Sloan Boutique

I just wanted to give a shoutout to the store and the girls that work there. I was shopping to find a dress to wear in my engagement photos. They were attentive and helpful without being annoying or overbearing. They were very sweet and brought me tons of stuff to try and I was able to walk out with a really nice outfit that wasn’t outrageously priced. It’s a nice, pretty, clean place to find cute clothes if you’re around the area.

Love this boutique and the Hawthorne store is my favorite location. I like the layout and selection here best. Extremely friendly staff and great brands. I also think there’s a good mix of styles for women of various ages. My only two suggestions for improvement: 1. The mirrors in the dressing rooms are a bit low for us women over 5’8. 2. I’ve also noticed some of the brands are getting a little spendier. Hopefully you’ll still continue to keep blouses in the $ 30 to $ 40 as well as in the $ 60 to $ 80. But overall this boutique still deserves 5 stars as they are the best place to shop in Portland.

Lovely clothing and I’m happy to see that more and more of their selection is made in the USA. It can be difficult to find cute, stylish clothes that aren’t made in sweatshops, so I’m happy to see a nice boutique that’s buying some of their stock domestically. I hope they continue to do this as I’ve found some really cute things that I absolutely would have bought had they not been made in China. The prices aren’t bad, they tend to be a mix of prices, sometimes a certain item will seem really highly priced to me, while another one seems like a steal. Sales girls are very attentive.

I generally like their clothes and the price point. Sometimes it’s a little pricey, but the service is so so good. I love walking into Sloan, talking to a salesperson about what I’m looking for and having them set me up in a dressing room with a ton of options. Completely painless shopping. Downside is they don’t do returns — you have 10 days to return an item and you’ll receive store credit. Not a great policy…

This is my second visit to this location and I’m good not ever returning. From the moment I walked in I was followed by 2 store employees who kept asking if I need help. I’m all for friendliness but this got borderline ridiculous. I actually laughed at one point and said no. When ringing out the lady asked if I was a local, which isn’t offensive but the tone she said it was. I happily said yes, seeing as most stores aren’t as rude as this and I’m new to the area. Then I decided on some shoes and asked for just the shoes because I had a bag already and didn’t need extra cardboard. The blond lady snippily said fine then they’re final sale. I said cool because I planned to keep them anyways. Just a really unfriendly lame staff, not trying to steal your stuff you snobs.

Wandered over to Sloan, a while back, to see what gems I could find. I was greeted at the door with a smile and a 20% off coupon (oh HELLOO!!!) and some space to peruse the racks.
I love this store. I love the service. And I have never NOT found something wonderful.
Shawna was so wonderful helping me play dress up. I left with a few things I might not have even considered had I not had someone picking things out for me. I love that! So fun!

Stopped in here while visiting the area. My 22 year-​old fashion-​minded daughter LOVED this boutique. They have a wide variety of quality clothing in this small little store. Everything from jeans to sweaters, to hats, to shirts to shoes. The prices are reasonable for a boutique. I would compare it to the Brass Plum at Nordstrom.
The employees were all friendly, but bordered on the line of being nicely pushy. My one gripe was when a customer brought her dog into the store. The employees gathered around the dog (I LOVE dogs) and promptly forgot AND neglected the customers for about 10 minutes. It was almost comical.
My daughter bought a beautiful sweater (that we later found for MORE money at 4 other stores in Oregon and California), a top, a belt, a hat and a pair of earrings. She was very happy with her purchases.
We will be back the next time we’re in Portland.

Sloan has a great combination of fun day to day items, and a few more upscale items like Kensie.
I don’t think i’m entirely their demographic, as I typically look for more original items. I did however find an absolutely perfect sweater for my sister for Christmas. I can’t wait to give it to her. She’s going to LOVE it.
The sales gals were friendly, the store is well lit, and clean.
There were a few too many items on the racks, making it more difficult for someone like myself who has a short attention span.
Overall very nice little shop.

Absolutely amazing! Everyone was so beyond friendly and so helpful! Came in with the mindset of a window-​shopper because of the appearance of the store (classy boutique vibe for sure), and ended up leaving with the cutest hat and boots for unreal prices! Great first shopping experience on Hawthorne (I’m a newbie to Portland)! I highly recommend this cute little shop for all of your clothing needs!

i can’t say enough about my experience with kelsey at sloan. i had been having a hard time finding something to wear at wedding. i was panicked since i was getting on a plane to cross the country in a day and my boyfriend’s ex was going to be at the wedding — i needed to feel foxy.
kelsey was the first person i saw and she was so sweet and friendly. normally i wouldn’t ask for help finding clothes but since she was kind i told her my predicament. her eyes let up and she said ‘let me dress you!’. what a relief. literally within 10 minutes she had like 20 dresses/​shoes/​cover ups in the dressing room. i was saved. you know the situation — someone picks out things you wouldn’t have thought to try but then you love them!
sloan has a lot of really quality items that i dig. quality fabric, weight, colors, etc. love. the other ladies i met at sloan were wonderful. again, i had been to many stores in the pearl district and around town and was super discouraged. i had been really worried i’d be a stress case on my trip/​feeling out of place. but i got a great outfit at sloan and felt fantastic at the wedding — got along great with my boyfriend’s ex :).

Love this store so much, beautiful clothing! However I don’t go in here often just because I feel so overwhelmed by the employees from the moment I walk in the door. They are helpful and friendly, but to an almost aggressive degree. I feel almost ambushed sometimes, when every single worker approaches me multiple times asking if I need help when I am simply trying to relax and look around. Assuring them I was just looking and would ask as soon as I needed anything, did not do anything to deter them. As I peruse through items at the store, I am constantly feeling followed and it made me uncomfortable to the point that I left quickly without purchasing anything. Again, love this store and am very sad to say that the employees have ruined my experience shopping there.

Sloan carries tons of cute and on trend pieces — a lot of which are super affordable.
The problem I have encountered is with the staff. The gals seem to get blinders on where they start helping someone and fail to notice whats happening around them…
I was in last night and wasn’t greeted or spoken to for the entire half hour I was browsing. I witnessed a couple young gals stand at the checkout waiting to buy jewelry for ten minutes as the sales-​gals just walked past them over and over. As I was shopping a rack a sales-​gal walked up and shoved all the items over so she could get at an item for someone else — but in the process totally slammed my hand between hangers while I was looking for a size. I looked over at her to see if shed noticed me standing just two feet away… didn’t appear so.
The above experience is a typical one for me, which is sad because I live so close and their clothes are super cute.

For someone as indecisive as me to walk out of a store with four pieces of clothing in less than an hour says quite something about the store. What a fabulous selection, and what great sales staff.
I bought some spring staples I had been searching for a while — a flowy Breton stripes tunic, a polka dot skirt for swing dance, a pair of floral printed flowy shorts and bright red sandals. The items are all pretty reasonably priced, very well-​fitting, and look great even on petites like me (I am 5’3″).
Finally, the staff is really great. Page helped me out, and she just nailed it, picking out clothes that looked perfect on me. She wasn’t pushy at all, and let me take all the time in the world trying on different items.
I’m going to keep coming back. Highly recommended.

Love shopping here, the clothes are modern and stylish! The sales staff are friendly and helpful, actually make it fun to shop there and they make great recommendations for the specific style you’re looking for. I always leave with clothes and awesome excessories that I wear a lot and the clothes are for the most part great quality!

Cute store with a great selection of gorgeous clothing which is pretty well priced and seems well made. Super inexpensive jewelry! They also host wine and sales events all the time — I have friends who have attended and swear by them though I think most of those are at the NW location.

Sloan is literally the only place I shop for clothes in Portland.
It has a good selection — a lot of good brands, good quality for the price — but only carries a few of each item, so you don’t look like everyone else.
Good prices, plus good deals if you’re a regular shopper or on their email list (hello champagne sale nights!)
The staff is awesome — good style (they’ll pull pieces for you to help make outfits or find something for a specific event), super friendly and they’re honest about what looks good on you and what they actually like.

I was on a goddamn mission to find a new pair of jeans. Not only that, I was determined to find a different brand that would rip at the thigh like my Gap jeans always do (ones that never fit me well anyway). Despite the knowledge that clothes are supposed to fit /​your/​body and not the other way around, I was starting to feel despondent and mutant-​like about my inability to find pants that just… fit correctly.
Allie (sp) was the person who helped me while I shopped. I’m usually pretty hesitant of walking into a place where the women follow you around and recommend things for you to try on, but I decided to take a chance here as she seemed friendly and easygoing. She made the whole experience super personal without being too invasive, and was incredibly knowledgeable about all of the merchandise they had. She also picked out a ton of options for me, including some cute shirts and sweaters (which I didn’t end up buying, but might in the future). I also noticed that they actually had pants within my price range, which is pretty uncommon in boutique-​like stores.
I walked out spending slightly more on jeans than I have before, but with more confidence and a more positive body image that before I walked into the store. Looking forward to doing much more shopping here once I’m a local. Thanks Allie for the awesome experience!

Life, is dragging me kicking and screaming out of Forever 21. Be it my expanding waistline or the shame that settles over me like a thick fog while I shop amongst high schoolers, it has become abundantly clear it’s time for me to move on. Sloan, bless them, has made this process easier on me.
Sloan is fastly becoming my first stop when I’m looking for new clothes. I’ve said before that «boutique» is a word I generally consider short hand for «out of my price range». Sloan however is a boutique that does not break the bank. While I’m not buying $ 20 dresses like at Forever 21, I’m not spending that much more and I’m getting a much better quality product. Also hopefully I won’t bump into a handful of teenagers wearing the same thing as me on a regular basis. You can find a lot of fashionable, interesting clothes for every type of ocsassion at very reasonable prices. I personally love their shoe section. I got a pair of awesome summer flats for under $ 40.
I’m really on the fence about giving Sloan 4 or 5 stars. Ultimately, I landed on 4 because I can’t always find a lot of things I like. In Sloans defense I am kind of boring dresser (See my wardrobe of solid earth colors and a few stripped items). I feel like they have a lot of trendy stuff which isn’t really my cup of tea but I understand I’m the minority in that. I fancy myself a classic dresser. On the other side of the coin I love that this is an afforadable local store that sells great clothes with a lot of variety. So, you decide!
A tip for the wise — Sign up for the newsletter. They won’t spam you with junk mail and they’ll let you know about awesome sales. They have sales with some regularity and you can get some great deals.
If you’re on the market for new clothes and you’re not backstroking in benjamins, Sloan will see to it you leave lookin’ fly without an overdraft fee.

The day I visited Sloan, I was on a weekend trip to Portland and I had a massive hangover that deprived me of much interest in shopping. But Sloan looked enticing enough to lure me in, even though I had to keep an eye on the exit just in case my stomach followed through on its threats.
I tried on a bunch of cute stuff and finally settled on two basic, incredibly soft and flattering shirts, both made in the USA. They were pricey, but when I don’t have to worry about sales tax, I tend to go a little overboard. (The shirts were worth it; I’ve worn both several times in the past couple of weeks.) I also snagged two very pretty and reasonably priced necklaces. The girls working there were super friendly and helpful.
