My 3rd time coming here. Each year me and my friends always have a strategy. Everyone hits up a different food truck and order enough food to share. It Saves time and we get to try more food faster. Then someone who gets their food first will look for table and save the chairs around it until the rest of us get our food. Within 2 hours of being there we were able to hit up 8 different food trucks. Surprisingly, it was not hot but a lil chilly this year. Maybe it was because it rain pretty damn hard the night before. I don’t understand why we always bring canned food but never get free parking. The free parking lot is always full! I guess the only way to get free parking is to get there an hour before the event starts. Good thing my friend drove and his car that was really small, so we got lucky and found a small opening spot right across from it all! I’ll be back next year!

I usually attend the smaller weeknight roundups, but this was my first time at the big fest(SactoMoFo 8). I could tell during the days leading up to the big event that it was truly going to be huge. 36 trucks! A map of the layout so you could plan ahead! As if we were navigating an amusement park… Bay Area trucks as well as local Sacramento flavors… but, despite all the info provided ahead of time, very unlike myself, decided to swing by and just see how it went without a plan. Firstly, we got there around 3:30PM, so an hour and half into it. There were adjacent parking lots available for a fee(minimum $ 5) but we were able to find street parking and walk over. Wasn’t aware of the parking fee waiver with canned food donation — had heard about donating to get beer though. Some of the non-food truck vendors included Happy Hour Paints(I got a $ 15 off coupon), jewelry makers, kettle corn and ice cream. Had just eaten lunch a few hours earlier and walked around to get an idea of where things were, how bad the lines were, how much items cost, etc. There was live music and tables for eating, security guards and a kiddie section in the corner with a bounce house and face painting. I was intrigued by some of the trucks like the brunch items one, the Korean/Japanese fusion, the Chairman baos of course, the paella and Argentinean empanadas. Ultimately decided to NOT divide and conquer, instead ordering a few items from one truck to share, considering the wait time. Got in line around 4pm, placed the order around 4:50pm, then got the food after 5pm. Man! We went with Cruzin Crustacean(Rudy’s Hideaway) lobster roll and the crab balls — both came with house chips, not sure if they had fries as an option too? Pretty pricey for CA standards but then again it was seafood. I mean, a lobster roll in Boston(Summer Shack or Yankee Lobster) would cost you market price, which is about $ 18.99. Basically we spent almost $ 25 for two people which wasn’t totally unreasonable, but to be honest was mostly chips. The lines were pretty crazy, big crowds of people with kids, strollers, dogs on leashes, what have you. Tables for sitting and eating once you finally got your food were only in two designated areas. Porta-potties available. The way the trucks were lined up in rows was okay, except where Chairman was only had 3 trucks facing inward so you could miss it if you were just going down the rows. On the way out passed Culinerdy Cruzer and made a mental note of their odd-sounding Peanut Butter and Pork Belly sandwich.(See my recent review after finally trying the nerdy truck! ) Had already tried Happy Cow, Sweet Spot, Wandering Boba, Drewskis, Chandos, Gameday Grill, Krush Burger, Luciano’s Scoop, etc. at other SactoMofo events previously. For dessert we migrated over to Gunther’s.

My first time coming to this event and it was AMAZING! What a great day to put on such a great food fest! Food trucks were everywhere. I arrived around 2:30pm and although the parking lot was FULLYPACKED I was able to find parking on the street once I roamed the deep neighborhoods. The location was perfect! Right in front of a huge park and at the event they even had a kids section for the young children to play with. They also had about 7 porter potty’s lined up and plenty of places to sit and eat. They had a great line up of tasty and yummy types of food trucks: Chicken and waffles, Mexican food, Thai, Popcorn, Ice cream(Yikes! my mouth is just watering thinking about all the food they had) My all time favorites were: ~Green Papaya– My number one favorite truck! I almost wanted to buy EVERYTHING here. From the Mango rice, Thai Iced Tea and Egg rolls! Whoa the lines were constantly long from the start time to the finish time! ~Chandos Taco– The Tacos were so tasty and yummy ~Costa’s Kettle Corn– I bought the Jalapeño cheddar popcorn which was S0 good! They had tons of different flavors! ~Wandering Boba– What more could I ask for! They had boba here! Yayy and it was hella bomb. Lets not forget the Adobo chicken and rice! Yum Yum Yum is all I can say! Trucks that I cant wait to try next year: ~Simply Southern Foods-BBQ ~Krush Burgers ~Cruzin Crustacean ~Frenchy’s waffles Overall, this was a great turn out. It was TONS of adults, children and dogs! Yes, the lines were long but I expected it to be long since this was a BIG event in Sacramento. Until next time Sactomofo!

We had a fantabulous time at this year’s Mofo. The hubby and I usually hit up the monthly Mofos in our neighborhood, which helped with my strategy for this one. Although I did sample from local trucks, it was all about the Bay Area trucks for me! As soon as I got there, I got in line for Koja Kitchen because I knew it was going to be one of the most popular trucks of the day. I waited in line for about an hour while the hubby walked around and brought me food to sample while I waited. Win win! Koja didn’t disappoint… the short rib and the bulgogi sammies were really amazing and the rice ‘buns’ had nice crispy edges that added just the right texture. The kamikaze fries were SO amazing as well as their take on tiramisu(called mochimisu). I will definitely look for them again next time I’m in the bay. Frozen Khusterd, another Bay Area truck, was another favorite of mine. Actually, my whole family loved them. We tried all of their flavors(vanilla bea, thai tea, coffee made with Four Barrel coffee, and cinnamon toast crunch). Luckily, there was no line when my hubby ordered our stuff which was another plus! Aw man… if you’ve never had frozen custard, you haven’t lived. And FK does it RIGHT! I’m still dreaming about that burnt caramel that topped our custard. I’m a HUGE fan now! Other items I enjoyed were the empanadas from El Porteno(I tried the mushroom and crème fraîche and the banana and dulce de leche ones and both were good), parm truffle fries from Cichy’s(they were ok), rosemary tots from Drewskis, thai tea from Wandering Boba and sammies from the Culinerdy Cruzer. Yes there were crowds upon crowds but everything flowed smoothly and parking wasn’t an issue. My hopes for next year would be more seating(even cocktail table tops would be awesome for just setting the food down and standing), and Señor Sisig making an appearance from the Bay! Other than that, the Mofo was a total success!

Awesome round up this year! Love the variety. Lots of bouncy houses for the kids, if you’re so inclined. I was impressed with the organization this year… parking was easy, and I lucked out with a nice shady spot under the freeway. Plus, I noticed when I was leaving, how they had«parking staff» who had long sticks which they would raise high so other staff could see where there were open parking spaces… that was very well done! Also love helping out local charities like front Street Animal Shelter and the Food Bank… I brought in four canned items(yeah, I only needed one) so my parking was free(woot!). And I don’t drink beer, but I did appreciate the support for Front Street Animal Shelter… I certainly hope lots of fur babies found forever homes today! Lastly, really liked all the sweets Food Truck options… The Sweet Spot, Frenchy’s Waffles, Local Kine Shave Ice, Happy Cow, Dave’s Pops, Smoothie Patrol, and many more! Awesome way to close out a great Sactomofo! :_
