We stopped in this place just after we arrived in Portland for the weekend. I had the Portuguese fried rice on recommendation from reviews and the waitress and it really was excellent. The staff was extra friendly too! :)

Our family of 5 ate here on a Sunday morning. It was busy but we didn’t have to wait for a seat. The Portuguese Fried Rice was too interesting to pass up. It was great. The sausage was a little too salty for me but since it was separate I could integrate as much as I wanted. My kids had the pancakes. The pancakes came in large portions and were DELISH. My wife had the fried egg sandwich that looked amazing. All were overly generous portions and the service was top-notch. The have a full bar and full service coffee bar if you desire a caffeine or alcohol fix with your food.

I’m a diner junkie by heart, unfortunately the 2 places I wanted to go are closed on Mondays. Walking by Cheryl’s I decided to give it a try. Greeted with a smile and hot coffee. Waiter was Skyler., he did a great job. Ordered biscuits and gray. Not what I expected… It was one huge biscuit with gravy with two eggs over medium. It was excellent! Definitely a comfort food. I recommend it… Especially if hungry. See the pic… Yes I’m a fan of hot sauce. All entries look very good. I’ll be back. Probably a super busy place Saturday and Sunday… So unless you’re her by 9 … Not sure if I’d have the patience to wait They maximize table space… This place would be crowded. During the week… Hell yes. Given the type of place … The prices are reasonable… Do not expect diner prices people! Enjoy!

Sooo soo good. Came here while on a mini vacation in Portland. The food was so great that we actually came here twice! First time I had the bacon and cheddar omelette with the cheesy hash browns and English muffin. I want to learn the recipe for these hash browns just so I can make them at home! The jelly they have on the table is amazing as well. They give you complimentary beignets which are great for dipping in the jelly! The second time I had the mornay omelette with cheesy hash browns(again) and the English muffin(why fix what isn’t broke?). Two times in a row breakfast was amazing. The décor is super cute, great service and fun environment. I love Cheryl’s and want to come here each time that I’m in Portland!

I absolutely love Cheryl’s on 12th. I was invited here by a friend for lunch last summer and have returned multiple times with my own friends and family. I usually get the Portuguese Fried Rice and Huevos Rancheros, but have tried a few bites of the salmon benedict, french toast, croque monsieur, and the fried egg sandwich. Each bite you take is consistently delicious all around. I especially like how they serve the local Portland Aardvark hot sauce and complimentary beignets when you sit down. What a nice little treat! The service does not fluctuate as well — all the servers have been super friendly, funny, and knowledgable. Additionally, the most I’ve ever waited on a weekend for brunch is 15 minutes!

Came here unexpectedly for brunch with my girlfriends! Walked in with a party of 5 on a Sunday and it was busy, but we got seated within minutes! Brunch is served until 4pm! They had a wide selection of choices! I ordered the Portuguese fried rice! Delicious! A little bland, but great with some hot sauce! My friend ordered the Salmon Eggs Benedict! Also, very tasty! Great and friendly service and food came out quickly! Definitely will be coming back!

My friends and I originally planned to eat at Tasty n Alder, but ended up here. I ain’t mad! Eggs sardou + CHEESYPOTATOES!!! This dish is everything I love — cheese, potatoes, poached eggs, and spinach and artichoke covered in sauce so I get the feeling of eating healthy(because vegetables, you know)?? Yesssss Complimentary beignets were nice too! Great service with a cozy and welcoming atmosphere!

Croque Madame(breakfast sandwich) was more stuffed than I expected, but halfway through it, I realized how much more I liked it than the first bite. Second trip here convinces me it’s hard to get a bad meal at Cheryls. Consistency, may not rhyme with perfection, but it has its virtues.

Portuguese fried rice… oh… how I love Portuguese sausages. Alright, enough of my day dreaming. Staff is friendly, food is decent, cute décor, but they sat us near the kitchen entrance or staff area, or something, and the smell of chlorine and cleaning products made it really hard for me to enjoy my meal. The rice was a little undercooked and had it not been for the extra sunny side up eggs that I mixed into the portugese fried rice, I think it would have been hard to eat. Overall it’s a decent brunch place, but it didn’t blow me away. I think the biggest problem is what some of the other reviewers had stated… I read the menu and the descriptions make you imagine something in your head that you really want to put in your mouth and forget the world exists… but the dish that comes out just doesn’t deliver to your expectations so you leave a little sad and disappointed.

Service was excellent: warm, friendly, helpful. Location is excellent: we had a view of outside and it was great to people watch. My entrée was not so excellent. I ordered this off the menu: «SALMONBARBACOA — charbroiled salmon with a carribean-style barbecue glaze(served with two sides).» After reading this description, I imagined a robust, spicy-sweet complex profile of flavors in a translucent glaze painted on the top of a delicious blackened filet. My imaginings fell by the wayside when instead I received a thick slather of BBQ sauce like you might get out of a bottle of KC. It was overly sweet and had no flavor or «Caribbean» profile to speak of. The salmon itself was bland(no seasoning, marinade, grilled taste, etc.). I was sorely disappointed as I love salmon. Unfortunately, this was a clunker and I would not recommend this entrée. You’re allowed two sides with this entrée so I picked the curried pea salad and french fries. The flavor profile of the curried pea salad was very good but the textures were cold, hard, and crunchy. The french fries were nice and crisp and served with chipotle aioli on the side which was tasty. All in all: I’m glad we tried this place since it’s been on my list. I would definitely come back again but would ignore the more creative options on the menu due to the execution. I would limit my choices to standard breakfast/brunch items: eggs, bacon, hash browns, etc. — looking around at what other people ordered this appears to be their strong suit.

I stumbled upon this place by accident and I’m glad I did. Let’s start off by saying the staff is extremely friendly and the food is very delicious! I recommend their Mexican Mocha and their Portuguese fried rice!

Twice I’ve tried to dine at Tasty n Alder, only to find the wait too long for hungry diners. The only upside to that situation is that I have discovered other nearby places. This time, it was Cheryl’s. We ordered the corned beef hash, Portuguese fried rice, and one of the eggs benedict-like dishes(the one with creamed spinach & artichoke). The latter two were very good. Corned beef hash was not good. However, this is the only restaurant where I’ve ever experienced management noticing that we made a face about a dish and coming up to find out what was wrong. Major kudos to them! I’ve had waiters notice that we didn’t touch our food, but this guy really reacted fast just because we looked unenthused. The manager quickly took away the corned beef hash and comped us a biscuits and gravy serving(we didn’t ask for a replacement). The biscuits and gravy was legit. I also recommend the cheesy hash browns. Is it a destination? Not necessarily, but if in the area and you want a cute diner-like spot where the service is excellent and the food more good than bad, it’s a solid spot.

Last time we visited Portland, we went to Tasty and Alder and that was pretty good. This place is nearby and I like it even better. Croque Monsieur was the bomb. I chose the cheesy hash browns over the roasted red potatoes and it was the best decision I made that day besides letting my cousin take us to Cheryl’s. I was confused about the cornflakes on the cheesy hash browns but that side was probably the best side of hash browns I’ve ever had in my life. I made the mistake of picking up the first part of the sandwich to eat it like a savage while everybody around me ate with a fork and knife. I tried that way on the second half and it worked a lot better because I didn’t have to wipe my hands on the napkin every time I put down the sandwich. I’ve also heard that the mac and cheese and mashed potatoes are awesome. 12⁄12 would Cheryl’s again.

Cheryl’s is my favorite neighborhood spot for a good meal, and there is nothing in the world that is better when you are sick than a bowl of vegan chili to go! I have recently moved from my apartment which was located two blocks from Cheryl’s, so I haven’t been able to go as much as planned, but on a trip downtown today, we popped in for brunch and I immediately regretted ever moving away from this place. Cheryl’s has the perfect French-American motif with awesome, homemade food. Comfort food with a taste of Portland. Favorites include the vegan chili, curried pea salad, and their cheesy hash browns on the brunch menu. Pricing is fair and the recent addition of fries to the menu makes it basically perfect. The menu has a little bit of everything so it’s a great place to go with family. They are always either busy with a wait time or totally empty, so calling ahead is a good idea. We have never waited long though! Brunch is best for no other reason than that they serve fresh beignets while you wait for your meal. Definitely opt for the cheesy hash browns! Cheryl’s will always be a favorite for me!

Service was excellent! Even though there were a million people waiting, the hostess remembered who we were after we checked in and approached us when the table was ready. My boyfriend and I came here for a 2nd breakfast on a recent trip to Portland and ordered the corned beef hash brown and a bowl of chili. I wasn’t impressed by the food… But maybe we didn’t order the right things. My favorite thing was probably the free beignets. Wish we could’ve ordered more of those. They tasted slightly like fried chicken. I loved it! It’s a very cute restaurant, and if I lived here, I’d give it a 2nd try.

My boyfriend and I visited Cheryl’s on a recent morning before we knew we’d be drinking a lot of beer. The reviews were fantastic so we were disappointed when our experience was pretty lackluster. The waitress seemed bored, and literally asked us if we wanted coffee 1,000 times. I think she was actually offended we said no. I had the huevos rancheros and they were pretty good, but also closer to room temperature than to hot. He had a green chile omelet which he said was«good». I would not return even though I am curious why the other reviews are so great!

Great breakfast or brunch spot a block away from Tasty and Adler. #restaurantreview #portland #brunch It’s casual; you order at the counter and hey bring the food to you. Brightly lit and diner-like, but with fresh, beautiful food unlike what you would associate with«diner» grub. My colleague loved the french dip. Vegan chili was delicious. Great salads with different protein options. The desserts looked tasty too, though we didn’t try.

I discovered this place while visiting Portland with friends, ever since then, every time I come to Portland I come to Cheryl’s. The food is amaaaaazing and they have a big variety to pick from. The owner Cheryl and her husband are absolutely delightful and so sweet! Me and my boyfriend are regulars here and every time we come Cheryl makes us feel like family, so welcome and taken care of! The food tastes fresh and is served very quickly, and never disappoints. bee always have to ask for a box because of the amount of food and secretly so we can enjoy it again at home Their desserts are beautiful and delicious as well. I highly recommend this place, if you are ever in Portland, this is a breakfast/lunch/brunch place you HAVE to try.
