We had an awesome grilled cheese here and the Mac and cheese is great too. I’ve tried their cheeses at home on a grilled cheese too and it was fantastic. I would definitely recommend this place to people who want dairy free cheese.

Vtopia was an incredible vegan dining experience. My brother(non-vegan) and I tried the fancy mac n’ cheese, which he proclaimed was the best mac n’ cheese he had ever had, vegan or not. That’s a big deal! We also got the club sandwich, which was an explosion of flavors and textures… and also non-vegan brother approved. They also sell Miyoko’s Creamery cheeses, which can be hard to get your hands on when you’re from Florida like me. We were going to get a cheese plate, but it looked too big for just two people. However, if you come in with four or more, I would suggest getting a cheese plate and a bottle of wine! Don’t let the vegan label scare you– this food is amazing.

1 star = the Caesar salad dressing was soooo good. Next time, I’ll ask them to add bacon. 1 star = best Mac n Cheese I’ve had in Portland 1 star = they sell one of the widest variety of vegan cheeses I’ve seen, including aged cheeses 1 star = great location, and right next door to homegrown 1 star = perfect vegan Reuben This was a big success. My favorite eating establishment in Portland.

Absolutely loved the Mac and cheese best vegan one I’ve ever had. Also ordered the club panini it was delicious as well. Wish I lived in Portland so I could get all my vegan cheeses here

Horrible service. Waited almost an hour for a cheese tray. We watched people who came in after us get their order taken and receive their food first. After we finally got served, we sat for a while without crackers and bread because the server never checked in with us. Took forever to get the bill too. All three deli meats tasted the same, cheeses all needed salt. Disappointing.

Have wanted to try this for some time and when we did go, it did not live up to the hype. I will say that I prefer and am used to eating veggies and fruits and not a bunch or faux animal products… although I do like NATIVE Foods. It was not busy when we arrived, there was one other person standing by the display case. We were seated promptly(advised to seat ourselves) and order a water and a stout. I was brought an Arnold Palmer and said repeatedly I had ordered a water. «Do you still want a water?» She asked. DUH, «YES! «We ordered the 5 cheese platter with the deli meats, a garden salad with French dressing and a grilled cheese, side salad w/tomato cream soup & ranch dressing on the side. It took. a very longtime for our food to arrive. Half the order was cheese and crackers! A woman at the next table in a party of three also had an unusually long wait, while her friends were eating. On the cheese platter the Camembert really stood out. It was very buttery and paired nicely with the blueberry preserves. The smoked cheddar and chive & dill cheeses rated second or third since we rated them differently and lastly my dining partner liked the Dark chocolate strawberry brie, which did not impress me. The brie did not stand out. So 4⁄5 isn’t two bad. The deli meats, haym, salami and pepperoni were nothing we’d try again. The Haym was really sweet, the salami too salty, and the pepperoni wasnt very pronounced, and I preferred that one. However the texture on all three were good. I guess we are just not into faux deli meats. We were only offered more crackers and bread when we asked for our check. By then many of the tables were taken, so it did get busier but it wasn’t crazy busy. Now for the grilled cheese. It wasn’t toasted much and the cheese was like congealed cheezy sauce and cold. It was tangy, but not as cheddary as I had expected. Personally I like my own cheezy sauce much better. The salad was only made up of greens and the ranch was thin, but tasted okay. NATIVE Foods ranch is superior by far. I cannot comment on my soup as I never recieved it. The bill was $ 48, pricy but there was a beer and the cheeses are handcrafted. The waitress was friendly but messed up the order twice, so we got our coffee down the street at Starbucks as we didn’t want to wait any longer our have another order acrewd up. I would go back only if I can’t find the Camembert anywhere else and to try the Ceaser Salad.

Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, but I wasn’t really feeling my order. I was easily persuaded by their Instagram post of freshly baked buttermilk biscuits — they were good, but not necessarily mind blowing. The fancy Mac and cheese was alright. Maybe I was expecting the cheese to overflowth, but that was not the case. Looking at other tables, I think I should’ve ordered one of the sandwiches — those seem to be really popular. And something about the cheesecake, too, which sounded legit. Staff is really nice and tries their best to be attentive.

Vtopia is easily my favorite artisan vegan cheese. It’s great to now live in a world where I have so many choices that I get to pick a favorite. The caramelized onion camembert is my number one favorite and the mapled seitan cheeseball is my second favorite. I also love the cranberry and chocolate/strawberry brie. It’s fun to grab a friend and go get a sampler of deliciousness! Share a panini while you’re at it. I brought a non-vegan friend here and she loved it. Vtopia is great! Vegan cheese has come a LONG way. Even if you aren’t vegan, go and get some of the best cheese around.

I LOVEVTOPIA! I can’t recommend this place enough! If you love cheese but are lactose intolerate, fear no more! Vtopia is here! I went here for the first time last year in September. My friend and I walked here from Zidell Yards where they had the Vegan Beer Fest, so I’m not sure how the parking is. We had the bacon camembert panini – holy smokes, it was incredible! We also had a cheese platter with some of the most amazing cheeses I’ve ever had! My most fav was the Punk Raw Labs cheese. Vegan or not, you will love them! They’re absolutely magical! The owners are a sweet couple who took time to talk to us out-of-towners. They gave us recommendations on what to order and also gave suggestions to other restaurants. How cool is that? I can’t wait to go back here in June! This place alone is worth the trip from LA. Definitely one of my all-time favorite restaurants!

Best vegan cheese I’ve ever had anywhere. Nothing sold in stores remotely compares! The Vtopia club is also the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten, even when I was an omnivore! I would give them 6 stars if I could based on this sandwich alone.

The best cheese makers you can hope for. The menu is small but has plenty of options. Mac & Cheese is fantastic better than I’ve ever had, the sandwiches are all good, & the soups are divine. They even have some cheese cake treats for dessert. Their faux meat is from next door, it’s very good. I would like to see a bit more lighter items on the menu as it’s pretty heavy. Love the cheeses I buy at least one to go every time. Thank you for not being a chicken & going all the way Vegan for the good of our planet.

My friend and I were looking for a place for a little brunch — I have bought Vtopia cheeses in the Bay Area, so it was with great pleasure that received my friend’s suggestion that we go to Vtopia. We shocked to find parking and that there wasn’t a line out the door! I got the salami & cheese melt — it was SO delicious! My friend got the cheese plate — and we also bought a lot of vegan cheese to take home. The food was excellent — customer service was really good — and folks seemed super nice and accommodating there. Looking forward to visiting again on my next trip to Portland.

Wow, the menu is a full scale gourmet deli masterpiece. I haven’t been back since the Grand Opening when they underestimated the crowd size. The soup and sandwiches we had were on par with Blossoming Lotus. This is a must visit vegan foodie stop, and the two meat eaters we brought loved it too. I am amazed that there were open tables. Give them a go, this place deserves to make it!

Brent R’s review had me a bit worried but it sounds like his review is biased by some personal agenda with the owners. Glad we visited in spite of that review. I will take Brent’s advice and try some of the places he mentioned for comparison and am by no means belittling his experience. At any rate, I’ve been wanting to try this place as I have recently began making vegan cheeses. I was very impressed with the cheese, the presentation and perhaps mostly by our server Kenzie. She was very professional, attentive and made great recommendations. Loved the club sand and Mac/cheese. The organic IPA was a perfect compliment. We will return

I’m not sure why there isn’t a line to get in. Today we had the Mac and cheese, pear and brie sandwich, and tempeh Reuben. I’m not exaggerating when I say that it was some of the best food I’ve had. Eat food here immediately. I will drive back to Portland [from seattle] just to eat here.

I really wanted to like Vtopia, so I was saddened and very surprised to discover that the owners are extremely dishonest and super shady. If you’re a customer, they are all smiles and fake airs; but behind the scenes it’s a total 180. For being vegans, they only seem to respect and have concern for themselves and their own welfare. This being Portland, there are so many local vegan businesses run by decent people who also do good things for the vegan community that deserve your support instead of Vtopia. It’s kind of like if you love dogs you don’t support a backyard breeder. There are quite a few places around town that do mac ‘n’ cheese better(and less expensively), including Black Water, Vita, and Veggie Grill(which is not far from Vtopia in downtown SW). There are also vegan-cheese manufacturers making a better product and run by longstanding and reputable members of the vegan community like Miyoko’s Kitchen. The sandwiches are ok, a little on the bland side for the prices. I can think of a dozen places that make better sandwiches, and make them with their own house-made«meats»(Homegrown Smoker, Black Water, Vita, Snackrilege, Brass Tacks…)

OMG so many vegan cheeses. It’s overwhelming. It’s like heaven served in vegan cheese form. So many options, all are great but the aged cheddar is like the best cheese I’ve ever tasted. The staff is awesome too. Asked a zillion questions Bc I was such a vegan fan girl and the person was totally helpful

I came here while I was in town for the PDX Vegan Beer Fest and it was everything I wanted it to be. First, vtopian makes my favorite vegan cheeses and it’s not always easy to find them in the bay area. Here, you get your choice of all their cheese plus many other vegan cheeses made by other companies. But even better, they have a moderate selection of deli-style food items. When I was there, I got the reuben panini. I took that to go, as I was heading to the airport, and it was incredible. The flavors of all the ingredients were on point, especially that melty cheese. Can’t wait to come back here and try out more. Next time, I will be leaving extra room in my luggage for a vegan cheese haul.

Just a freakin lovely beautifully energetic spot with gorgeous cheese plates and heavenly vegan paninis. Bjork music serenading me as I sat down next to tender wall hangings of turkeys, chickens, rams, cattle. The cheese case is beguilingly tempting with combinations that make me swoon. Macadamia cashew cheese?!! Loving service. Definitely a restaurant I support. This Goose Hollow neighborhood joint is a gem.

It’s a vegan cheese shop. With friendly owners/employees, a nice space, and quality products(their own and others). Obviously it’s going to be 5-stars on Unilocal! But really, the experience of eating there was great. So chill and pleasant, with genuine enthusiasm and care. One of our party even asked about ingredients and we were helped graciously. The cheeses of course were mouthwatering, and I was able to pick up a few varieties of Vtopian cheeses that I can’t get in Berkeley. Awesome!
