Just okay on all accounts. The service leaves much to be desired, but so does everything else about this place.

Cool smaller bar. Chill vibe. Had a good beer selection. The mussels and fries combo was so good! All the beers on tap were 5 $ so it was pretty average price. I would definitely come back.

Looking for a spot in the area I had yet to try. This place fit the bill. A nice feel, Small 2 and 4-tops throughout. A super great location and parking 5pm Friday was not a problem. The booth seats(banquet?) looked comfy — my date sat there. But my chair was a bit taller than his and didn’t have much to it. Barely a back to hang my purse off. I think you can also sit up at the bar and wathc them make stuff. I love that! The Irish(i think) bartender charmed the pants off of me with his brogue and demeaner. Once agai I didnt see anything on the drink menu that piqued my interest so I asked him to make me something and it was delish! Cocktails are typically $ 9 and $ 1 off during happy hour. A smallish but lovely menu. I ordered the mussels as everyone suggested and my date the burger. He gave his a 4 out of 5. The mussels were delish. Very big! The sauce great too. The fries were served on top — which I would prefer not since I always like my fries crispy. I got a side of ketchup — no one seemed too upset by it. All in all — thus place is really cool with amazing potential. A few small things keep it from being a 5 in my book — soggy fries, icky chair and no real happy hour savings. But I wholeheartedly reccomend a try!

The first time I visited Wilder was a surprise date night – the kind where your kid’s friend’s parents say, hey, we’ll hang on to your kid, go have fun! And then you run away as fast as you can to a place near you where you can have a drink and some food and not have a six year-old break up your conversation every five seconds. And it was wonderful – great beer list, great service, and some mussels that at first were good, and after repeated bites were AMAZING. Seriously, is there magic pixie dust in there? The second time we were in a bind – had to take the in-laws somewhere good, tasty, but close. We know they like mussels, let’s try Wilder. In brief, while it’s not the most ideal place we could have chosen for older folks, the service and food were ONPOINT. I don’t know what my FIL tipped our server, but I’m sure it wasn’t enough because she was AMAZING.(I hope we get to go back soon to rectify this.) She predicted our every need, was gracious to the batty MIL, and was just wonderful. And the food is great.(This is not an afterthought, but not the main reason I’m writing this review.) I am not going to break down the menu or atmosphere, but suffice to say both are lovely. And it pains me to say it, but this place should be way more crowded than it was. Please don’t tell everyone – just those who appreciate a friendly joint with a menu that focuses on solid dishes and has superlative service. You know, that’s all.

Dark, small, and bustling, with lots of brick. I’m digging the vibe. The service is good too, and the drinks are strong. The food’s not the greatest, but it’s tasty enough and not too expensive(which is rare for the area – you’ve got Yakuza, Expatriate, and Autentica, which is all kind of pricey). I had a Caesar salad, and added some cajun chicken to it. The chicken was really heavily seasoned(so I wouldn’t order it again), but I’d still come back to try something else.

Such a great addition to this corner. Food is great and the beer selection is always solid. Probably one of the best veggie burgers in the city. Love this spot. Wish they stayed open even later!

The Wilder Old-Fashioned is not to be missed! Perfectly balanced. The fries are a cut above! Try the fried chicken!

Really? I haven’t written a review? This is my FAVORITE bar for a chill cocktail and their amazing mussels and frites OR excellent sandwich. They have delightful craft cocktails, small but excellent beer selection and ALWAYS friendly service. It’s not always fast, but that’s just fine… This place feels like home. and I’m always looking forward to coming back. Thanks for being so great so often!

I like this place a lot! My husband and I stopped in for a cocktail and snack before our reservations at DOC. The cocktails were very well made.

This summer I traveled for 5 weeks and ate at countless places and this was one of the most memorable. We stopped in for dinner because it was right near where we were staying in Portland. I had the burger and it was phenomenal. It was so good that when I went across the street a couple of days later to eat at Cocotte I wished I was back at Wilder having the burger again. This is high praise from me as I will shamefully admit I sometimes eat five burgers a week. This was the best burger I’ve had in recent memory. My girlfriend had the mussels and frites and enjoyed them as well. After Cocotte we came back for drinks and the staff was very friendly. They have a great selection of beer on tap(even though small) and all of the cocktails I tried over the two trips I enjoyed. I’m a Thrillist/best of list idiot and was surprised to not see this burger on any Portland lists.

A friendly neighborhood gem in North Portland. One of the best Manhattans I’ve ever had in. The bartenders really know what they’re doing and are very friendly and customer service focused. also make sure to get one of their burgers. you won’t regret it!

The menu and cocktails looked great. The Wilder Plate which was a triple cream sheep’s cheese, Meyer Lemon marmalade, dried apricots, and hazelnuts WAS great. I had the mussels and fries. The sauce the mussels came in was delicious however our food sat directly in front of us waiting to be served for over 10 minutes allowing it to cool substantially. They served the fries on top of the mussels which means they fell into the sauce and got soggy. My wife got the fried chicken which she said was flavored well but was overly greasy. Probably won’t be back. The manager’s attitude toward his employees was also a bit rude.

Had I of not been going next door for dinner, I would have totally had dinner here. As we were waiting for friends for dinner, we stopped into Wilder and grabbed a beer. Total chill spot for this neighborhood. By chill, I dont mean divey, but just laid back with a «no rush» kind of atmosphere. You could easily come here for a late night experience with that special someone you are trying to get to know better to grab a bite and a drink or just to come here with a friend for drinks and a visit. Though the drink/food menu may be simple, it seems inventful and worth trying out. Yes, its small inside and yes, you order at the bar, however this place is worth supporting a local business and trying out a new spot.

Awesome! Pretty tiny space, so probably wouldn’t want to bring more than 4 in a group. Order at the bar, and get the mussels! Tasty, lovely mussels with fries. Perfect for sharing or as a main entrée. We split it and shared the fried cauliflower and cup of ginger carrot soup. Everything was amazing. The portions were fair sized, and prices not to bad, though we did just miss the happy hour prices. Boo.

So this is on an… exceptional corner. I wandered around for about five or ten minutes looking at menus of very high-end cuisine. Sushi, upscale Mexican, upscale Italian, Upscale Pacific Northwestern(?), and nothing was really what I was looking for, but an interestingly named«Royale with Cheese» was listed on the bulletin board at Wilder, so I went in. The ambiance is good(excepting the booth seat that was repaired with duct tape and a prayer) and you order at the bar. I honestly didn’t even know they had a menu when I ordered, because I thought it was all night-by-night fare off of the board. I ordered said Royale with Cheese and a pilsner. I then took a seat and was offered some water, which I took. The chef is right on hand and on my night, she was very personable, talking to me about what I did and did not want about my burger. What I got was a beef patty on a brioche bun, with aged Irish cheddar, caramelized onions and bacon. I ordered it medium-well. Well…I got the burger without onions. Before I even took a bite, the chef was up with a small bowl of onions and apologized, saying she just came back from vacation and forgot the onions. Okay, forgivable, and at least she caught it before I did. So that’s a pass. Except the onions just… weren’t that good. It was like the caramelization removed any and all flavour from them. They were just… wet strips of slight crunch. Okay. The cheese was good on the burger, the bacon was good, and the bread was good. But the burger was very well done. Like… charred…well done. I was tasting burnt through the whole thing. At first I just went with it, because I wasn’t really thinking about it, and, dammit, I really really wanted to love the burger. I mean… it looked great, cut in half. The fries looked fresh cut and were nicely seasoned, if a little limp. But the more I thought about it, the more I thought about the fact that in this neighborhood, in this environment, it really isn’t acceptable to turn a medium-well burger into charcoal. I literally tasted«burnt» for the rest of the night. That was disappointment, and with so many other options, and not being local to the neighborhood, I just can’t consider going back again.

Generally when a drinking/dining establishment is out of the first two things that you ask for that are on the menu it would be cause for subtracting a star or two. Not tonight for Wilder. The Big Donald Burger, fried cauliflower and Classic Manhattan cocktail more than made up for a couple of stars. Combine the outstanding food with excellent service and a three man band playing great cover songs on the corner on a 75 degree October evening and you get one amazing Portland experience! Kicks Ass and Balls!
