katsu. The inside — A pretty small location that can only sit about 20 – 30 people. Most people I see are taking togo orders and for some reason this place never gets as busy as the Mexican food place or Victors next door. The outside — The parking lot here is designed so terribly. It’s supposed to be one way, but rarely do I see anyone following the rules. The parking spots themselves are are about 2 Ft too small. It gets pretty busy during the lunch rush. The reason I give this place two stars is because I feel like everything here costs about 20% higher than it should. The food has decent quality but there’s no reason their rolls should cost $ 14+. Comparable rolls in PB for example cost about $ 10-$ 12, combined with the terrible parking I find it pretty hard to choose this place when deciding where to go for lunch.

Great Sushi. I had a Spicy Tiger roll($ 13) and a Ruby roll($ 14) with a Sapparro. i sat at the bar and talked to the sushi chef for a while. Very friendly staff. the reason they got a 4 instead of higher was it was a bit slow being they had one cook, and one sushi chef. i wasn’t in a hurry then so it didn’t matter to me. but i would give it alot of time if your going here. after talking to the staff for a little while and enjoying my beer, they brought me out a couple of samples of the appetizers which were all delicious. I will defiantly go back here when i want sushi. It seemed that the fish was very fresh, at least to me. It is expensive, but its sushi… cheap sushi usually means cheap fish… Very small establishment, but at the same time very clean.

I have a high standard for Japanese restaurants because I am from the bay area so I am not sure if me saying«I’ve experienced better» is fair. What I will say, however, is I find it upsetting that I had to pay $ 1.50 for a cup of standard Jasmine green tea. Isn’t that usually part of the meal? This, accompanied by the fact that the food was about the same quality as something you could get from the food court at your local Westfield Shopping center, will make me not return.

Came here for some great take-out but left empty handed… At first i was debating if i should even write a review without tasting their food first. BUT, a great restaurant here at Unilocal does not deserve 5 stars on its food alone. Customer service plays a big role so here i go — Every Thursday me and the group(about 15 of us) take turn picking out a restaurant to try. This week is my pick so i turned to Unilocal for help. After reading a few reviews on Fujiyama, i decided to stop by after work on Tuesday and try it out first. Here was my to-go ordered: Special Hawaiian Roll $ 14 Sashima Salad $ 10 California Roll $ 10 The friendly waitress(1 star) took my order, went to the kitchen, came back and asked for my cell number. The sushi chef explained that it will take about 30 to 45 mins to complete the order because tempura shrimp in my Special Hawaiian takes about 20 minutes to cook. So they wanted me to go somewhere and come back after 45 mins. This didn’t make sense because THEYWERENOTEVENBUSY! I got to Fujiyama around 7pm, and only 1 table was taken. Not to mention, everyone at that table already got their food. I told the waitress & sushi chef POLITELY that i had to be somewhere in 10 minutes, and i asked how long will it take to complete my order if i don’t want the Special Hawaiian Roll.(a California roll & sashimi salad shouldn’t take THAT long to prepare, right?) This was when the sushi chef got pissed off, looked annoyed and refused to answer my question. This is unacceptable. Irritated, but i remain civilized. I asked them(again, politely) to cancel my order because i couldn’t wait for 45 mins. They kept insisting the food will be done soon and this time, in 30 mins. The chef & waitress walked quickly into the kitchen and tried to start preparing my food even after i told them i don’t want it. I had to run after them and said«I AMSOSORRYBUT I REALLYCANTWAITFOR30MINUTESAND I WOULDLIKETOCANCELMYORDER, PLEASE!» I felt bad for the friendly waitress because she looked apologetic the whole time. I told her i will be back next time… and i will. Hopefully next time the unfriendly sushi chef won’t be there. But we will see.

Finally a decent sushi place near my place… My search is over. I agree with the other reviews about the location. Parking kinda sucks here. But the small quaint ambiance makes this a go to place when I get the urge to get my sushi fix on. Tonight had the Philly roll and a Special hawaiian included crab, avocado, tempura shrimp, tuna, and other ingredients, drizzled with something reminiscent of an eel sauce which was tangy/tart sprinkled with tempura batter. Staff was very friendly, beer was good. Prices were atypical. Only bummer is that they don’t have a regular happy hour menu. What else would I want? I’m not seeking perfection. If it was perfect, I would have to shoot the sushi chef to bring balance to the universe. For those of you confused people, you gotta see that scene with Johnny Depp in Once Upon a time in Mexico.
