My favorite spot for any and all soccer games! While Portland is a huge Timbers city and you can go in to any bar to catch a match, I’ve found it difficult to find a spot to watch USWNT games(especially the friendly matches) — but now Bazi is my place! Great selection of Belgian beers(if you don’t like Belgian beers, you might want to go elsewhere, as this is a Belgian gastropub after all). Amazing food — I had the mac n cheese which was a pretty mixture of cheeses without being watery or overwhelmingly thick. They couches and big leather chairs in front of the big screen are my favorite on the slower nights. On big match days, they set the interior up like stadium seating to accommodate as many people as possible in a small area. Helpful, friendly staff also is a huge bonus. I know anytime I go in, slow night or busy night, I will be treated as quickly as possible.

Very friendly, easy going staff. Fantastic Trappist and Belgian-style beers. Love the old jazzy music selection. Only thing I couldn’t finish was the deep fried kale chips. Too fried, oily and salty. Overall this place is a gem. I’ll definitely come back when I’m in town.

My wife and I absolutely love this place! Our favorite Belgian beers live here. The food is great as well. The location and atmosphere is right up our alley. Friendly service and really helpful if you are not familiar with Belgian beer. Cheers!

**so sad that I need to update this review… Was excited to come in again with a friend for some lunch on a sunny weekend. When my food came, I found two baby slugs in my kale dish(a dish I had been fond of on my last visit)! I was pretty horrified, and I’m sure the baby slugs were equally horrified that they were almost eaten. I skipped mentioning it to any of the staff, because really, what could they do at that point after I’d lost my appetite? I’m sure they would have offered to bring me something else, but I didn’t want to eat there at all after this incident. I didn’t want an apology either… I simply needed not to find baby slugs in my food!

still a fan — FOOD is still awesome — the«BELGIAN» beer selection was NOT there upon this visit. THATSUCKED! But I still hold out hope that when I return again, there will be better offerings in that dept.

Great selection of Belgian beer! I don’t think I can say that enough. I have to say I didn’t try the food so my rating doesn’t currently take that into account, and being near Carte Blanche, I don’t know if I will ever try their food. I will be back, their drinks are great!

I love that this place has at least 15 Belgian beers on tap, and that you can order tasters and growlers! Really friendly bartenders who are happy to answer questions, and never once did I feel like anyone was snooty. Ordered a chicken and waffle special once and it was fantastic(with a substantial waffle with sugar chunks, though not quite a liege waffle and an awesome mustard maple sauce).

I have been going to this bar since it opened, and I have to say up front I stopped for about a year, when they were not closing at a consistent time. I walk or ride my bike and they were closing early, which is really an inconvenience… Three years later: The owner are the same, but the management has improved and as of late, they are staying open to the advertised times and are providing great service. I can now give this bar a good solid two thumbs up. The beer selection is awesome, and the staff is knowledgeable. Go and have a Hogarden for me!

Maybe it was just the burger… or maybe not. We came here for an early dinner/happy hour for the dine out for life. We had heard good things. Let’s start with the highs. Fries are awesome with their accompanying sauces. The big fries actually got a little better as they cooled for a bit on the table. The brussels sprouts were quite good, but it’s becoming apparent that they are getting to the end of their season. I really liked the spinach dip croquettes, but they are super heavy and I don’t think I could finish a whole one. It’s not every day you can get kale chips. These things got literally inhaled in seconds. Now for the lows. I had big hopes for the chutney burger. All the toppings sounded grand, and I had picked out what I was going to eat before I even left the house. I asked for the medium and the burger was offensively overcooked and underseasoned. Sadly no amount of awesome toppings were going to save this thing. My wife got the veggie risotto. It was cooked well, but there was something in it giving the most offensive of odors. I don’t know if it was the greens or what. It tasted fine, but smelled awful. One of my biggest annoyances with the service industry are servers who attempt to memorize your order. Especially to the point where they are obviously struggling and said server forgets items and leaves the table prematurely in an attempt to retain all the items, and then comes back to verify items. I’m just a dumb white collar suburbanite who will never understand. Perhaps if the burger was better I would have had a different attitude about my experience. But oh well… I doubt I’ll be back.

Wow… Right in my neighborhood. I’m excited… Upon entering … nice location, outdoor seating in a great neighborhood … trees, squirrels etc… Wow… great belgian list … Both draft and bottle… decent pour… fairly decent overall service… And, fatty but tasty pork belly skewers(mind you its lard if you like that teriyaki style, I think great with beer)… Great chance to read a book solo I hoped, and sip… But, then you ask why the minus 2 stars…? What gives man? I tell you, this place screams for decent low fi or alt music but not the horribly loud and over played over produced hip hop rap they play. —– so sad, this would have been the place to come back to but their music(when sports arn’t on the tv) is the worst. Think I’ll come back and give them a second chance during a timbers game.

The 4 star review here is just because the bar was understaffed for 10pm on a Thursday night. Kudos to the bartender/waiter extraordinaire who ran the whole show by himself and was really accommodating with the happy hour food recommendations. The Brussels sprouts were superb. Like literally they were perfection. Although the plate was pretty large, we devoured them within 2 minutes. My friend and I also ordered the fries with the curry mayo dipping sauce, and while fries were slightly soggy, the curry sauce was incredibly unique and very tasty. In the summer, I could definitely see how this place would be really happening, the half indoor/outdoor space was really inviting and unique. Definitely a go-backer!

Amazing beer list, with constantly changing taps. The food is alright the chickpeas were yummy, but the kale chips were greasy and salty. Have never gotten an entrée there, because we tend to only go for happy hour. Good energy, great staff, really nice place to sit back and have a beer.

We had a couple of hours to kill before our flight home and found this great place. We had a couple of beers – Delirium Nocturnum and a Woodland Trees IPA – each was very good, and we had the kale salad and pork belly skewers. Both dishes were fantastic. We were able to sit outside, which was great, and the couple next to us was, as with everyone we met in the Pacific Northwest, incredibly warm and friendly. We hit it during happy hour, which was a bonus for us, though we would’ve gladly stayed here regardless.

Great happy hour, good food, and excellent service. Probably my favorite place to watch a game in southeast Portland since they have a comfortable set up around the big screen. If you are interested in watching multiple games(like Sunday morning football), then Mulligans is a better bet since they have more than 2 TVs. For overall value though, Bazi is tough to beat.

Well, the food and beer are still good… but the service… whoa. There were a total of 12 people in the bar and it’s not like anyone was ordering 7 course dinners that needed a ton of attention. We sat at the bar and when we asked the bartender/server questions about the menu, she mumbled answers and even looked away as she spoke so we couldn’t hear her. We ordered food as well as a 750 ml bottle of beer… which she deposited in front of us with 2 glasses and walked away without pouring it. I’ve ordered single beers and had servers pour or at least offer to pour, so it was odd that a beer in the size of a wine bottle didn’t get the same service. The mediocre service continued, but the capper was when she asked if she could get us anything and we said water… she pointed us to a bucket and glasses setup across the room and told us to help ourselves. In a busy bar with a lot of customers, I can see the point of this… but she had nothing else to do… we watched her do nothing as my friend got up and got us water.

I stopped in recently with my sister and enjoyed the patio on one of our rare sunny days. It was happy hour and I didn’t see any other patrons so the fact that the bartender what the only person I saw in the front of house was not an issue. We both ordered whiskey gingers and burgers. We may be polar opposite in many respects but whiskey and burgers are two things we will never disagree on. Service was decent, food was decent. I didn’t experience enough of the place to rave about it, but I left happy and would definitely return.

It’s been less than a month since I was lucky enough to spend a couple of days in Brussels, and I had a hankering for some good, funky Belgian beer and delicious fries. After finding Bazi online, I invited some friends to meet me there for happy hour. It was not a great choice. What went wrong? We’ll start with the food. The fries bore no resemblance to the delicious, double-fried, thick chunks of potato I picked up on the street in Brussels. These were shoestring fries, a bit too salty, with bland ketchup instead of spicy Brazil or Andalouse sauce. Also too salty was the Mac & Cheese, which my friends couldn’t even finish. The burger was meh. And I ordered a Croque Monsieur, which was essentially a ham-and-cheese sandwich, instead of the cheese-slathered Croque Monsieur I relied on for a week in France and Belgium. Then there’s the beer. Summer is a great time for Gueuze, the chewy, sour, refreshing descendent of lambics that we don’t see enough in the states. Well, Bazi had one Gueuze available, in a bottle — oh wait, that was sold out. Not only that, but the waitress corrected my pronunciation of Gueuze, which is always a winning strategy for customer relations. Other beers were good, but pricey. It was as if someone decided to start a Belgian restaurant without having ever actually visited Belgium. Which probably would have been fine, had I not just visited myself and walked in with expectations that were way, way above this. I don’t think my expectations were unreachable… I just don’t think Bazi should be saying they’re trying to be something they’re not. This is a fine place for happy hour. It bears little resemblance to an actual Belgian bar.

Bazi is one of those pubs that is absolutely perfect for the World Cup. I caught the US vs. Portugal game a few weeks back, and it was wall-to-wall people. So yeah, it was crowded, but the atmosphere was infectious. Besides, the beers on draught are AMAZING. I have a special place in my beer-loving heart for Kwak, a Belgian trappist ale that is pure happiness in a pint. It’s served in the most ridiculous of glasses, without a base and held up by a wooden platform, as if it’s a special beer space shuttle. The food isn’t too shabby, either. I only sampled the stringy-thin fries with house aioli, but all the burgers whizzing by during the game smelled so good I was practically salivating by the time the game ended. tldr; Great on game day. Get Belgian beers. Eat all the food. :-)

Excellent. I love Belgian beer. This is the place to go. Wonderful policy: they have small samples for two or three dollars. That’s great. I tried four. My hamburger was very good. The atmosphere was fun, it’s a fun neighborhood. Service was excellent. I will go again ! Great selection of Belgian beers, and that’s worth the whole trip.

I’ve driven/walked/biked by Bazi a few times, and finally had a chance to check this place out. Sunny day = patio dining/drinking Checked Bazi out for happy hour, and I love this place. Our waitress was informative and friendly. Great service. Ordered a couple of beers, one was the Bosteels Kwak that came in a fun glass. I ordered the forbidden fruit Saison which was a perfect complement to the beautiful weather. Fruity and crisp. The kale chips were crispy with the right amount of salt. The burger was delicious as well, says my companion. The frites and the ailoli were fresh tasting and solid! Definitely not a cheap HH, but quality over quantity!
