If you are in this area you NEED to pull in and grab some food from the original standing room. This is A1, 5 stars, la crème de la crème burger/sandwich joint. We ordered the dressed burger and soft shell crab sandwich, with a portion of the truffle parmesan fries. Take me back! Writing this review I am salivating at the thoughts. The burger was the messy kinda burger that needs a knife and fork, it had a big runny egg on it. The soft shell crab sandwich was delicious with avocado added into the mix. The fries were unreal. Best parmesan fries I’ve ever had, they had flakes of seaweed sprinkled in. A really lovely twist. Tip: Although it’s called the standing room, they have an outdoor shaded patio area where you can eat. Parking: There is a small lot beside the premises. Don’t drive by this place. Go in. Immediately.

I had the classic burger and parmesan fries and I must say it was the best burger/Fries I’ve had in a long time.. I highly recommend this place …

If you’re looking for a high end burger then this is the place. Despite being inside of a liquor store the food is very good. The only reason I gave this place four stars out of five is it’s quite expensive. But on the other hand the burgers are quite tasty. I would have posted a photo but I was too hungry and the food was too good. Sorry you just going to have to give this one a try and judge for yourself.

The fries really are good. Also a nice selection of drinks since it is a liquor store. They don’t do protein style hamdburgers, which is the only drawback since I don’t do gluten.

Probably one of the best burgers you can get in the South Bay. Probably. Some of the charm of this place is the sort of underdog type feel. It’s a little burger stand located in a modest liquor store. It’s garnered the love of the local populace and is now a food destination for those who aren’t local. Who doesn’t love a good underdog success story? Probably best burger in the South Bay. Why not 5 stars? It’s a little on the spendy side. Not to say it’s not worth it, but when you’re 15 – 25 bucks out the door for a burger and fries, it’s probably not going to be in regular rotation. Additionally, the burgers and sandwiches here are good, some are great; however I think they fall victim to being overly complicated at times. When you pile too many ingredients, flavors can get lost. Which is a shame because some things they have like the pulled pork carnitas, etc could really shine bright if it wasn’t bogged by 10 ingredients. Case in point: The Shortie. Minimal ingredients, maximum flavor. Now, there is a certain novelty to a 20 dollar ‘kitchen sink’ burger like the Napoleon. Definitely a worthy entry on any burger bucket-list.

Awesome hole in the wall place! Thanks to all of the Unilocalers that reviewed this place!!! I had just gotten off the plane from San Fran to LA and had been starving because I had a late night and early morning. So what did I do? I looked for the nearest place to eat from my hotel! Thanks to all the Unilocaler reviews, I decided to find this place and give it a try! Unilocal did not disappoint! LOCATION: A few blocks away from Redondo beach… Tucked and attached next to a convenient store… So small you could miss it! SERVICE: The owner is such a sweetheart! He’s from Hawaii too! He made great suggestions for us being that it was our first time! ATMOSPHERE: Ok this place is literally a hole in the wall. You walk into the convenient store and order food… And u can pick it up outside thru this hole in the wall… Lol! They have some tables next to parking lot that you can use to eat your delicious food too. FOOD: My two friends had the DRESSED burger and I had the OSCAR Sammie. We ate EVERYTHING! Oh and we shared TRUFFLEFRIES. Plus this is the owners favorites! UnilocalREVIEWEDANDAPPROVED!

I went here with my gf to try it out. I was craving a burger and the pictures looked great! When I got there I was surprised by the amount of variety between the burgers. I was tempted to order the top ones(the Napoleon or one other) but I decided to keep it small. I ended up ordering the chance burger, extra spicy. I like spicy foods and wasn’t expecting much from the spices, but I was pleasantly surprised to get a good burn from the hot sauce they used and the jalepeno. It was a great burger in line with my expectations. It wasn’t much to look at but it was good and flavorful(although the meat could have been a bit more seasoned … Although this could have been affected by the burn in my mouth!)

With over 1200 reviews what can I say that hasn’t ALREADY been said over 1200 times? Hmmm Probably nothing but I am going to give it a try anyway so bear with me. My little cuz and her hubby had invited me and the bf out to dinner and this was the place they picked. PERFECT since I had been wanting to try this place for a LONGWHILE except I’m really never in the area much. Plus I was a bit confused at WHERE this place was actually located. So here is the skinny. This place is located INSIDE of a liquor store so YOUARENOT going to see it just driving by. But there is a sign outside. The kicker is it DOESN’T look like a burger stand ATALL it looks like LIQUORSTORE. That said there is a small walk up window outside near the parking and they have a few table outside to eat at as well. Parking is quite tight. And when I say tight I mean butt hole tight. I remember the lot being full with ONLY4 or 5CARS parked and two of them belonged to my cuz and I. I think the other parking spot that was available was a handy-dandy(handicapped). But there is parking along the street since this place is located on the corner. I had just returned from South Korea and wasn’t really eating much. Lets just say life had kicked in my teeth and pulled out clumps of hairs thus I didn’t have an appetite. I knew I needed to get something so I could try it. We pre-ordered with my cuz which worked out well. I believe your supposed to go inside and order and then you can also select a drink which you pay for at the LIQUORSTORECOUNTER. I got a sammie, someone got the Napoleon, other person got the Chance Burger and I can’t remember what the last person got. We waited for our food which came up in no time. It was a warm summer evening but this place was near the ocean so there was a slight breeze. Our food was up in no time and we went to grab a seat outside. We walked out with about 4GI-NORMOUSBAGS of HOTFOOD! OMG! These burgers felt like they weighted a ton. WHAT could be in the bags. We get to the tables and the ONLY item that was pretty easy to navigate was the sammie. And it was GOOD! VERYFILLING for me especially since I wasn’t super hungry plus I split it was Legg’s. I think had I had my normal appetite I could have finished the entire thing alone. Now for the burgers… Each one was in its OWN bag. We ripped them down the middle to expose the YUMMYGOODNESS! I have NEVERSEENANYTHING like it before in my life! There were HUGEPIECESOFMEAT and buns for days! I distinctly remember my cousin having to cut the burger-terger in half just to try and pick it up. It was MASSIVE! Truffle fries pouring out all over and the burger nestled all comfy cozy inside the fries. Her hubby was able to manage his burger but it was DEFINITELY a two hand job. OMG! Everyone enjoyed there food. I can always tell when there is NO or hardly any talking. Plus I think we were all amazed at the sheer size of theses things. Legg’s took his burger home for later and had some for bfast. I say some because it was again so MASSIVE and it had those truffle fries with it. I can’t remember the name but it came with short rib and a burger and truffle fries. Go find it on the menu. He had half the burger part for bfast. Then he had the other half I think for dinner. He gobbled both half’s down like a starving hostage. Then there was the short rib part that I believe he made a sandwich with later because there was enough to do so. GREATBURGERS and GREATFOOD! Enough to feed an army!

I’ve had this burger spot booked marked for some time and was excited to try it since I was in the area. Location: park at the liquor store and walk in to the back to place your order. Drinks can be bought from the store and each accept credit cards. Food: it was okay! My burger tasted like it had day old bacon and onion rings. So disappointing. My boyfriend on the other hand liked his burger. I wouldn’t come back since there are better options out there. Sorry

You should definitely try the Napoleon. It’s a bit pricey, but you’re not going to the Standing Room for a $ 5 burger. It comes with a beef and brisket patty topped off with an egg and truffle fries. Obviously, it has the all the trimmings of a normal burger as well. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone, especially if you live in the south bay! It’s a perfect place to stop by if your near the pier or take your friends who are visiting from out of town. They definitely do not make burgers like this anywhere else.

Legit burger shop in the back of a convenience store? Yes. Be sure to share the burgers with at least one other person, although the Napoleon burger could have easily fed 4 people. It’s pretty expensive for a burger, but justified since it’s lunch for 4. Napoleon burger layers:(takes at least 15 – 20 minutes to make!) Top bun fried egg(think yolk porn) large burger patty generous short ribs CA king size bed of truffle fries arugula bottom bun(if you can find it under all the glory) Great outdoor seating

//3.5 stars The Standing Room is the epitome of a hole-in-the-wall establishment. You order in the back of the adjacent liquor store and pickup at the window outside. This is the kind of place that has super-size portions, but I was still surprised by the super-size prices(ranges from $ 7 – 18.50). There are two $ 18.50 burgers, however I hear two people can share it. I may be as daring to try that the next time I come. I was in awe of the extensive menu of burgers, sandwiches and sides. I couldn’t decide what to order, but definitely made a rookie mistake on my first visit. You don’t order a sandwich(me) at a place known for their burgers! Their food is Hawaiian/Asian-influenced using ingredients like Korean marinated beef, braised short rib, kimchee dip and furikake. — I ordered the Portobello Sandwich, which wasn’t as satisfying. It may be just me, but I didn’t dig the raspberry vinaigrette flavors with the seared portobello slices and smoked gouda. The whole time I was eyeing my friend’s burgers. — Parmesan Truffle Fries topped with Furikake is a must get to be shared amongst a group. Pickup your order at the outside window and dine at several tables or standing decks outside. I came in the morning so there wasn’t a wait, but I hear it picks up later in the day and the wait can be long. The rest of the menu intrigues me. Too bad I didn’t like my sandwich. Next time I’m coming back, I’m ordering a burger! elps others learn about great local businesses.

The sheer amount of beef that this place uses for their burgers is jaw dropping. It must be at least a pound per burger. It’s nice when the patty is bigger than the top bun. Prepared to order and the juicy as hell. Grab some napkins because these burgers start clean and end up messy. They start at $ 10 a pop and go up to around $ 18 but they sure are worth the extra dough. I ordered the Cash Burger which was topped with cheddar cheese, a crispy fried onion ring, marinated shishito peppers and a soy type of glaze. The melted gooey mess that is the cheese gets everywhere. I was hoping the peppers would pack a punch but they were kind of mild but still noteworthy. I should of added the garlic aioli spread to my burger but it was a rookie mistake. The Chance Burger however is very spicy. It’s not for the faint of heart. It made my girlfriend and I both sweat.

Gourmet burgers in the back of a liquor store! Who woulda thunk it?!! Thanks to all the excitement of my Unilocal friends’ check-ins and a majority of high ratings, I just had to try this place. A rating of 4.5 stars and 1,289 reviews to date speaks volumes. The Standing Room is in back of a liquor store located close to the beach with limited parking on the premises. Just a few spaces and we managed to snag a spot otherwise, it would have been street parking along Catalina. You proceed to order in the back and are given a number and pay at the front register. We visited on a Saturday afternoon and there were maybe 4 patrons ahead of us. I decided on the Cash Burger sans the jalapeños on a ½ pound patty. The burgers are pricey. Ingredients are likely locally sourced and from the phenomenal taste of the burger and ingredients, they don’t skimp on the quality. It is a bit of a wait for the burgers. Our wait was about 15 minutes or so and in those 15 or so, my burger was cooked to perfection. These are not little burgers! I had to use my fork and knife. Cash burger is on the money. Truffle fries did not disappoint whatsoever. Truffle oil and the Japanese seaweed rice seasoning gives the fries such nice flavors. I enjoyed my burger at the outdoor table with the umbrella on a beautiful day in Redondo Beach. In the competitive arena for the South Bay burgers, the Standing Room is definitely a heavy hitter. Cheers! Thanks for reading!

Having heard much about The Standing Room for it’s unique set-up, excellent chef, and savory burgers, I ventured over here while in south Redondo Beach. Be prepared to stand. Be prepared to wait. Located both in Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach, the Standing Room at this location is located within a liquor store. With no more than 10 parking spots, you’ll be able to order inside the store and get your burgers handed to you through a small window outside. A few tables and stools are located for those wishing to eat it there, which I recommend. However, be aware that you’ll need a jacket to counter that windy ocean breeze and seasonally cold temperatures. I ordered the Hapa burger, although most seem to order the Napoleon. The burger contained some spring mix(similar to what you may find in a grocery store), onion, scallions, sesame leaf, spicy vin, fried egg, and Korean gouchu Q(whatever sauce that is). This burger took about 10 minutes, perhaps longer, to make. Upon receiving the box, of which all are to go, I saw a mushed up burger that looked like someone sat on it for a week. I still ate the hell out of it. Why? After my first bite, I realize this burger was one of the best in Southern California beating out the odds of Umami, The Tripel, and Father’s Office. This burger wasn’t about presentation, as you may have guessed by the liquor storefront. It’s about the damn good burger. While I don’t recommend the spicy fries, many people tend to gravitate towards the parmesan fries. The spicy fries are too spicy. For both fries, you’ll note that they are lightly doused with their toppings. In other words skip or share these with your pals, so that you have more time to make love to what this place is all about: your burger.

Being a self proclaimed connoisseur of gourmet burgers, I really had super high hopes for this place. I guess if I could explain this place in one word it would be… LOTS! That’s it. Just LOTS! You get a good portion. Can’t deny that. Especially with their ‘conqueror’ burgers in napoleon and genghis khan. At $ 20 each, you’re getting some major meat. However, that’s about it. Flavors were good but didn’t necessarily compliment each other. Most ingredients were quality but just didn’t ‘pop’ and mend well together like it should. Let’s break it down. Genghis khan: fries a nice touch but the Korean meat wasn’t as tender as it should have been. Napoleon: short rib meat wins here. It was the standout meat if the night. Nice and moist and flavorful. Hapa: nice spicy sweet combo. Truffle fries: decent but nothing to write home about. Fried Brussels: my favorite side here. Loved these! I’d write home about them. BUNS: Generally I wouldn’t write about buns alone but these need mention. I’m not a big bun guy(in most situations, not all) but what the heck is going on with their buns? The best burgers I’ve had had nice soft buns that are lightly toasted. Not sure if they just had an off day but their buns were dry and tasted like those dinner rolls that you need to use a whole stick of butter on to eat. Sorry but if you’re going to get into the gourmet burger business, you gotsta have good buns hun! Overall I think this is a good place if you want quantity. I probably wouldn’t have been so critical if I haven’t had such other amazing burgers, but I know what’s out there. This place is good, not great. A-OK for what you get for your money.

Impressive burgers from this small joint that’s apart of a liquor store. This actually reminded me of Busy Bee in San Pedro with it being attached to a store. Like them, great food was prepared in such a small space. Great food I’d most definitely drive the distance for again as this is located in Redondo Beach and I’m in the Paramount/Downey area. I ordered the Cash Burger with soft shell crab added. I couldn’t resist paying the extra $ 5 for the soft shell crab. It made for a great surf & turf and I love that stuff. For the burger, it was delicious. Great flavor and very feeling. I also ordered the truffle parmesan fries. Even after being full, I found myself continuing to eat the fries. Good stuff! These burgers would please any burger lover. There’s two other burgers here I want to try but until then, the cash burger is my recommendation. Dinner 11/15/2015

Did you hear that McDonald killed Burger King in front of Five Guys who witnessed it all in front of The Counter? Long story short, it was all over that darn girl Wendy. The funeral will be held at White Castle which I will be attending with Dairy Queen. Ok enough with the jokes as the burgers at The Standing Room is no joke! As it was my first time here, I asked the cashier and the cook what they recommended and the cook said«get the Cash Burger!» Cash burger($ 10) it is I said and I will have some of those Truffle Parmesan Fries($ 6.00) too. Just an FYI if you didn’t know, this burger place is located inside the liquor store. I find it amazing just how many good places to eat is actually found inside a liquor store. I had to wait about 10 minutes to get my fries and burger(hey they said all good things comes to those who wait) and there it was, a huge burger and those nicely seasoned truffle Parmesan fries that had a nice coat of cheese and a sprinkle of furukake(dried seaweed thingy that Asians put on their rice which is awesome). The Cash burger has bacon, shishito pepper, cheese, a BBQ hoisin, aioli sauce to die for, topped off with a huge onion ring. It just took one bite and I was like daaaaaaang! Yes it was a slap yo mama moment good. Next time I find myself in this neck of the woods I will for sure be coming back to The Standing Room. I just hope they have some shirts I can buy as they were out of the black ones. For some ideas of what to order you can check out their link for the menu:

3.5 stars. A small sandwich shop located inside of a liquor store. Enter the liquor store, order at the counter, and proceed to get your food & eat outside the liquor store. I don’t think they have complimentary water so you might have to buy it at the liquor store. Napoleon — $ 19 — Decent. 3.5÷5 The Napoleon is decent. It’s pretty much a massive burger about the size of 2 fists. It’s topped w/fried egg, hamburger patty, short ribs, aioli, and 2 – 3 different types of cheese. It’s served on top of a bed of fries. I enjoyed the Napoleon. It’s pretty darn massive and easily big enough for 2 to share. The best part is the short ribs. The hamburger patty itself tasted okay. It’s definitely something neat to order but next time I might get something more«normal.» I also wished I read the order and discovered it came w/fries, otherwise I wouldn’t have ordered garlic fries in addition to the burger; my own fault. TIPS: –No bathrooms –Plan on eating outside or to go –Parking sucks. Neighborhood parking.\ –Bring your water/drinks
