Clifford Koufman’s Djembe classes are so enjoyable! Clifford teaches the traditional African rhythms in a supportive, friendly environment. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and patience make him an excellent instructor. Highly recommended!

A year ago I gave my husband a beginning class for his birthday. Clifford asked if I wanted to stay and drum, too. We were hooked on the magic and power and fun in that first class and all these months later are very happy to be a part of the Sound & Rhythm family of drummers. Clifford is an amazing teacher, who never loses sight of the goal: to have fun. A part of that is challenging ourselves to do what we think we can’t, and getting the feeling of satisfaction that only comes from learning something new. There is no way to lose taking a class with Clifford. We hope to meet you there.

I stumbled across Sound & Rhythm last fall when looking to take snare/drum set lessons. Clifford said, «Why don’t you come to the African drumming class this weekend too?» I had absolutely no experience or familiarity with African drumming, but I was curious. I’m so glad I went to that first class, I am hooked for life! Playing the djembe is a fun and healing experience, and just simply makes you happy. Clifford is an awesome teacher: he is very patient and encouraging, and challenges you to do things you never thought you could — but can. The group classes are very supportive and all levels of playing are welcomed and accepted, allowing you to develop at your own pace. I took the Performance Class only having completed one 6 week Beginners Class, and it was such an awesome and productive experience. I learned so much and have a lot more confidence. The final performance(my first!) was amazing; I had so much fun! I’m definitely a returning student, and can’t wait to learn more rhythms and how to play the dununs. Come check it out; you’ll be glad you did!

I started taking djembe lessons and group classes from Clifford a year ago. I’d never done any drumming before. In that relatively short time he’s introduced me to traditional African rhythms, djembe and dunun drumming, and I just participated in my first performance which was a blast. He is deeply rooted in African traditions, is very knoweldgeable, and effectively teaches. I highly recommend the experience.
