The best Indian food cart in Portland. Amazing price. Kind people. Great naan and rice. Sometimes they’ll let you make substitutions on their lunch deals. Really amazing overall.

Amazing food. Great, friendly service. Coming from the Bay Area, surprised and saddened at the fact that the innumerable chaat places here, have so far, not come even close to the samosas and the papdi chaat I had at this food truck. We went at closing time, on Saturday, and were warmly and cheerfully received, and served GREAT food, that completely blew my mind.

Horrible quality and even worse tasting food. We ordered the pani puri and he samosa chaat, the pani puris were so stale that we threw it all away and the samosa chaat curd had gone bad, and they didn’t even know about it. When I told the owner lady about it, she denied and said that so many people had it before us and they didn’t complain. Bad attitude, bad food and a disgusting and dirty place.

Delicious muttar paneer. Creamy and flavorful and filling. The only complaint is I asked for medium spicy and it came out extremely mild. Great place to grab lunch.

A friend whose mother-in-law wrote a South Asian cookbook told me this was a must-visit place for lunch in PDX. I am glad I went. The $ 6 lunch special is one of the best deals I have had in Portland — changing all the time, but constantly good, the special is the way to go. I was really impressed by the regulars waiting for the cook to prepare 5 – 10 lunches to go for fans who seem to come here every day. The owner knew people by name, and wished them well as they walked off with a pile of to-go orders. I ate my lunch special as I stood at the bar and was very satisfied — reminded me of the sort of mom and pop places I remember in «Little India» along Devon Avenue in Chicago with the added touch of pride of ownership on the part of the cook. This is not a very busy foodcart center in downtown PDX, but it is worth the extra walk out for some amazing Indian food. Strongly suggest you go here — now.

I love love love this place. The food is amazing and super affordable. I had them make a couple dishes for a party and everyone loved the food. It can usually be made vegan if you ask.

Please see the attached photo. I work on the corner near this place, and occasionally stop by for food. I don’t have much else to say, other than there were maggots in my food this round. I won’t be returning.

I CRAVE the Muter Paneer from the Bombay Chaat House Food Truck all the time! It is just the right combination of curry, spice, tomato, paneer, peas, and cream. I don’t really do leftovers as I don’t like to eat the same thing 2 days/meals in a row, but I will get 2 or 3 orders of the Mutter Paneer and put them in the fridge to eat all week! I like to try something new along with my «usual» every chance I get. My other recommendations are the Naan(ALL of them!), Samosa and Pakora, Aloo Gobi, Dal Tarka, and Vegetable Biryani. Don’t forget to try a Mango Lassi and/or the Chai!!! You get so much food for a few bucks and the people that run this food truck are amazingly sweet!

Ask for the 6 course Vegan special! I’ve been coming here for 3 months now ever since I discovered this place. Never disappoints!

Came here to grab some curry after a less than stellar experience at Taste of India, and was pretty impressed. Some solid indian food at a honestly very cheap price, if you don’t mind eating from a food cart, and let’s be honest, this is Portland. You don’t mind. :D

The food here is unbelievably on point! My husband and I both loved it. The $ 6 meal is such a great value. Everything was made to order and the Na’an was ginormous. Definitely would be at least double the price for the same in a restaurant and probably half as delish. The service is great and you get a complimentary 6 oz. Chai. I’D HIGHLYRECOMMENDTHESAMOSACHAAT. SERIOUSLY. PARTYINTHEMOUTH, YOUWON’T BEDISAPPOINTED! We will be back soon!

Flavorful food. Quantity is decent. Simple Indian chai. Pani puri’s puri felt old when I ate it last time. Thali for $ 6 is very filling. Cannot imagine such a small place has good stuff. But don’t have high expectations! Flavor of the food compensates for all that you think is missing.

Amazing flavor, and the 6-course meal was a tremendous value. The proprietors were friendly and have put together a very welcoming and delicious food truck.

As a vegetarian, this place is my favorite indian food in PDX. The special is always great, but my go to is the Malai Kofta.

The best little Indian food cart in the city. The Navaratan Korma tastes like heaven. All vegetarian specialties and super tasty. Coming from a meatatarian that is something special.

The Vegan Meal here is not only incredible on the dollar-to-calorie ratio, but the best Indian food I’ve had in portland proper(Beaverton is another story, haha). Run by an amazing + fierce older lady, this cart has filled me up and left me amazingly satisfied time and time again. Get extra naan! It’s incredible :)

Really good Indian food for vegetarians, in a truck parked in downtown Portland. I had shahi paneer, my wife matar paneer. Both were outstanding, and the two tastes were very different. We shared an order of naan, which was soft, fresh, and tasty. Portions are large, too big for us to finish. The down side of a food truck is that there are few options for sitting nearby, but this place has several folding chairs and two counters. They post that they accept credit cards, but said their phone line was out of order the day we were there, so we paid cash.

I really like this place. I used to go when I was in high school just up the block, and I still go from time to time when I want some nostalgia. I don’t like the 6 course vegan lunch — it has too many peas and potatoes(my least favorite vegetables). I get the navratan korma(vegetable korma), palak paneer, malai kofta, and samosas chaat. I don’t think the samosas are terribly authentic, but they’re so good. Sour and cool and spicy with chunks of potatoes. Be careful carrying it back to your car/apartment: The containers are not that secure and filled to the brim with liquids. I’ve spilled on myself or gotten food on the counter just about every time I go there.

Just like most of the other reviewers, my go-to item is the $ 6, 6 course meal. You get #15 Navratan Korma(A traditional merging of nine kinds of vegetables prepared with raisins & nuts in a creamy sauce – my favorite!), #18 Dal Tarka(Dark lentils slow cooked and flavored with our special blend of spices), #11 Channa Masala(Tender garbanzo beans prepared in a sauce of onions, garlic, ginger and spices), and #20 Aloo Saag(Spinach & potato cooked with mild spices) along with basmati rice and a ginormous piece of naan. Now, I’ll admit I’m no expert on Indian food, but after I tried this cart, I think I’ve been back there once or twice a week for the past two months. The naan dipped in Navratan Korma is what got me hooked. It’s amazing. And the people who work here are really nice. I definitely recommend calling ahead if you can, unless you have a little bit of extra time and patience. No need to be unnecessarily hangry.

The reviews and photos on Unilocal are true: You get a ridiculous amount of food for the price. And the food is pretty good. I paid $ 7 for malai kofta, which costs at least $ 10 anywhere else I’ve ever been, but usually $ 11. And it wasn’t a small portion, there were five vegetable balls in there, and plenty of gravy and rice. Many places give you like two or three balls. Overall, the flavor was pretty good. I asked for medium spice and it was definitely very mild, unless they messed up. If you like some heat, maybe go straight to the spiciest. If I go back, I will ask for the rice to be boxed separately — they put the gravy and everything right over a bed of rice. The reason I came, however, is samosa chaat. I *love* samosa chaat and there is a big gap in the market here in Portland for this particular dish. Well, it was great to finally get some samosa chaat in Portland, but I cannot say it was one of the better renditions I’ve had. It was immediately a watery puddle the second she handed it to me. I’d like to see it hold up a bit better — I think the yoghurt could stand to be a bit thicker and a bit colder to maintain its texture. They could also wait to put the yoghurt on it until the entire order is ready. Additionally, I also think the dish was either missing tamarind chutney or there just wasn’t enough — I tasted all the other components. Overall, it was decent, but it didn’t have everything working in harmony the way I’d like. A good samosa chaat is both saucy and crunchy, but savory and sweet, whilst spicy and cool. This version did not check all the boxes. I am willing to go back and try again and adjust my rating. Garlic naan was fine. Not the greatest naan of my life in terms of the texture, but good size and the garlic has a good flavor. My wait time was pretty long, to be honest, but it was also very busy. There were a bunch of people in front of me, even though I thought randomly going at 2:30pm on a Saturday wouldn’t be a popular time. I probably waited at least 15 minutes. The woman handling all the orders was very nice and apologized for the delay. I love affordable food, but I guess I’d be willing to just pay more for it to be a little higher quality. That might mean there is still a longer wait time if you don’t order ahead, which is fine. I will try it again because samosa chaat is my favorite food and hopefully it will hit the mark better. Still, this is a worthy stop for Indian food.

About the customer experience(not the food)… I’ve been here twice, the week of Jan 19th, during business hours and not on a holiday. They were closed both times. I’d suggest calling ahead, unless you know something I don’t.

Doesn’t get cheaper than this. What could be better than more food than you know what to do with for just a few bucks? Umm… yeah. This stuff is made to be delicious and filling. The flavors vary from one entrée/curry dish to the next, so it’s fun to try the sampler. It’s already vegetarian, but you can ask for it to be vegan. Everyone wants the sampler– why not? Otherwise you only get one item with rice. Be careful though, the food is so darned good you may inhale it all and possibly regret it later. That is if being food comatosed and unable to move is something to regret after a cheap, delicious meal. Note: they are a food truck. When they’re out of something, they’re out. Sometimes this means closing early if the food they’ve prepared in advance is all gone! Go earlier, rather than later, if you want the best selection. Flavorful and satisfying, especially the sauces. However, if you like to eat whole pieces of freshly cooked fresh vegetables, this will be an immeasurable disappointment. Oh, and if you’re calorie counting– be careful to minimize how much you eat here.

Went here yesterday for lunch during a day out in Portland. Was thinking of going somewhere indoors, but ended up here somehow on a dubious 30 F degree day. It was snowing out and surprised to find a couple ordering their lunch. Surprised that the food trucks were open. They took theirs to go, but I had mine right there on a snow/ice/sleet covered bench with snow falling into my 6 dollar 6 course vegan meal. I mean you only live once and it comes vegan w/Naan which is great. They even toss in soy chai, but opted not to have it. As I ate my lunch a woman from Alaska was concerned if I was cold, but said no I’m from CO. The line ended up being 8 people deep, so was obviously a popular place even on cold days. My glove less hand was quite cold turning a bit red from the cold, but warmed up latter. I would recommend here for those not taking theirs away wishing to eat outdoors to do so on a warmer day. I’ll make it a point to return and heed my advice when the mercury rises. I have spent 3 years abroad in India, so this wasn’t a thali meal served on a round silver plate or banana leaf. Yet for the price it is a filling authentic and tasty meal. I believe the owners are Sikh and the food is probably North Indian Punjabi style. This is a food truck in Portland and Bombaby Chaat House does it right. I would say up there with the best of the food truck cuisine in a city known for it’s amazing food truck culture. Props for making authentic Indian food affordable. Sat Nam!
