Over the past 4 years, whenever I need place for lunch during workdays, this would be my go-to-place. Food was awesome and the server never forgot to put in my favorite salmon skin hand roll without me even ordering it. She already knew! Too bad this place closed down…

Well we were recommended to come here, heard they were very good. But was disappointed when we arrived @ 7:15, & they close @ 9:00 only to get turned away bc they had ran out of food/sushi idk. So if it’s only 7:15& your business hours are posted open till 9:00& to lock the doors I thought was a sure sign we probably won’t be coming back.

Food is always good here. Super understaffed though, The one waitress seems very overwhelmed and the food did take quite a long time. Always long wait times even when you’re seated. Today they were out of more than one of the menu items which I wanted to order. Was disappointing, but everything was delicious otherwise. Patience is a virtue here

I’m sorry to say that I had a very disappointing visit at Akira’s. While the ambiance and service was good, the taste was one of the worst I had in any sushi restaurant. Let me explain: We ordered Bento boxes. I ordered the grilled salmon, and my wife ordered grilled chicken teriyaki. First came the miso soup. It was too watered down and tasteless(like you were drinking hot water), and it lacked ingredients. I had a total of 2 strips of seaweed and crumbles of tofu. I’ve tasted better miso soup out of those miso soup pouches you can get at a supermarket. Then came the bento boxes. While the presentation was good, the only thing that tasted OK was the rice. The big disappointment was the tempura. The breading was not fluffy and non-existent at places. For example, there was an onion ring tempura. It tasted like a soggy tasteless western onion ring. No asian taste on it whatsoever. I had to force myself to finish them. The salad dressing was too bland, and did not have a «tangy» taste that you would get in other places. Nevertheless, the salad actually tasted OK compared to the tempura. The«grilled» salmon did not seem grilled at all. I did not see any grill marks. Otherwise, it tasted OK, just not what I expected. The California rolls were equally bland and tasteless. Definitely the most tasteless one I’ve tasted for a while. My wife’s grilled chicken tasted like paper, and the teriyaki sauce did not taste right. Very unfortunate. There were chinese items in the menu, and I can’t vouch for them, however, my thinking is that if a restaurant advertises itself as japanese, one would expect that their specialty would be. japanese, and not other non-japanese items in the menu. I’m sorry, but I think we won’t be coming back again… One can find better bento boxes at cheaper prices elsewhere; why waste money here?

Fantastic service in a family owned setting. Great food, decent portions. The menu is extensive with a lot of choices. Lunch specials are good. Try the crab puffs!

My wife and I went here for dinner on a Saturday. My advice: go here when UT is playing. It was peaceful and with good service. We enjoyed our dinner and will be back(probably on a Saturday). The aura is nice and is really tastefully done, which is big for me.

We live close by & our regular sushi placed is closed on sundays so we thought we would give Akira a shot. Ambience & service was good but we were disappointed with our food. The tofu in the miso soup was chewy, my teriyaki chicken was over cooked(the sauce tasted strange too), & my husband’s Chirashi did not look or taste fresh. Seems like most people who were dining here were ordering from the«chinese» menu & not sushi so maybe we just chose the wrong menu… most likely will not be returning.

Not sure if it’s a regional thing but the 3 different rolls I had ordered, other than the cali roll(fake crab, as usual) were filled with a fish-like paste; these were the spicy tuna, spicy escolar, spicey geisha. This place was home to the worst«SUSHI» I have ever had… ever. If ever I wanted to recreate the epicurean experience from AKIRA all I would have to do is wrap canned cat food in nori and add uncle bens rice… Then I would place it directly in the toilet.

I had lunch here. The atmosphere was nice and calm. The service was great and the server was super friendly. I had a bento box that included: a miso soup to start, teriyaki chicken, white rice, salad, half of a Cali roll, and tempura veggies. Large amount of food for a minimal price with different options for the box. The teriyaki chicken was very good, the Cali roll tasted very fresh, and the batter on the tempura veggies was nice and light. Everything tasted fresh and was hot. I would definitely go back again to try more menu items. Because it was lunch, it was important that service was fairly quick. We were in and out in no time.

Love this place! Great food and Susan is awesome! I’ve become a regular here and I love that I created a relationship with them unlike some big chain restaurants. If your vegetarian try the sesame tofu it’s to die for :)

Great food and great service without the hassle and long waits of the downtown sushi restaurants. Have been here several times and have always had a great experience. Definitely recommend!

Do not order anything Mongolian. Its 1⁄6 meat and 5⁄6 onions. It does have good flavor. Talked to the manager who said that is how Mongolian food is, all onion and 5 oz on meat.

The ambience is nice, is priced appropriately, however it tastes like it came from a gas station. I had a lunch bento that was devoid of all flavor. Salt and pepper people! The Dragon roll was cute but had no flavor. The teriyaki chicken tasted boiled with some watered down sauce. It was just bland.

Akira is awesome! We have been going there since they first opened and make in at least once a month. It is a locally owned restaurant and Akira and Susan(owners) always stop by to catch up on what is happening in our lives. The sushi is great my favorite is the Tiger Eye and Susan even got me started on sashimi. If you are not in the mood for sushi the crab ragoon is great. I have to admit my favorite menu item is a desert, the ice cream puffs are beyond spectacular. If you live in Round Rock do yourself a favor and support a local business and try Akira.

Akira, sorry, this was a bad experience. We live nearby and decided to risk eating here. Sushi on 620 in middle of nowhere? Lots of red flags but we proceeded anyway. The sushi was ok, at best. One of the rolls, Geisha Roll, was terrible. It was drowned in some kind of sticky goo sauce, awful. Prices were very high. Service was slow, only one waitress working. Ended up paying $ 50 bucks and we left hungry, very disappointing. I hate leaving negative reviews. But this place asked for it. I suggest Akira revamp their sushi menu, hire more staff, and spruce up the place. Lots of work needed here to get this place up to speed. Avoid at all costs. Go elsewhere.

Wanted a quick lunch, close to home for pick-up. Akira came to mind so I called and ordered the KungPao Chicken with hot & sour soup. Steamed rice and an eggroll topped it off. The soup portion was a little small, but is was full of flavor and veggies. One of the better hot & sour soups I’ve had. The kung pao sauce was pretty typical, but just the right amount of spice. Plenty of onions and bell peppers and a lot of chicken. There was a double portion of steamed rice, so sharing would have been very easy. BTW — when I picked up my order, the hostess was very nice and recommended the szechuan beef or chicken. Maybe later this week!

Went there a few nights ago. Service is very friendly and the atmosphere is really chill. My wife and split fried rice a California roll, spicy shrimp roll and a spicy crab roll; all of which were very good. In the past I’ve also had a bento box with teriyaki chicken which was generously portioned. Their posted hours can be misleading. On a slow night, don’t be surprised if they close up shop 15 – 30 minutes earlier than posted. Good food, good price. Worth a look!

I just wasn’t feeling this place. The people were so nice, the décor was nice, and they do have A LOT of items on their menu besides sushi. I honestly love sushi of all types: HEB to Uchi. Seriously. But, my boyfriend and I got 3 rolls to split and I couldn’t even eat 2 of them. Basically, their rolls were not made in a traditional way or actually any way I’ve ever had them. The spicy tuna was pulverized into a paste that just had the worst texture. The salmon skin was too thickly cut and was too burnt. Sigh. If you go here, get something other than sushi.

Close, Convenient, and Quality Sushi with great service. I live in the area and slowly small little businesses that are NOT nail salons are filling the shopping centers and Akira Sushi Grill & Wok is the only Sushi place for many miles. From the moment you walk in you forget that you have walked into a strip center establishment. They have decorated the place with great taste and comfort to prepare you for a great meal. The location is a simple place to take a date, or have a quiet night out away from the house and busy work life. Susan waited on us and was meticulous in providing suggestions for my taste buds and questions. I knew what I wanted, I just needed to know how I wanted it. She helped greatly. The Miso soup was good in a traditional way to start the meal, the sushi rolls were fresh and neatly rolled, and the finishing fried ice cream was made to perfection; the outside was warm and the inside was cold to temperature offering you the contrast of textures and the tastes of sweetness. All in all a VERY affordable meal and time well spent in a nice quite place that is right off a busy street. So the next time you are in the neighborhood, stop by Akira and see why they are getting great reviews and why they are the ONLY Sushi place for miles around.
