I love the homemade ice cream. The actual food is a little on the nasty side. Love the location. The workers are very nice. The price is ok

OK ya’ll… here’s the dillio!!! THIS place?, amazing. Here’s what happened: Gina, this amazingly nice lady has purchased the old Rose’s Ice Cream shop. It will soon be re branded to Gina’s Ice Cream. She’s still serving the same solid assortment of handmade ice creams but is also starting to experiment with things. She had us taste a new vegan cocoa option that may come out soon. OMG, don’t breeze over the«vegan» choices. They are phenomenal. Her cocoa version is like my favorite homemade hot cocoa with very little sweetener added. It’s dirty and raw cocoa flavoring yummmm!!! She’s already starting to remodel and plans on classic 50’s diner and much nicer than the state of the old Rose’s plus oldies blasting all the time… SO excited! She has started a 6 $ breakfast menu on Sat/Sundays. They even have chicken and waffles! The standard food fair won’t change a ton but it’s classic dinner type food and all well done. The tots are the right crispiness, the grilled cheese classic chemical goodness. This is NOT your health food store in any way. But it is a nice treat once in a while. I stand behind their malts as well as the«extra rich» omg heart attack goodness shakes. This is a gem of the Cully/Concordia neighborhood and I’m so excited that someone is investing in it heavily now for it and our neighborhood’s future! GO Gina!

OK, be warned! This place can become habit forming! There are soooo many flavors of ice cream to try. We like the Chocolate varieties, Cookie Dough and the NEW Pecan flavor. But a great hot dog, or chili dog and hamburger add up to a very nice supper time. The new owner, Gina, is willing to listen to what you would like to eat, so who knows what she will have on the new menu. If she does add a breakfast menu, we might be having ice cream for breakfast too. Great for families. Can’t figure out what it is though, many, many of the kids walk out with a multi-colored sherbet cone.

I will miss Rose’s ice cream! I live 400 miles away and it is just a tad far to go. But I will be sure to stop in anytime I’m in Portland! The peppermint ice cream was perfection! The coffee ice cream was the ideal combo of coffee and cream.

Great old school diner feel. Friendly girl at the counter. Tasty scoop of licorice ice cream. They had other flavors I wanted to try, but today’s mission called for a licorice ice cream. Reminds me of the type a place you go in as a kid with your allowance to get ice cream. Great feels all around. I will return!

I ordered a blackberry milkshake and overheard the waitress ask her manager if they could make blackberry milkshakes that weren’t «extra creamy»(a new feature on their menu) she told her to just add some vanilla syrup. I didn’t think much of their conversation until we had left the shop. After only a few sips of my milkshake i took off the lid to check… the ice cream was purple, as blackberry should be. I was concerned they had given me the wrong the ice cream because the only flavor i could taste was VANILLA. Very disappointed. Very sad. Cute retro shop. Too bad they ruin good seasonal flavors with syrup without asking customers first. My boyfriend ordered a chocolate peanut butter milkshake and was very pleased. Nice flavor.

I came with my son, a second grader with food allergies. We had a very nice time. They made his cheeseburger as a lettuce wrap since he is allergic to gluten. He said it was just like an In-&-Out burger. Previously, he’s said that I&O are the best burgers in the world, so this is high, high praise. In his words, «That’s the best burger in town!» He followed the burger, fries, and apple sauce with a small Sunday. Sorry Salt & Straw, but my kiddo thinks these flavors are better and that there are more choices to choose from. «That was the best ice cream I have ever had!» The girls working the counter were attentive and polite. Overall, we were very pleased with our first visit to Rose’s. We’ll be back!

The person working the counter was extremely rude. Made me feel like we were bothering them while trying to decide which ice cream and the amount to get. Defiantly not worth it for mediocre ice cream, especially when there are so many amazing little ice cream shops in Portland with super friendly staff. Learn to treat people with some respect, especially when they are giving you their money.

This place deserves more business. It has a wide variety of homemade ice creams, including licorice, a favorite of the grandkids. The fresh fruit summer shakes are a special treat. The food is 1950s-1960s pre-fast food. And the setting seems like from the same era. Many new ice cream places have arrived in Portland, but Rose’s is a price bargain.

We just came in for ice cream and were surprised to see how many menu choices there were. It’s a little gritty, but the staff was super friendly. I got a double scoop of ice cream and one was black licorice(my absolute favorite). This brand had a really good flavor(last one I had elsewhere was not this good). My friend got a blackberry shake and he really liked it. It was good and thick. On a side note, we were surprised to see that they even have video lottery machines here. Thought that was pretty cool and my friend even won $ 20 while I ate my cone.

Stopped in here after dinner. I ordered the snicker doodle ice cream sandwich. It was the best ice cream I have ever had! I will be coming back to try their food for sure! I love the diner vibe. A nice get away from those overpriced, overpacked ice cream spots in SE.

A nice place for a veggie burger, fries, and milkshake. They’ll do the shake«extra rich» which means a higher butter fat content. Go for it, big guy! Only one size for the shake: 16 ounces. Good prices, friendly northwest-style service, and yummy food & ice cream. Enjoy in moderation or excess… your choice.

Perfect. I’m not sure how long it’s been there but it has an old-fashioned(not in a cutesy way) feel that makes one suppose that they’ve been around a long time. I had a mint chocolate chip cone and it was fine, just fine. I have only been there once, but I now trust that when I go back I can count on good ice cream selection, good service, and good prices. This place makes me smile.

Just what we were looking for on a 95 degree day in Portland — a cute neighborhood ice cream parlor with big booth seating inside.(We’d been previously underwhelmed by a couple of pharmacy soda fountains along Sandy.) Had bubblegum ice cream that was great — I actually appreciate that it didn’t have chunks of bubblegum in it, brought out the sweetness subtly. This place is great for kids — roomy, comfy, no frills. Reminds me of an old school bowling alley coffee shop(high praise in my book).

My milkshake was more like a glass of milk with ice cream chunks. I sent it back twice and then finally just asked for my money back. Disappointing.

Some of the ice cream flavors were gritty, some quite good, we thought the cinnamon was the best. Will come back to test their corn dogs and burgers.

Overall I really liked this little ice-cream/burger joint. I ordered a mint chocolate chip ice cream(and you can’t really go too wrong with ice cream) and a deluxe burger. It all tasted good but my one compliant is that there needs to be more available on the burger I ordered. It just came with lettuce tomato and sauce. The fries were the best I’ve tasted! They were crispy with just enough salt. I’d go back for the fries anyway.

My teenagers and I love Rose’s. We think their burgers and ice cream are the best in the city. We now been there about a dozen times. Every time we get great service and tasty food.

Took a field trip to Rose’s for a chocolate shake after dinner one night. The place gives more of a Jersey Shore vibe than NE Portland, but that was part of the fun. Chocolate milkshakes are my favorite food, and I’ve had more than a few in my day. This was certainly not in the top top. It was hand dipped but came very thin. If I can have the first sip from a straw, it is more like a McDonald’s shake than a traditional, thick, eat it with a spoon style shake I love. I would go back if I’m in the hood, but wouldn’t make another trip just for a stop in at Rose’s.

classic homemade ice-cream. my fav malts and perfect neighborhood feel. the food looks pretty classic greaseball but stick to the dairy and you’ll have something to smile about. they also have 1 or 2 dairy free options typically.

I had the veggie burger with mushrooms and Swiss. The burger was just a Gardenburger brand burger. The mushrooms were good. The lettuce was fresh. I had some fries with it. They were very crispy and nice. My boyfriend has the fish sandwich with tater tots. He said it was alright and the tater tots were good. We both had a scoop of ice cream. It was okay ice cream. There were some house and fruit flies which was gross.

A day of painting, rearranging furniture and a trip to the Adidas store led me to want ice cream. Thankfully Roses is less than half a mile from my place. I’ve never been, but from the reviews, and my brother’s one included, I wanted a shake. Quick tip, if they have local, fresh berries… GETEM! Blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, marionberries. I went with blueberries and marionberries in a chocolate shake. Soooooo good, soooo good. They have two options, regular shakes and thick shakes. It’s a buck difference, but I’m sure you notice the difference. For my first time, I just went with the regular, but being so close, I’ll will be back for more, and I’ll probably try a burger as well. Get there.

I hate giving a negative review to a small, local business, but Rose’s is off our list of ice cream spots. My wife and I both got different flavors, but the results were similar. No taste, ice crystals, and some freezer burn. We both actually ended up throwing out the last of our cones. I’m an ice cream maniac; that’s blasphemy. Other ice cream joints are worth the wait as opposed to going here. Earned an extra star based on very friendly service.

I love all ice cream, from Dairy Queen to Salt and Straw — as long as it has flavor. The cookie dough ice cream here has no flavor. It is a peculiar thing: it tastes like a blank slate of frozen cream. There are perhaps 2 slivers of cookie dough within a scoop. The mocha ice cream fares slightly better, seeing as coffee is a hard flavor to mute, but it was still pretty weak. Your regular scoop here runs less than other places around town — $ 2.75 — but it is not a large portion. I think the main attraction here is the comfy booths. The place was almost empty, and we had our selection of any comfy booth we wanted. Yes there’s no wait, but then, what is there to wait for?
