I don’t know if the people who read my reviews can tell, but I’m a food critic. Seriously, I can always find something that should have been done better, but in the case with My Thai Bistro the only problem was there wasn’t enough food ha ha! All jokes aside every bite you take is delicious enough to trigger your taste buds and give you that YUM feel. Things you MUST try: –Pork potstickers –Chicken pad thai(spice :5/10) –Tom Kha with Chicken –Coconut shrimp The setting is casual, but you’re treated like you are in a 5 star expensive restaurant. They even bring you hot towels to wipe your hands and make you feel pampered. If you like Thai food this place is a MUST try. :)

Absolutely great lunch prices! The curry potion may be a teensy bit smaller but it comes with rice and all for $ 8. I got he panang curry with tofu and vegetables and they added eggplant at my request too. Perfect flavor and just the right amount of spice for me(I asked for 5 out of 10). My sister had the pad Thai with shrimp and she enjoyed it too, and again, portion was just right. They also have some drink specials that sounded good! I definitely recommend stopping here for lunch if you’re strolling on Hawthorne.

Unfortunately this was my first and last visit to this restaurant. We were seated right away but waited 30 minutes to order. Then another 40 minutes before we were served. Food was okay. One of us ordered brown rice. When the food came the waiter announced that they were out of brown rice so they gave us white. No forewarning or offer of options. Definitely would not recommend.

My favorite Thai spot in Portland :) –Their lunch menu is great and they have, in my humble opinion, some of the tastiest curries and certainly the best pad kee mao in SE. Not to be confused for the horrendous but similarly named, Mai Thai, which is the worst thai food on the planet. That said, MY Thai doesn’t just stop at delicious and well prepared food, they also put a lot of effort into presentation and service,(soup samples and hot towels can be expected!) which earns the 5th star.

This place is amazing! Super cheap for the size of the dishes! The food is so good, the pad thai is amazing, and the service is great!

I agree with many of the other Unilocalers previous reviews. The owner is nice, but a bit pushy. She was okay with me, but I sat at the bar where there is about 3 – 4 seats available but it gave me an up close and personal of what is going on and unfortunately the constant stress the owner places on the waiters was constant and unavoidable. Food: I had pad thai and it was good. They give you the option 1 – 10 for spiciness, which is nice. There were knat flies at the bar so it was really hard to enjoy my meal and drinks. Service: The waiter was nice. I felt really bad for him as I can tell he was rehearsing the specials like a script as if he were a robot coming from the pressure of the owner. I can tell he was trying so hard not to mess up as I could even feel the owner pressure just staring at him. Before I even sat down I was getting a hearse of menu information coming fast and without a breathe. I feel really bad for those poor waiters. Ambiance: It’s a nice setting with clothed tables and wine glasses on tables. Maybe a little out of place for Hawthorne, but I don’t think it was so much the actual setting as when I’m in the southeast I want a laid back neighborhood joint and this just didn’t feel like that. Review: I will probably not be back. Food was okay, but I did not feel relaxed as I could feel the pressure the 2 other waiters were on and the knat flies didn’t help. I wouldn’t reccommend the restaurant but to each their own and one may go in and have a fine experience. :)

We got the Pad Thai and yellow curry with chicken. Both dishes were good but the we got a spice level of 8 which was a bit too much, even though I love spice. The servers were nice, but a little robotic when talking about the menu and the specials. We also tried the soup sampler and they were not good, too sour and fish-tasting. I will definitely come here again, prices were decent for great food.

Delicious! The poktak soup was so light and ethereal in consistency I could have it multiple times per day even when mine appetite is low. The waitress did a Thai Iced Coffee with Bailey’s for my husband’s b-day that was divine – she got the balance of flavours better than most of the Western-born waiter/esses I’ve had serve me coffee with Bailey’s in other restaurantses and bars. Very good, My Thai Bistro! Hugs, LilyKat

Like a few of the other reviews my friend & I were just checking out the menu outside when one of the waiters came out & recited the specials & a few drink specials. We saw it was a safe choice & went with it. The ambiance of the restaurant is on the fancy side(which I found it to be awkward & not go very well.) The waiter was attentive, brought a us samples of soup & hot towels. We shared the Pad Kee Mao & the fresh rolls. The fresh rolls were pretty good but I’ve had better. The food came out pretty quick. Biggest complaint was the owner was really pushy with trying to get us to purchase a drink. Even at the end she told us that next time we should order a drink. Shut up & let people eat. Honestly. Don’t drive people away with that car sales man attitude. Overall, the food was ok. I’d come back & get take out if I’m desperate for Thai on Hawthorne. It’s worth a try though!

My Thai bistro gives you a fancy feel without being too expensive or uncomfortable. They have beautiful presentation and excellent service. Started off with a fresh mango mojito, crab puffs, and coconut shrimp. Finished with their lovely chicken pad Thai. Also tried bites of the special, a mango red curry which was spectacular.

This WAS my first choice for Thai! On Hawthorne. SEEUPDATEBELOW — Nice ambiance — very relaxing atmosphere. UPDATE: 5÷29÷15 went Memorial Day weekend. My water glass had hard sticky rice on it. Had to get a new glass, waiter said to other waiter as he walked by «that’s dirty too!».,.gets better –regular waiters weren’t there but the owner was — coming by every 10 min asked for Thai ice coffee she kept wanting to up grade my drinks with liquor, I said just coffee and the coffee was all cream hardly any coffee! Then they wanted us to order from dinner menu when it was lunch. I said sternly I want lunch size. Then as we are leaving some Asian lady can be heard in the kitchen yelling«asshole» about 25 times. You can’t make this stuff up! Downgraded from 5 to 2 stars would of got one star but got two because food was still great. Get your act together or I will be going to another Thai restaurant.

One of my favorite low-key Thai restaurants in Portland. The food is great, and the kitchen is very vegetarian friendly. But beware, the owner is a natural saleswoman, and it shows. At times the staff seems to be operating on commission; it can easily become a bit overwhelming and distracting from the meal. But if you can ignore a parade of, «Are you sure you don’t want fresh salad rolls?», «Did you take a look at our wine list? Great selection!», «Are you REALLY sure you don’t want fresh salad rolls?», and«Why don’t you just taste a sample of the wine, to see what you are missing.», then this restaurant is a great choice! Also, if getting take-out, be careful that they don’t put liquid-y foods in a paper container. This has happened more than once to me and ends up quite messy.

Let me first say that I’ve been to this restaurant three times in the last week because I love their food. Staff was excellent but my experience today unfortunately will probably keep me from returning. The lady who owns this restaurant doesn’t understand that to nickel and dime a customer for a tiny side of sauce is not a smart business move. In charging me an extra two dollars for a side of sauce, they’ve lost a future, returning customer that would have spent a lot more money in their restaurant than two dollars… WAKEUP!!!

Excellwnt food quality, everything was very freah and not overcooked the green curry was particularly fresh tasting Liked the tom yum and the massaman The vegetarian pot stickers were good but there were only four If you have leftovers, be sure to ask to have the rice packed separately. In all of our dishes they packed rice with the food and put it on the bottom so that all the sauce was gone.

I found this place after walking out of Samui Thai after not getting food after 35 minutes. Being cranky now and thinking of where to go next, I remembered driving by and seeing this place a couple of blocks down, so off I went. I remember that the outside was nothing to shout about, but the moment I walked in and thought OMG.(Check out the pictures). It is probably the best décor of any Thai restaurant I have visited in Portland. I sat down and explained what happened up the street and from there my experience was spot on. They told me the specials and did a great job of trying to up sell. I choose the Tom Kha soup which comes with the main dish. It was served in a bigger bowl than you would think of for a free starter. I had Pad Kee Mao and it was one of the best I have had. Of all the Thai places I have tried in Portland this is in the top 5. If you are a Thai freak like me this is a must try restaurant.
